Happy Valentine's Day from WoW Insider

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Ataraxaven and Alastriona of Azuremyst sent us this picture of their "soulbound" wedding rings -- just like the other wedding rings we've posted before, the couple says that "soulbound" works well for them. It has a nice gamer reference (they're both WoW players, obviously, and they've been playing together for two years now), and even people who've never picked up a BoP item at least get the meaning.
Very cool. Being as it is Valentine's Day today, don't forget to check out our guide to the Love Fool achievements, and be sure to get your sweetie something nice, ingame and/or out. Happy Valentine's Day to Ataraxaven and Alastriona and all of the lovers out there this weekend, hope you have a good one.

Beautiful rings and a wonderful inscription - one that you don't need to play to understand, and one that isn't just something that "comes from a computer game" (as someone mentioned last year).
Great idea, and I wish them both the best of luck!

Soooo tacky.

Wow, those rings are pretty. I love the celtic knot look. I think it's very tasteful.
I find it interesting how the girl's ring is platinum and her husband's is gold.
Mrph, pretty.

love for all

I like em, when me and my wife renew our vows this year, I am going to suggest the idea =)

I'm not sure you quite understand the meaning of "Very cool" if this article is anything to go by. Depressing, cringeworthy, embarrassing...all good words. Or if you wanted to keep it in a more gameresc tone you could have gone with /facepalm.

Would you care to explain? Are you saying playing wow is a shameful pastime that the couple should hide and never mention in public or something?
If they had referenced their shared love of say ice skating or some other activity on their rings (not sure what kind of pun you could get in there) would that be as cringeworthy?
BenMS Feb 14th 2009 6:57PM
It certainly would have been just as cringeworthy. My girlfriend doesn't play, but she recognises that it's good fun for me, and a hobby with enough thinking being put into it to exercise my mind - as well as being a good wy to hang out with my mates who live intersate/overseas.
Saying that WoW is any more/less shameful than any other hobby is pretty closeminded. Also, the fact that you're posting on a WoW blog page to express your distaste for WoW is a bit hypocritical.

Someone feeling a little lonely this V-day and lashing out at two people more than comfortable with themselves, their feelings, and their pastime?
Cheer up, bucko. I'm sure you'll find someone just as needlessly critical of total strangers as you. (Oh, not me though. . .I'm not interested in anyone right now. ;) )

It's not that it's WoW related, it's just tacky and it wouldn't be any less tacky if the subject was something more socialy acceptable but equally meaningless. For example getting married in matching football strips would be equally tasteless.
The fact that it's quite geeky does make it significantly more painful though. It kinda reminds me of a guy I once knew who proposed with a replica of "The One Ring" and if you don't know why that's wrong there is just no hope for you.
This all hinges on wether they were serious about it or not. I mean hopefully they were being ironic and just not taking it very seriously but I fear thats not the case. I mean it could be worse, they could be pretending to be vampires walking up the isle or wearing a Jedi robe and vowing on the Force but it's a slippery slope
Seasonedsalt Feb 15th 2009 1:21AM
Quick everybody! Back to pretending we're just like everyone else! Individual quirks are shameful, hadn't you heard?
I'm not sure quite what you find to be tasteless in this - it's something that makes the rings special to this couple. God forbid anyone get something different or personalized.
Andrew Feb 15th 2009 8:05AM
This is something extremely personal to the people involved.
TBH, fuck what you, me or anyone else thinks.
Cadychan Feb 14th 2009 10:21PM
I personally think those rings are gorgeous. Your wedding bands are going to be some of the most personal jewelery you own...why not make it something special? Besides, it's not like it's showing out to the public - why does anyone else have to know? If it's special to the couple, then that's all that matters.
I wish everyone a great day today, but remember - every day should be a celebration of love, not just this one Hallmark holiday. ^_~

Hey.... These 2 are former GM's of mine and its no surprise that these guys have these rings. They at the time I played with them) did pretty much everything in WoW together and are pretty awesome people too.
I don't have a problem with couple having that little something like soulbound on their rings. To the average person it would probably mean" our souls are bound together forever" and for us gamers, we know it as soulbound in a different sense :) Good on Alas and Atar for doing something like this and even sharing it :)
