The OverAchiever: Completing Fool for Love [Updatedx3]

Every week The OverAchiever gives advice, walkthroughs and guides on completing your latest Achievement obsession. This week we offer a second installment out of unconditional love.
This year's short-lived Valentine's event, Love is in the Air, comes with its own meta-achievement, A Fool For Love (A/H). Though this event may not be your idea of a good time since it's mostly RP related, it's still necessary if you are trying to complete What A Long Strange Trip It's Been (A/H) for a Violet proto-drake. You only have five days to complete the meta-achievement starting tomorrow, so let's get to it.
The Basics
Head to an Innkeeper in any capital city with a heart over his head and purchase Love Tokens as well as a Perfume Bottle if you want to attract male NPCs or a Cologne Bottle if you want to attract female NPCs. Douse yourself with the stink water and talk to the Guard NPCs in the city with hearts over their head. Give them a Love Token and they may give you a Pledge of Adoration or a Gift of Adoration (from non-guards) along with the Adored debuff which will prevent you from doing this again for another hour.
NOTE: The Stormwind Harbor guards are bugged currently so don't waste your time with them.
UPDATE:
UPDATEx2:
UPDATEx3: Red Bouquet's drop from the same mobs as the Black Bouquet.
The Pledge or Gift can contain any of the following:
- Bag of Candies
- Box of Chocolates
- Guard's Card for that city
- Handful of Rose Petals
- Love Fool
- Love Rocket
- Lovely Black Dress
- Pledge of Loyalty for that city
- Romantic Picnic Basket
- Silver Shafted Arrow
- Truesilver Shafted Arrow
- Unbestowed Friendship Bracelet
If you have the Adored debuff, you can still talk to guards and will receive a Pledge of Friendship or if you talk to a mercahnt you will get a Gift of Friendship. The Pledge only has the Guard's Card or the city's Pledge of Loyalty and the Gift just has a city specific trade item. This can be done as often as you like and it does not face the 1 hour cooldown associated with the Adored buff. However, the items you receive will not help you towards the achievement. They are used for the non-achievement activities.
Due to the Adored debuff, you can only get one Pledge or Gift an hour for the 5 days of the event.
The Achievements
Many of these require items that you get from the Pledges/Gifts of Adoration so get to passing out Love Tokens as soon as possible and keep at it as soon as your Adored buff wears off.
Be Mine! - Use the Bag of Candies to create specific messages.
You get 10 charges for every Bag of Candies you receive, so it shouldn't be too hard to get all 8 combinations listed. But as with many of these achievements, it's advisable to start early since it's a short event and you are limited to one new Pledge/Gift an hour. Yes, the drop rate is low. Yes Blizzard hotfixed it to increase it. Yes, it's still frustrating to lose out on this meta-achievement due to the RNG.
Heartmender - Use 20 Unbestowed Friendship Bracelets.
There will be plenty of Heartbroken players in the cities looking to get the debuff removed so they can get their next Pledge. Use these freely and with abandon. You can always stand in front of the banks at the capital cities and /shout that you are mending hearts and the players will come to you.
Fistful of Love - Use a Handful of Rose petals on a number of different race/class combinations.
I hated being the target of this at Winter's Veil on my Night Elf Druid. Now it's your turn to get pelted out of nowhere! For finding the opposing faction targets I recommend Dalaran, especially the banks. You can get extra petals from the City Gift Collections of from the rose bouquets (see rose achievement below.) If you are missing the last opposing faction target and are running out of time, I recommend having a friend or guildmate creating that target and meeting you in their starting zone.
Flirt with Disaster (A) - Get smashed, put on perfume, throw a handful of rose petals at Sraaz and kiss him.
Sraaz is the gnome pie seller who wanders around the Great Forge in the middle of Ironforge.
Flirt with Disaster (H) - Get smashed, put on perfume, throw a handful of rose petals at Jeremiah Payson and kiss him.
Jeremiah Payson is the cockroach vendor in the Undercity. In this case, you might want to get *really* smashed.
I Pitied The Fool - Pity the Love Fool in the locations specified.
This one is going to be the roadblock for many players. What you need to do is drop your Love Fool targetting dummy in each one of the places listed below, target it, then type /pity. Simple right? Check out the locations involved:
- Wintergrasp
- Arathi Basin Blacksmith
- Naxxramas
- Battle Ring of Gurubashi Arena
- The Culling of Stratholme
CoT: Strat has a minumum level threshold of 75 to let you in.
Lonely? - Join someone in Dalaran at their Romantic Picnic during the Love is in the Air celebration.
Either use the Romantic Picnic you received from Pledges/Gifts and wait for someone to join you or find someone who has already laid their blanket out and right click on their Picnic Basket to get the buff. A little wine and a few kind words never hurts either, gentlemen.
My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose - Obtain a Bouquet of Red or Ebon Roses during the Love is in the Air celebration.
Finally, we get to some fightin'! The Bouquet of Red Roses drops from:
- Princess Moira Bronzebeard in Blackrock Depths (55 Elite)
- Illyana Ravenoak in Dire Maul West (60 Elite)
- Archivist Galford in Stratholme (60 Elite)
- Lorekeeper Polkelt in Scholomance (60 Elite)
UPDATEx2: A WoW World Designer responded today saying The Bouquet of Red Roses no longer drops and is only part of the Achievement for those who have it in the bank from previous years.
UPDATEx3: Red Roses drop from any mob that drops the Ebon Roses::
- Maiden of Grief in the Halls of Stone
- Prince Keleseth in Utgarde Keep
- Prince Taldaram in Ahn'kahet: The Old Kingdom.
Nearest and Dearest - Complete the Love is in the Air storyline quest beginning with the Dangerous Love quest.
For Alliance, the Dangerous Love quest starts with Artisan Mottar in Stormwind. The Horde version of Dangerous Love starts with Fenstad Argyle in The Undercity. When you are finished with the 6 quest chain, make sure to click on the Cauldron to get your outfit and Achievement credit.
Nation of Adoration (A/H) - Obtain a Gift of Adoration from each of your three capital cities.
Give a Love Token to a city NPC with a heart over their head that isn't a guard when you are not Adored. Try the Mage portal trainers or the wandering vendors. I recommend getting this done on Wednesday so you can use the Lunar Festival invitation to teleport between cities easily. You know, if you aren't a mage.
Shafted! - Shoot 10 players with the Silver Shafted Arrow.
You'll get these from your Pledges/Gifts boxes. Just target any player character who doesn't have a non-combat pet out. You can also get the arrows from City Gift Collection turn in.
Sweet Tooth - Sample four of the candies listed.
All of these will appear in Pledge/Gift boxes at some point. Nom nom nom. Also from City Gift Collection.
The Rocket's Pink Glare - Shoot off 10 Love Rockets in 20 seconds or less.
Try to keep the obvious jokes out of Vent. Really. No, really. Sigh.
That's it for the meta-Achievement. There are two more Achievements associated with the holiday that are stand alone and not require to complete Fool For Love. They are both based on getting a rare reward in your Pledges and/or Gifts:
Lovely Luck is On Your Side - Open a Gift of Adoration and receive a Lovely Black Dress.
For those special nights out on the town.
Perma-Peddle - Obtain a permanent Peddlefeet pet by procuring a Truesilver Shafted Arrow.
Use the arrow to summon Peddlefeet, a rare non-combat pet. Note: Can no longer be farmed on alts.
Next week on The OverAchiever: Non-combat pet collection Achievements!

I'm glad the dress and Perma-peddle achivements aren't needed because most likely I won't be on till the weekend. Though the candy one mmay be hard for me to get.
Mep Feb 10th 2009 4:42PM
The candy one can be completed after the event ends :) so as long as you get lucky, with your pulls from the bag, you can still get it even when it's done.

Wowhead comments from today seem to agree that the bosses listed as dropping the Red Roses are not dropping them. Any idea if this is true and if so, are they dropping by other bosses now?
Biller Feb 12th 2009 11:05AM
I got a bouquet of red roses off the 1st boss in Utgarde Keep (normal mode) just yesterday, so I do know it drops. We farmed that boss 5 times so everyone in the group could get one. He dropped a bouquet of Ebon Roses too, so I believe it's just a random drop.

The love rocket one is impossible for me to get... have tried several different (seemingly) lag free locations and there is a definate pause between button press and launch. With the rockets being much harder to aquire than the lunar event ones, the timer should be longer not shorter. Playing a game should not be this big of a headache.
BTW, I was able to complete the lunar ones in the middle of Dalaran...
Blake Feb 10th 2009 4:09PM
Quite helpful, thanks. Not much has changed. Last year I got both the dress and Peddlefeet on my main, sent the dress to my bank alt though. So it's nice to have Perma-Peddle done.
I really wish they would make the meta achievements a bit tougher though (e.g. leave in Perma-Peddle).
Flairy Feb 10th 2009 4:23PM
Tougher I'm all for...
More luck-dependent I'm against.
In other words, I'm okay with raid bosses, time-intensive tasks, travel-intensive exploring/visiting, 450lvl profession tasks, cooking/fishing tasks, etc.
But I'm not okay with "Hey, go talk to this guy every single hour for 5 days straight and HOPE that you get a rare pet drop".
Blake Feb 10th 2009 4:27PM
Understandable. RNG does suck. But it just seems they're dumbing down the game every chance they can. Hopefully it'll return with some sort of toughness with Ulduar.
I hope everyone enjoys their Violet Drake.
Angus Feb 10th 2009 4:48PM
It isn't dumbing down the game to leave out a RNG nightmare.
Besides, go look at the Children's week stuff.
There's where it will weed out a lot of players.

This one alone will kill a lot of people's hopes for a dragon.
The Warsong Gulch one will be very hard with everybody scrambling to do it.
Assaulting bunkers/towers is not something everyone gets to do.
Some people are horrible flag runners because they just aren't durable/fast.
Eversor Feb 10th 2009 4:54PM
RNG =/= skill, therefore taking out RNG relied achievements from meta-achievements is not in any way "dumbing down".
AyaJulia Feb 10th 2009 5:00PM
I agree with Flairy. I was really angry that I wasn't able to complete the Hallow's End events, because I killed the horseman all but 2-3 days of the event and only saw two of those stupid level 1 cloth helms drop, neither of which I won. As it started looking more and more like I wasn't going to get it, I stopped doing the rest of the achievements attached to the event. Kept killing the horseman every day... but never a single drop. :\
RNG is a bitch, and I want the achievements to reflect my work, not my luck. I'm dreading this upcoming event because it looks very luck-centric. ._.;;
Blake Feb 10th 2009 5:03PM
Lrn2read.
I never equated RNG to skill. Nor did I equate RNG to dumbing down. As others have said, it'd be nice to have these achievements to be tougher to get and NOT rely on RNG to do so.
And just wait, if enough people qq on the forums, they'll remove the PvP part from the Children's Week meta-achievement.
Hoggersbud Feb 10th 2009 5:20PM
You did, however, say you wanted things to be tougher, specifically in regards to keeping a purely random chance thing like Peddlefeet in the meta-achievement. Later you did rail about them dumbing down the game every chance they get without giving any further examples.
Surely you can understand how some people might be reading that?
Ice Princess Feb 10th 2009 6:49PM
What the heck is this RNG business?
Dave Feb 10th 2009 8:02PM
RNG = random number generator.
It's the thing you curse when you don't win a roll.
And despite what you read as percentages on wowhead, every "roll" is an independent calculation, therefore something with a %2 drop rate has a %2 chance each time you get a bag that may contain the item inside. It's not any sort of a cumulative thing (ie: %2 doesn't mean that if you do it 50 times you're guaranteed of something, you could literally try forever and ever at that %2 chance each time and never get something.
Statistically you'll probably get it at some point unless you're horribly unlucky, but your percentage chance never goes up the more you do it.
There's some silly math involved but usually something with a %2 drop rate will show up anywhere within 300 attempts most of the time but you could still be hanging on at 1000 attempts if you just get unlucky. Most people's problems with random numbers are a result of a small sample size.

"And just wait, if enough people qq on the forums, they'll remove the PvP part from the Children's Week meta-achievement."
*Good* I'm highly against pvp being required for anything. I haven't been in a battleground since way back when I needed to get my merciless swords, and I really don't want to have to do it again.

Titles and a vanity mount. That's what these events provide. How challenging do you want them to be, and why are you trying to restrict access to such an inconsequential prize?
QQInsider Feb 11th 2009 9:02PM
@Balius:
Because restricted access = more e-peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen.
It's the same reason people cried when they made epics easier to obtain. Some people only play this game because having a bunch of pixels that others don't makes them feel better than everyone else.
Jenna Feb 10th 2009 4:11PM
The Pity the Fool achievement does not specifically state "during Love is in the Air event" like others do...does that mean you can level to 75 and do it at a later time or how long does the love fool target dummy last in your inventory? Might be an option...
