Healers know you're dying. Don't yell.

She's actually polite enough not to tell her fellow raid members not to ask for heals. And nice enough not to reveal that if you really put off a healer, you won't get healed at all. I remember back in the days of Molten Core where we had this inept Hunter who refused to Feign Death because it "dropped his DPS". That same Hunter always asked for heals even though he wasn't supposed to be taking much damage sitting in the back of the raid, firing from afar. It got to the point where, on the healers' chat channel, we all agreed not to heal him. Sure enough, in the next pull, he steals aggro, refused to Feign Death, and dies. With a little help -- or lack of it.
That's the truth about healing, for the most part. Healers are already on their toes watching everybody's lives. That's their role. You don't often hear yelling at DPS to, well, DPS, do you? They're expected to DPS. Even when they fall below a certain DPS threshold, you won't hear the raid leader chew them out. Most of the time, at least. Ambrosyne points out that pretty much all she sees are feet. That's right, feet. Because healers play a little mini-game watching Grid and often miss out on the action. If you're dying, they know it. So as a public service announcement, we're reminding all of you not to yell at your healers. It just might mean you'll get healed.

Awesome !
I always find it amazing when someone calls over Vent or in Chat... "HEAL ME!!!!"
We know you need heals... no need to ask or clutter up comms to tell us

I pugged herioc CoT the other night and on Mal'Ganis, the ret paladin was yellling for heals. The tank said, "dude, he's alseep give him a second."
The ret then replied (it wasabout 4am), "he shouldn't have offered to heal if he was tired," and the tank told him, "no dumb fjuck, Mal'Ganis put him to sleep."
By then I was awake and the ret apologized after we downed him. Now that I have a real rez, I don't mind letting a bossy dps take some durability damage for being arrogant.

What's worse is a melee DPSer in our guild who had a macro that spammed "My health is at X%!!! HEAL ME!!!" every second in pchat until someone healed him or he died. Our GM is a healer and after a week or so of running with that, told him to either get rid of it or face a /gkick.

@Marc Sadowski,
You know it! The wowinsider show inspired me. Everything sounds classier with fj!

What's even more amazing is when folks think you somehow know who "me" is over voice comms. Same thing with "I", as in, "I need a Kings rebuff". Sometimes you can tell, most times you can't.
Pro tip: "Me" and "I" are not character names. If you want something in a hurry, talk in the third person.

I had that sometimes in WG. I was busy keeping my raid alive when a random stranger comes and whisper "HEAL ME".
I must say that even with Grid or HealBot, I'd never know he needs healing 'cause he was not in my raid.
But the fact that he did that TWICE (in two different WG battles) actually pissed me off.

The thing is... if you’re a good healer I can understand taking offense to something like this because it gets annoying pretty quickly... especially if you know your class and do a good job. No one wants to hear complains like that. However, there’s also the other side of the scale where healers have to be yelled at and reminded to heal because they a. are messing up b. new and are still learning c. getting to know their class (and trust me this happens even AT 80.)
If you’re doing your job right, it will get noticed. If you’re not, then there’s a reason for the reminders. There are still healers who WILL forget to keep the main tank topped up when pulling mobs or tanking the main boss and they need reminders to that. Of course some people like being jerks and take it too far, but on the whole... if you’re running with a good group, they will notice if you’re doing a good job.

Even as a tank, I never find myself in a position where it's justified to yell at a healer.
When I do communicate important information for the safety of the raid, it often involves "Hay guise, I'm taunting Gluth and hitting IBF lulz" or some variation to it.
As DPS, I shouldn't take damage bad enough to demand a heal. And as a tank, I don't think I'm saying anything but the obvious.
Nick S Feb 11th 2009 1:34PM
There are a couple cases where I ask for heals...
"Tank DCed, I'm taunting, heal me." (Not for a while, but when I played a Warrior this was common enough.)
"Could someone toss Shiny (Hunter pet) a quick heal? Mend Pet is falling behind." (Sapphiron)
I don't *think* the healers mind too much.
As a (very new) healer, I don't think I've ever been particularly bothered by healing requests, but that's probably because groups have been pretty polite about it. If I do get one, it's usually a pre-pull "toss my pet a heal?"
Kaeona Feb 11th 2009 1:51PM
This is the kind of tank I like.
I have your health bar on my screen. I'm staring at it. I time my heals, I know the situation, but if something is going to change with your mitigation or the environment that I CAN'T SEE, that is information healers need to know.
If you miss getting out of the pound on Anub'rekhan that is information that will help.
If you just popped last stand or gave me shield wall through a particularly nasty phase, that is information that will get me ready for a spike.
If you are going to get hit with Sapphiron's blizzard and are going to spike a little, that is going to get the heal team ready to keep you standing before the next air phase.
For God's sake, if you're tanking the adds on Kel and get iceblocked that is information every healer in the raid needs to know ASAP.
Notice, all of this is information that is relevant and useful. It's not shrieking "I NEED HEALS!" at the top of your lungs like a school girl high on Pixie Sticks and crystal meth.

Aw not first :(
Anyways, I also hate the "ress me" after fights. Like a healer would forget to do that? :(
RogueJedi86 Feb 11th 2009 1:09PM
I make a habit not to ask for heals when DPSing, since the primary focus is keeping the tank alive. If I'm not being healed, there's obviously a good reason, so I just accept it. If I die, I die. No big deal, I just sit and watch, urging them on to clear the pull/boss so we can survive. They can rez me after(or I can run back). Just because I'm not DPSing doesn't mean the current pull can't be finished without me. People just need to relax.
Blake Feb 11th 2009 1:36PM
There are some situations that require calling out though. We lost one DPS while 8 manning Kel'Thuzad and he wiped us with 60k health left. If that DPS would have stayed up, it would have been an easy clear. So there are times when you can't afford to lose a DPS so calling out is helpful (note: he was standing in a void zone in the middle of all the adds and couldn't see it, so he couldn't be saved - but I'm just saying, sometimes calling it out can be the difference between a clear and a wipe).
Terhen Feb 11th 2009 1:48PM
Calling out if someone is in a void zone is helpfull, yes, as that person can react. But if someone needs heals, the last thing a healer wants is to hear someone say "X needs healing".
We don't see people as names, in a fight you are basicly just a health bar. I for one don't memorise where everyone is just so I can react to people calling out.
Gessilea Feb 11th 2009 1:49PM
@Blake: That's really one of the things that separates the average raid leaders from the good ones, though. It is not hard to set a UI to make it very clear if someone has died, and part of leading the raid is having an idea of who is necessary and who isn't in a fight, and making the call to burn a rez on them or not.
I'd love to see the "don't ask for healing" be one of the loading screen tips, seriously. I ran with a heroic CoS earlier in the week where a bad pull on my part (oops) led to our healer dying immediately on the last boss. Thankfully we had a dps druid toss me some heals and do a quick brez, but in the mean time our hunter died. The hunter then bitches in chat about not getting heals. Way to look like a dumbass, dude.
Alysandir Feb 11th 2009 3:09PM

It depends. On KT, the visual effect for ice block shows up before it registers on the heal bars, so I am perfectly content to hear "heal X - iceblocked" over Vent. Makes my reaction time that much quicker.
But yet, for the most, I don't tell folks how to DPS or Tank, ergo...
redstar Feb 11th 2009 9:31PM
I am surprise no one has mentioned it... but there is lag in vent..
by the time some one asks for healing..the heal is already on the way ...or done :)
