The Ice Stone has melted!
When The Love is in the Air started up this morning, a really curious bug cropped up that has even some Blizzard employees stumped. Every now and then, a server-wide emote (like the one you see when Eranikus is defeated in Moonglade) announces to the world that, 'The Ice Stone has melted!'Nobody really knows what it is, or why it's announcing that. As I mentioned, even a few Blizzard employees have no idea what it is, though they're looking into it. The only 'ice stone' that crops up when Googling or Wowwiki'ing around to find this thing is the objects from the Midsummer Festival that we interacted with last year. It's possible that the team responsible for world events was working on an update to the Midsummer Fire Festival and crossed some wires somewhere. After all, if any of the holidays need an urgent update, it would be that one.
Midsummer is one of the few holidays with an active, ongoing story. It's not just fireworks and presents, but there are sinister things happening! Remember, this past year it was the Twilight's Hammer trying to summon Ahune into our world (via Outland), and there was some Naga drama thrown into the mix. Maybe the storyline has moved on since last year? The Twilight's Hammer is all up on Yogg-Saron's junk now, as we see in Ahn'Kahet. Maybe they're going to try a new summoning, this time in Northrend? Maybe it's a world event sort of thing this time around, and that's why the Ice Stone melting is a server-wide announcement.
Or it's just a mundane bug and doesn't really mean anything at all.
Update: Yes, they are looking into it.

Yeah, I've seen this emoted a few times. Kinda funny. I wonder if I rush to Slave Pens I can catch Ahune at home.

If it happens enough, Uber Van Cleef spawns.

I'd rather have an elite Hogger decimating groups of 80's.

Is it... Arthas' heart that causes global warming that melts the Icecrown Glacier?! Shattered in little pieces by the Ashbringer, now the tiny little ash could be all over Icecrown, slowly rising the sea level all across Azeroth.

Its clearly a hint at the next expansion, "World of Warcraft: WATERWORLD"

Which also explains why Blizz is finally going to allow mounts to swim. Coincidence? I think not!

I think Children's Week could use some help. I see there are are some PvP achievements in there that have incited some debate on wowhead.
Etcee Feb 11th 2009 3:22PM
You really think of all the holidays, Midsummer is the one that needs updating?
They added Ahune, which was a huge improvement. I think Noblegarden or Children's Week could use some love.
Phil Feb 11th 2009 3:24PM
"The Ice Stone has melted." is the exact emote from when you summon Lord Ahune. Either they've bumped midsummer up to, well, February, or they managed to introduce a bug in 3.0.9.
Elmo Feb 11th 2009 3:27PM
I think if any holiday needs updates it's Winter Veil, Noblegarden and harvest festival.
and what of the disappeared Peons day?
