Breakfast Topic: Dual specs

Mmmm. Dual specs. When this long-awaited feature kicks in with what we hope is Patch 3.1, we're going to be seeing quite a lot of those messages in trade or general. We might even be seeing the reverse, where groups will be looking to pick up players with two specific specs. That's a daunting thought, actually... what if groups want to pick up not just one specific spec but two? Yikes.
But never mind that. It's a good time to be excited. When the time comes, I think we're all going to go out, pay our trainers what looks to be a hefty sum of Gold, and gleefully pick out our two specs. We'll rearrange our action bars, settle on two sets of glyphs, and be along our way announcing to the world our new, versatile nature. In many ways, this makes all classes practical hybrids. My brother-in-law has been speccing between Survival DPS and a fantastic tank damage mitigation Beast Mastery build with Roar of Sacrifice whenever we do Sartharion with 3 drakes.
So here's what I want us to munch on this morning -- what two specs will your classes be picking up? I think I might do PvE / PvP Retribution for my Paladin, Affliction PvE / Demonology PvP for my Warlock, Elemental PvP / Restoration PvE for my Shaman, and PvE / PvP Survival for my Hunter. Everyone in my guild has been looking forward to this feature, and I think it's going to shake things up a bit. What're your dual specs going to be?

Not sure yet, that is the only problem with the hybrid classes too many choices! I can't decide between Elemental/Resto or Enhance/Resto. Leaning more toward Ele/Resto because less of a gear swap that way.

All those that are complaining about carrying around extra gear never played Druids to end game. Heh.
Mains a Feral Druid and I love it too much to be anything else so my two will be Feral Tank Spec and Feral Cat DPS spec.

Hang on.... a post about duel specs. What a new and creative thing to do!
lightningjynx Feb 17th 2009 9:21AM
And your posting on every single one whining about it is just as original. STFU

duel doesn't equal dual.
Enjoy your rouge?

Well I'm a feral druid tank, and whilst I'm mainly into PVE I do enjoy doing PVP too, but I never respec for it usually as I do it in bits.
So I'll be going Feral Bear PVE & Feral Kitty PVE/PVP...
I'll find a spec for both PVE and PVP, I don't really do arenas anyway and burst is nice in BGS.

I honestly could care less about dual spec's ... maybe it is the classic RP-er in me .. but I create characters with an idea for them in mind.
My Druid was made to be a tree, and is not going to be a Boomkin or a Cat anytime soon. (Bear is not an option, I'm a sponge-tank no matter what class I tank as)
I might change my mind when this is all implemented, but as a whole it seems somewhat silly to me. Other then a PvP/PvE switch, all a DPS class can be is another DPS.
While Tri-spec classes like Paladins and Druids still have to respec if they want to utilize the 3rd possible spec.

DK - Dual Wield (0/32/39) DPS / 2h (Unholy) DPS
I utterly abhor tanking. I did that enough with my warrior and pally, I can't take the abuse any longer.

My hunter will start out with a SV PvE build, then a BM pet beast build for soloing lvl 60 / 70 raid dungeons and also so I can still raid and then look for Loq while I picke herbs. I may swtich it up with two SV builds (PvE/PvP) but may just respec for PvP since it's not that often.

I have been waiting for this ... Im so tired of paying to switch on my druid between Resto for raiding and an odd balance/resto mix for PvP

I'm hoping that the cost of dual speccing is around 10-15k. I was hoping for a cooldown of an hour to discourage people from just tossing around specs like mad but apparently that isn't going to happen. That's why I hope the cost will be somewhat prohibitive.
We need decent gold sinks anyway. Inflation is out of control. Sitting on around 130k gold on my characters combined and I'm pretty sure most everyone else is in the same situation.
Max Feb 17th 2009 9:21AM
actually some people have lives and don't grind to 130k gold
Arcaria Feb 17th 2009 9:33AM
has nothing to do with that my friend. I play between 1 and 3 hours a night usually when I get home from work and then spend the rest of the time doing things with my girlfriend or roommates. Gold just piles up after you run out of things to spend it on. I started WOTLK with close to 80k just from running dailies and instances.
I do appreciate your swipe at me and your assumptions of what I do with my life. I'm sure yours is wonderful though and thus explains why you don't have any gold in game.
Max Feb 17th 2009 9:21AM
... four 80s? really?
where the hell do you find time for that
Duncan Feb 17th 2009 9:35AM
Ya right everyone is sitting on 130k gold lmao
Duncan Feb 17th 2009 9:33AM
"I think we're all going to go out, pay our trainers what looks to be
a hefty sum of Gold"
Not that the gold is the biggest issue with respecing, what amount
are we talking about has anyone heard?
FenSat Feb 17th 2009 9:48AM
I suspect that it will be less than or comparable to an epic flyer, as Blizzard seems to want this tool readily available to raiders.
Eanon Feb 17th 2009 9:40AM
Always been boomkin on my Druid, but I've been grabbing feral gear when I see it and have a decent set now for an off-tank when dual-spec rolls out.
Creelie Feb 17th 2009 7:14PM
I'll be keeping my Disc spec for grouping, and making a Shadow spec for when I'm out and about on my own.
FenSat Feb 17th 2009 9:54AM
Well, now that hybrids have the advantage of flexibility gained from being more readily able switch specs, can pure DPS classes regain the advantage of doing at least marginally more DPS than hybrid classes?
"Bring the player, not the class" is a nice concept, but at this point, if talent levels are equal, why bring a pure DPS class (now that abilities have been pretty homogenized) when you can bring hybrids who can push as much DPS and offer the flexibility that dual-specs offer? Before, when spec switching was non-trivial, it wasn't much of an issue, but now, when it seems like it's going to be as easy as paying a fee and then whipping out the scribe-made object, I think this "equalization" in DPS between "pures" and "hybrids" might need to be undone.
