WoW EU previews Ulduar
We've been waiting not-very-patiently for news on Ulduar and patch 3.1, and the WoW EU website certainly delivered today. A preview for Ulduar has been posted, with some descriptions of the early raid encounters and a little more lore flavor for the zone itself. The very beginning of the preview gives a little setup for the zone: "Some thought it a city, built to herald the glory of its makers; some thought it a vault containing innumerable treasures, perhaps even relics of the mighty Titans themselves. They were wrong. Beyond its gates lies no city, no treasure vault, no final answer to the Titan's mysteries. All that awaits those who dare set foot in Ulduar is a horror even the Titans could not, would not destroy, an evil they merely... contained."
Awesome? I would say so. The preview also drives the point home that Blizzard is really loving the hard mode options of encounters. 11 out of 14 encounters will have a hard mode (or modes), so your raid can determine what they can handle. I don't want to get too excited about the preview, I'd like to see the zone in person before I get giddy, but it does sound damn cool and the pictures they supply are very pretty. Go forth and devour their bandwidth, my friends.
Need more news about Ulduar? We've got updates, previews, speculation, and everything else you need to know about the next big raid coming in patch 3.1. If the Titans are hiding it up there, we'll tell you about it here.

I agree with this, but as you mentioned earlier, just like C'thun, we are prob only going to fight and kill part of him.
Hell, even we are not sure if C'thun is truly dead, he may just be really mad we poked out one of his eyes x.x

Interesting. This means that part of that WoW Model Dev FAQ that was released a while ago was true. I wonder what else is true...
Zuldim Feb 17th 2009 2:01PM
I noticed this too. Now I'm praying that the part about the underground Azjol raid/zone is.
Kirtan Feb 17th 2009 1:51PM
Well, it's official! Yogg-Saron will be the last boss of Uldar.
Mr Crispy Feb 17th 2009 1:53PM
"But since its recent discovery"
So for the last umpteen number of years people just kind of walked past the GIGANTIC CITY LIKE STRUCTURE and was like "I wonder if there's anything interesting to explore around here...."

To be fair, Ulduar is across a gap from the rest of the Storm Peaks, and the Storm peaks themselves are very isolated unless you have access to some sort of flying mount or vehicle. It's not hard to imagine the races of the Alliance had no idea what was up there until recently.
Now, obviously the Frostborn, Sons of Hodir and Taunka probably knew Ulduar was up there.
Mr Crispy Feb 17th 2009 2:01PM
So it wasn't until we went into Outland and learned how to use flying mounts that we discovered it?
I can live with that explanation

@Xet:
On that note, who thinks C'thun is indeed still alive, and has a similar presence in Uldum? ;) You know, in Tanaris? If Yogg-Saron is indeed spread across most of Northrend, I see no reason C'thun can't be spread under Kalimdor. Say, from the Barrens down?
Think about it. The Aqir are seen scattered from the southern Barrens throughout various zones, finally down to Silithus, their home. They're in Tanaris, too, as is Uldum. Between Silithus and Tanaris? Un'Goro, a place very similar to--even connected to--Sholazar.

"Say, from the Barrens down?"
I say it's fairly apparent after only a minute in the general channel that C'thun's evil influence has completely consumed the Barrens.
Reinard Feb 17th 2009 2:14PM
...Touche. XD
Xet Feb 17th 2009 2:20PM
Yes I would think that part of Uldum might have been used as a prison for C'thun. Wonder if there a few more Titan prisons holding unspeakable evils.
And @ Karilyn yes it seems that this explains the evil released in the barrens chat.
Panda Feb 17th 2009 3:24PM
I believe C'thun wouldn't be in Uldum. Ithink the Old Gods take a race and control/work with them. Yogg is with the Iron Dwarfs and C'thun is with the bug-things (totattaly forgot the name) But Uldum is near one of their hives so who knows.

So...
Heres hoping its not mostly vehicle fights...
because if you read the intro, the first fight is all about vehicles...
Now all they need to do make a 4th spec "driving abilities"
Am I the only one annoyed by these types of encounters?
I put time into my toons to use them, not to try 3-4 button faceroll on vehicles....
Karilyn Feb 17th 2009 2:17PM
From what I read, the end of the fight, the important part where you kill the boss... had people dismount and get on the back of Voltron and defeat it there. I'm sorta picturing a fight with a similar design to like C'thun, Ragnaros, Mur'mur, or other stationary bosses... except in this fight, the "room" you fight in is Voltron's back, and the "Boss" you fight is like Voltron's nuclear reactor, or something of that sort.
As long as the vehicle part isn't too extensive... hopefully no longer than like 5-10 minutes, then I can live through it.

So, ulduar will have 14 bosses. I'm really interested in the hard mode concept for 11 of these bosses, it will be like Sartharion
crsh Feb 17th 2009 2:57PM
Giants and bots and mecha-gnomes to punt, oh my!
chained Feb 17th 2009 2:25PM
One final thing I would like to add the pictures shows a female titan model, perhaps that is Freya. Guess that would mean we will definitely fight her.
nick Feb 17th 2009 2:33PM
Looks awesome!
Could the PTR go up tomorrow? More likely in a weeks time though.
Itanius Feb 17th 2009 2:33PM
The moment it mentioned vehicles I lost interest. :(
I'm don't care for vehicular raiding, let alone vehicular PvE combat. Meh.
Halios Feb 17th 2009 3:03PM
Maybe it's just me, but I REALLY think they should NOT have made a hard mode for the vehicle stage. I have a lot of people in my raid groups that have UI bugs and other problems with their vehicles, and making such a tenuous mechanic into an even harder fight is going to make this fight simply impossible for some individuals.
