Breakfast Topic: Did you accomplish what you wanted during the Love festival?
For better or worse, the Love is in the Air festival is over. Though there was much wringing of hands over the drop rate of the Bags of Candies, the location of Red Roses and enforced hour downtime between Pledge looting, many players managed to procure the title "Love Fool." Others are busily scribbling hate mail to Blizzard about how they are never going to get their Violet proto-drake because of this. (Pro tip: We're not Blizzard so please don't send it to us. Really. No, really.)I managed to snag my title early Sunday evening after finally getting my last candy heart and then shamelessly /shouting in front of the Ironforge Auction House to mend broken hearts. This is the first festival I've achieved a title though I can't tell you why I chose this one. Probably because there was no PvP involved. Which will take me out of the running for the Children's Week achievement that involves no less than 2 PvP activities.
Enough about me. Did you get what you wanted out this event?
| Yes - got everything done I wanted to | |
|---|---|
| Yes - but I wish I had more time | |
| No - I tried, but couldn't accomplish everything | |
| No - It was a disaster and should have never gone live | |
| I don't bother with such things as seasonal events when there is much killing to be done! |

I managed to get all my heart candy's after 4 bags. I got everything needed for the Love Fool achievement and managed to collect 5 Lovely Black Dresses and 4 Picnic Baskets.
I camped one NPC in IF all day long and went on my alt when I got my gift.

I got my title on my first gift saturday morning (well, the candy bag I got from it anyway), but I think my favorite part of the whole experience was getting to gank all those annoying people who've built up in my ignore list as they came to the gurubashi arena for their fool pitying. Me and a couple guildies actually camped a pair of players that had left a particularly sour taste in our mouths after they got kicked (leaving in the middle of a naxx run to go arena cause you got the last drop you need and then flaming the guild in trade while waiting for queues is a fast way to get kicked).

Um, I pitied the fool in Naxx because I was there and someone dropped one, and....yeah.
I mainly skipped this holiday as much as possible. It's my least favorite one, and I was holiday'd out from Winter's Veil and the Lunar Festival, and just couldn't deal with it. I will participate next year, though, unless by some miracle I already have 75 companion pets without that horrid goblin cupid.
I realize that Blizzard designed this holiday to encourage people to interact with each other, but as far as I can tell all it does is force you to beg strangers to help you, and vice versa. I doubt many people actually make new friends during this holiday. My main toons stayed out of cities as much as possible, but I did need to get some auctioneering done on banker alts, and oh, the whining, the shouting, the random people shooting me in the back so that I was stalked by a flying goblin (leading to me going to buy a snake for my banker alt so I could have a companion pet out...not sure if that helps, but it made me happier). All that begging, more than anything else, makes me HATE this holiday. That, and all the pink.
But I hear you about the pvp requirements for other holidays, too. For both Hallows End and Christmas, I got the holiday almost completely done, but still have all or most of the pvp stuff to do, and since pvp is not my thing, I'm not sure if/how I will complete them. I guess I have a vague idea that I'll try to get as many non-pvp requirements done for holidays as I can this year, and next year I'll ask guildies who ARE into pvp to help me out with those last few items.

Unfortunately, I can say that I did not receive a single bag of candy during the entire event (not for lack of trying). I did finish most of the required achievements, but having failed to get either the Truesilver arrow or any bags of candy by early last night, I more or less gave up in frustration.
Ah well.
MechChef Feb 16th 2009 8:53AM
Another person who was 1-candy short of the completed achievement signing in. /mad

# No - I tried, but couldn't accomplish everything
I actually (*Gasp*) managed to get the Love Fool title through sheer luck alone: I had "Be Mine!" and "My Love is Like A Red, Red Rose" still to do before I had to go to work for the most part on the Friday (And had very little time to run anything on the last Saturday for the Ebon Roses), but since business was slow I got sent home early on my night shift. Managed to get the last Heart Candy I needed for "Be Mine!", and managed to get a willing priest partner for Utgarde Keep. Pet tanked, I DPSed, and she did an excellent job healing, so we two-manned up until Prince twice for a bouquet each.
But... I actually really wanted Perma-Peddle. I'm somewhat of a minipet collector, and I still tried every hour I had available between then and the end of the event for the Truesilver Shafted Arrow, but it wouldn't drop. The only shred of disappointment in the event.

I got EVERYTHING, except one candy. I got 3 candy bags and they never made "I'll follow you all over Azeroth" Got the pet, and two dresses, but never that one candy.
Oh well, see you next year.

I've been focusing on getting the Holiday achievements on one toon(My Main) really. It seemed silly to me to go for it all on the toons that can't enter Heroics or other non attainable areas. So my Druid has the Elder, the Love Fool titles so far. Looking forward to the Childrens week title, already have Peanut and Willy on my druid so Egbert will be easy pies to get.
But yeah the drop rate on some things needed a teensy bit of improvement(Permapeddle) would have loved to get my hands on that flittering goblin. :)

Finally got it yesterday afternoon after getting lucky with the candies (took 2 bags) and the Troll Rogues. Troll Rogues were undoubtedly the most annoying aspect of the entire fiasco, so much so that I feel next year I should make one purely so people don't have to feel such RAGE over it.
RyuHakubi Feb 17th 2009 6:02PM
Now, the way it SHOULD have run, was the bag of candy achievement required you to get maybe any 4/8 or 6/8 of the candies, thus making the odds reasonable instead of two hard runs against the RNG. Having a crappy drop rate nested inside a crappy drop rate is painful. I had one bag of candy that gave me 3 of the same candies over and over and over again, a second that broadened that so, yes I had 6/8 of the candies, and then I never got another bag again on my main.
Absolutely frustrating.

Short holiday+ Fri and Sat being busy for those of us with REAL LIFE LOVES = very little time to actually log on and get all the stuff done!! :{
1st holiday achievement that I've not gotten the title and not pet either. Sure not feeling the love from Blizzard!!
And with all the PvP crap needed for the next holiday I'm guessing I'm not going to bother putting as much effort into the rest of the achievements since I have no chance of getting a mount now. Makes me wonder if Blizz will see a drop in the number of ppl trying to get them now?
Rohannor Feb 16th 2009 11:08AM
I agree. I wish the holiday was a couple days longer (or a couple achievements less) to give people who happen to have to do real life things (like go out of town Thurs. - Sat. in my case, plus work) sufficient time to get the achievement done. I'd personally like to see them all be at least 7-8 days.
Wolfblitzer Feb 16th 2009 9:05AM
Bag of Candy got me too. RNG inside an RNG makes for a poorly thought out achievement. If this is Blizzards way of limiting how many people get the Violet Proto-Drake, then I'm really bothered by that. It should be skill or tenacity, not complete random dumb luck. For my Merrymaker title, I leveled my cooking from 1-350. For my Elder title, I spent over 4 hours traveling all over Azeroth looking for elders. No luck involved. Now I can't get that Proto-Drake because I decided to sleep at night and spend time with my family, rather than logging in once an hour to get some stupid bag that MIGHT include what I need. Total fail on Blizz's part.
Joester Feb 16th 2009 9:23AM
SON OF A.... NO "ALL YOURS" FOR THAT STUPID CANDY!!!!... 3 CANDY BAGS AND NONE OF THAT CANDY! EFFIN BOOOOOGUS!!!!
All I got from those Adored things was Rockets and Bread/Booze.
Green Armadillo Feb 16th 2009 9:08AM
Finished the meta by playing EQ2 on my gaming rig and loading up WoW on my laptop once an hour to trick or treat. Guess I WTB the "yes, and this is the sorriest excuse for an event Blizzard has ever coded" option.
papermoonshine Feb 16th 2009 9:11AM
The only thing I wanted this year was the picnic basket. I wanted to bust it out when I was fishing or camping allies. Spent nearly my whole weekend getting gifts when I could. Nothing but boxes of chocolate, heart candies, and tons of bracelets. I just wanted the damn picnic basket you stupid shitty game -_-
Kaaylia Feb 16th 2009 9:29AM
Last night, right before I went to bed, my adored buff ran up and I decided that it was going to be my last try of the festival because I NEEDED sleep. No way in hell was Blizzard going to make me lose sleep over this. I was lucky enough to have my very last gift contain a bag of candies, and I pulled the final heart that I needed on the 6th try.
I got 3 black dresses, but no pets and no romantic picnic baskets. Oh well. I'm sick of this holiday. Glad it's over.
Aggie Feb 16th 2009 9:15AM
1 candy short. Thanks Blizzard for rewarding loyalty.
Mikefurion Feb 16th 2009 9:14AM
I just wanted Peddlefeet for my pet collection. Finally got him on Saturday. Everything else I just destroyed, candy and all.
Busilak Feb 16th 2009 9:16AM
I wanted at least the title or the pet, and I came out with neither. I was two pieces of candy away from the title and wherever I could, waited until the latest possible time before I could go to bed (here I am at 6AM after having gone to bed at 1AM). With 30 (more or less) gifts of adoration, I got just one damn bag of candy.
I pointed out in the forums that it's ironic that a seasonal event centered around love has stirred up a lot of hate and anger. lol
