EDITED: Warlock makes Thunderfury
Reader Angie sent us a curious Armory profile of a Warlock who was able to obtain the classic legendary one-handed weapon Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker. Although no raiding guild in their right minds would've allowed such a travesty to happen no matter how much DKP the Warlock had back in the day, now in a time where Onyxia is visited every few days for some easy Gold, anything goes. This news comes on the heels of what is reputedly a world first Death Knight obtaining the legendary sword. Here's the kicker, though... the left and right Bindings of the Windseeker have class restrictions (revised to include Death Knights)... and Warlocks aren't among those eligible to start the quest chain. Mages and Warlocks are both casters who can equip swords, but this doesn't explain how the Warlock obtained the item. [EDIT: Whoops. Looks like I dropped the ball on this one. Daniel already wrote that even though the Bindings have class restrictions on the tooltip, they're actually usable by any class according to Blizzard.]
The Warlock's guild seems to be a rather accomplished one (the 'lock has The Immortal title), so there's a good chance that getting the weapon was a guild effort. It's quite possible that the Dormant Wind Kissed Blade that drops off Thunderaan was assigned by Master Looter to the Warlock, who then started the quest.
Then again, by today's standards, this once fearsome weapon pales in comparison to a Northrend green, even with a silly Mongoose enchant slapped on it. That Warlocks can casually pick up what was once the most desired one-hander (formerly Main Hand only) in the game without much uproar goes to show how times change. I mean, what's next? A legendary bow going to a Rogue? Wait...

I thought they had said they were removing all class restrictions for everything regarding Thunderfury. Perhaps that has happened and the tooltips haven't been updated?

Yes, in the post were the DK got the legendary sword, it was stated that although the class restriction is on the tooltip, it is not actually a restriction in game. There was a link to a blue post on the topic.

I wouldn't mind this for my lock. But it seems like alot of work for an item to use while afk in Iron Forge. PLUS a feat of strength!

Legendary bow to a rogue would be a nightmare!
Turik Feb 13th 2009 5:40PM
The quest lost its class restriction when Wrath came out. A mage has had one for months. Grats.

A death knight named Darthplague has the Ashes of Al'ar on the azgalor realm. Pisses me off to know i spent my BC career trying to get that mount and now a DK has it. RNG i hate you

Thunder of anger = thunderfury

Seriously, do other authors for this website actually read their colleagues work?
"But of course, there's a pretty big question that's simple enough: Death Knights can get Thunderfury? Yes, the bindings are now usable by all classes. German CM Rynundu confirmed this, and added that a future patch will get rid of the class restrictions on the tooltip."

Several months passed by since that rogue got Thoridal and it still makes me sick -_-

What does Ony have to with Thunderfury? You loot a binding off of Baron Geddon and Garr in Molten Core and do some quests to get it forged.
I usually hate these kind of correction comments, but please try to get it right.
PS - I really do love wowinsider. I read it 3 to 4 times a day.

He was just using Onyxia as an example of how easy pre-TBC content is these days. He didn't actually reference Onyxia with regard to Thunderfury, or its quest chain.
"...now in a time where Onyxia is visited every few days for some easy Gold, anything goes."

Hi, I'm at work and don't have time to look into it, but was wondering if it's possible to get two and duel weild them now they are one-handers?
Secondaidkit Feb 16th 2009 1:23PM
Looking at the shot above of the sword will tell you that it is unique, so no dual-wielding.
mirilene Feb 13th 2009 8:17PM
says right on the item tool tip in the article picture that its unique. So...no.

Translated as "Thunder of Anger" lol
Pity blizz said that they didn't want players to keep weps forever.
However how many players have legendary weps anyway? Wouldn't be too many, perhaps those who have legendary weps deserve to have them scale-able with their level. Given the effort (of many) to obtain them. Do some sort of uber quest to upgrade the item? So it's not too easy.
Just like the bind to account items.

Brings the literal meaning to the word 'ninja' now doesn't it? Despite the awarding circumstances wasn't anything related to ninja-ing.
evankimori Feb 16th 2009 8:54AM
But if you think about it: then nobody would replace the weapon. If it scaled with you and stats grew then everyone and their mother would start gunning for legendaries and never replace them.

What did you expect a caster to do, if the caster has enough gumption to go for a legendary? Atiesh, whose grind makes the other legendaries (esp the recebnt bow and glaive handouts) trivial by comparison, has now been completely removed from the game. So what was arguably the hardest legendary to acquire moved a small notch from "almost impossibel to get" to "gone".
At least he can equip a sword, priests will have to go for the tanking mace now (lol).

Whatever, everyone knows the only appropriate enchant for Thunderfury is Crusader. Pssh.

KK bads, the picture above says 54.0 dps... the sword ingame has 53.9 dps AND the bottom end dps is 44 not 43... this is obviously fake, know your legendaries
