Breakfast Topic: The quest that dinged you
I experienced something of a double whammy last night. I completed my 1,500th quest and I leveled to 80. I will always think of the night fondly, but I'm sure that I will also remember the particular quests I dinged on. For the 1,500 quests achievement it was a quest in the Love is in the Air chain out of Stormwind, Dangerous Love. I wasn't paying attention to my quest count so it was quite a surprise.A little later in the evening I found myself chasing chickens in Sholazar Basin and then surfing a crockolisk past mutated undead Scourge. This time I was very aware of how close I was to leveling to 80. I thought it was going to happen turning in Pitch's remains, but it turned out that the quest that pushed me over the top was taking down a sandworm for a tribe of overmuscled, underbrained wolverines. Not exactly the most heroic of tales, but at least it wasn't for resorting to cheetah form to successfully capture the errant poultry.
Do you remember the quest or kill that marked a major milestone for you in the game? Let's hear it!

1st. maybe. My 1st ding to 70 was handing down Marks of Sargeras at Shattrath!
kozom Feb 14th 2009 8:51AM

My paladin dinged 70 by completing Special Delivery to Shattrath.
The quest that involves delivering the Ata'mal crystal to A'dal.
Every member of my guild who was online showed up to witness it because it was such an epic way to hit level 70.

I dinged 70 standing on the statue in Stormwind :D
Used that quest where you summon the guy in Netherstorm with the staff to hand it in.
My flatmate dinged 80 from exploration XP from the last part of Icecrown, meaning she got achievements for level 80, exploring Icecrown, exploring Northrend, and World Explorer all at once.

I tend to remember the Zone/Quest hubs I was in rather than the quest itself. They seem to be steadily improving
- 60 in Western Plagues (not a fan of the zone)
- 70 in Netherstorm (a solid zone)
- 80 in Grizzly Hills (pretty good zone...yeah somehow I was only 4 zones in when I hit 80)
blkmasta55555 Feb 14th 2009 8:11AM
Hitting 80 in four zones isnt really that hard if you do the loremaster achievement for every zone you leveled past like I did(and suspect you probably did too).
Kolo Feb 14th 2009 8:14AM
Well it was one of my first quests in Grizzly actually. I did actually spend 1 whole level completing Kurenai rep.
150 quests to seeker title, bah!
brucimus Feb 14th 2009 8:08AM
why does it matter if you are first? You must be last at most other things
The Warrior Berserker Stance/Whirlwind Weapon questline is my favorite. Its available from your Warrior Trainer at level 30

I ding'd 70 on that tower in that ghost village in Netherstorm, one of those two-guys-outside's quest. I ding'd 80 by killing the mobs that lock that great spirit-god at Zul'Drak :P
But I'll never forget the day I finally got my Netherdrake. Omg, that was a week of daily suffering... but was worth it =D
Kolo Feb 14th 2009 8:16AM
It took you a week? That's not a lot of suffering. I seem to remember it taking a lot long, although I only bothered with the quests in the actual mine. It's one of the least enjoyable rep grinds in the game, so yeah it's a great moment. The ruthlessness of the egg hunts really put me off other players for a long time, and I think I took a break from the game afterwards lol.
Phun Feb 14th 2009 3:11PM
You should have tried the Skyguard grind. There's like 3 dailies in terrokar. I didn't even do the ones in Blade's Edge (I believe you needed to be neutral with Ogr'la and I never did their quests).
That took me forever.

Level 60. --> Stratholme, at the start.
Level 70. --> Netherstorm, at the tower.
Level 80. --> Sholazar Basin, jungle book.

i'll always remember how i dinged 10 the first time on my main. i was on a quest to kill an elite yeti in dun morough. of course, being a noob, i tried to solo it several times. then got frustrated at why i couldn't complete this quest.
a lvl 20 came around the corner, grouped with me, and killed it real quick. it gave me like 800xp which i thought was incredibly high!
Johnzim Feb 14th 2009 8:18AM
I always go for one of two types of Ding:
1) Pull about 3-4 more mobs than I can handle and Combat ding for a rocky-style comeback slaughterfest when I've slain the one that tips me over the top!
2) Map Discovery Ding
#2 is harder to do nowadays but still possible.
lanturlu Feb 14th 2009 8:32AM
I was putting polar bear to sleep with a dart blow gun, flipping them over to make sure they were female before bringing them back to the quest giver in Zul'Drak... epically memorable for level 80!
themightysven Feb 14th 2009 10:35AM
my main is 47 paladin, and I would say at least 1/3 of those dings came from exploration (especially picking up zones from 20-40
Maralach Feb 14th 2009 8:22AM
I remember very well that turning in the last part of the icecrown questchain where you try and save a paladin from the plague was the quest that caused my Death Knight to hit 80. Found it rather special, to be honest
Zee Feb 14th 2009 8:23AM
I dinged to 60 from a Call to Arms daily
Wikiwand Feb 14th 2009 8:33AM
My Guild downed both sapphiron and Kel'thuzad first time with only two attempts for each boss! I was there to get the heartwarming achievement "There because I care." (Ok, that achievement was my made up achievement...)
