Please give me something to grind
I realized the other night that I have quite possibly the strangest complaint about Wrath of the Lich King possible: There is nothing that you can just go grind if you want to do something mindless. By grind, I mean endless killing of mobs for some minor gain. One of the biggest reasons I play WoW is for social purposes. I play WoW with a lot of my friends, and sometimes when I log on I just want to use the game as glorified IRC while I stab things. This worked well in The Burning Crusade, because there were a lot of quests that required you to pay attention to what you're doing, but there were also a few reputation grinds that you could do just by murdering lots of mobs, which was great for those lazy days. Zaxxis Insignias, Warbeads, Marks of Sargeras, all of that stuff. If I didn't want to do anything complicated while I chatted away in guild chat, I could just round up a bunch of mobs and killify them, and I would still be making progress toward some game goal.
In Wrath, there's really not much of that to do besides Eternals. No reputations you can just grind, no cool drops, just boring ol' silver and motes. If I want to log on and talk, I pretty much just sit in Dalaran, because most of the available content forces you into tunnel vision. Yes, I am complaining that I need to pay attention to the game to play it. You didn't read that wrong.
As odd and as strange as it sounds, it's one of the biggest contributing factors to why I don't log on as much at night. I still love the game, I still love my guild, but I don't actually log on to interact with the guild anymore. With AIM, our guild forums, actual IRC channels, and all of that? If I want to talk to my guild, I don't use WoW to do it. WoW doesn't feel social to me right now, because if I want to play, then I don't get to talk. Isn't talking sort of important?
I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that don't have this issue at all, but is it so wrong to want to farm Vrykul Snot or some nonsense for a little reputation?

Fear not, Alex! You can (sort of) grind the Vrykul in Icecrown for bones that you can turn in to the Bone Witch (she's possessed a lady) to get rep with the Knights of the Ebon Blade.

10 rep for every 15 bones may be a little too grindy for me. ;)
I am a picky person, you know!
vazhkatsi Feb 15th 2009 2:21PM
yeah, at ten rep for fifteen. yip de frickin doo!

Farm Relics of Ulduar.
Grind-tastic stuff right there.

Farm the Bones in preparation for Ulduar, since those buff tokens you receive could be used there in raids.

"Farm the Bones in preparation for Ulduar, since those buff tokens you receive could be used there in raids."
They only work in Icecrown.

Has Alex considered B&D?
Obviously you enjoy being tortured at the mercy of the more sadistic variety of human being and thus this might be an avenue?
There are MANY things to grind and waste your time on. Acheivements, rep, mounts, pets, gold for stuff, blah blah. I am not sure this is not just a wierd nostalgic and irrational "mental burp". :)
burp!

Sorry, my comment above was meant to say "Icecrown Raids" not Ulduar, just spaced on which raid I was talking about for a sec =P

What I loved about Burning Crusade was that I could do mindless killing (grinded). A lot of times I just want to log on, social a bit in guild chat, put a movie in the corner of my screen, then mindlessly kill and loot till my bags are full. I can't really do this. I think this is one of the reasons I excelled and loved Diablo 2.

Try being a tailor. The only way to get cloth is to mindlessly grind mobs and hope you get a stack every hour or so.
Oh, and achievements are the biggest grind of all I suppose. If you love wasting your time getting points on your e-peen meter.

If you're only getting a stack of FW an hour, you need a new grinding-hole.

My wife is a tailor.
We found a spot. I hit pass on loot. We were there an hour talking on wow with friends while she just clikced on sparlies.
5 stacks of frostweave every 30 minutes was a pretty good rate.
Find the choke point where the fallen heroes (yellow) vanish. If you have an AE and a tanky sort of thing to help you can do this constantly for hours. Need to stop for mana or looting? Just stop doing AE and kill the ones you are on, then stop and do whatever.

I think that, although there is not nearly as much to grind in WotLK as in BC, I can still find things to get if I am on the edge of boredom.
If I am running low on Chilled Meat, I will grind some from the bears in Zul Drak, and get some leather while I'm at it. If I really have nothing to do, I might also grind out some Relics of Ulduar for a little Son of Hodir rep.
However, there definitly is not as many options as there used to be
Malkia Feb 15th 2009 2:29PM
Just how do you run low on Chilled meat? I'm a cook (Skin/LW professions) I do the dalaran dailies and I still have almost 100 chilled meat in my bank. My guildmate offered me a stack and I said NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
As to what I do when I chatter with people? Sort out my packrat tendencies and sell it on AH.
Thander Feb 15th 2009 3:39PM
One of the cooking dailies used to require 12 chilled meat. If you didn't do farming on a regular basis, you could quickly run out if the server chose that daily for many days in a row.
hagu Feb 16th 2009 7:06PM
@Malkia - I try to do cooking dailies on four toons. You only have to be 65 to train and except for the carrots don't have to leave dalaran. The KT rep, xp, and spices are nice.
So back when there were 12 meat quests, I could need 96 chilled meats in a unlucky two days.
JDM Feb 16th 2009 5:58AM
Yay! Love to see people farming Chilled Meat in a location that isn't where I go =3
rosencratz Feb 16th 2009 12:14PM
Yeah i used to have many, many stacks of chilled meat but when that certain daily hit my stocks would go down dramatically. These days it's not so bad I pretty much did one big farm after the patch and then just the occasional drops whilst doing somethng else keeps me topped off.
Seamus Feb 15th 2009 2:10PM
I can always go back and grind Kurenai rep. {shudder} I never got my mount from them.
Evelinda Feb 15th 2009 7:02PM
Ha... i love those guys. i have three chars exalted with mag'har and one with kurenai... grinding the bejeesus out of those ogres is basically essential for me :)
