Why the confusion about this "insurance" ? I'll spell it out:The purpose of insurance is, in a nutshell, to minimize the disruption to your life in the event of some kind of catastrophe, financial or otherwise. So, when you buy flood insurance, what you're paying for is for some company to be ready to foot the bill to pump water out of your house, repair water damage (or build a new house, in extreme cases), replace lost valuables, etc. When you buy car insurance, you're paying a company to be ready to foot the bill to repair / replace your car (and the other driver's car, if you're at fault), provide you with a rental car to use in the meantime, and so forth. In other words, you're paying into a company that will, at various times, pay money back to a minority of its customers to replace lost goods and foot expenses to minimize disruption (hotel costs, rental cars, etc, as above). Okay, so in the case of WoW insurance, you're paying for. . . what? If you paid $5 a month to a company to "insure" you, they will guarantee that. . . no, wait, they can't. They don't own the servers, they have no connection to Blizzard. So, they can't actually guarantee that the servers will be up, or that the game will still even exist tomorrow. If your server goes down, then they cannot get Blizzard to credit your account for the downtime, because they have no connection to Blizzard. So, what are they gonna do? Give you a pat on the back and pay you a day's worth of subscription fees? A month? How could they have ever hoped to do that and still make money? Chances are, they'd pay you so little that you'd find you'd spend $60 / year on "insurance" and probably only get $12-24 back. What possible benefit could that be to the consumer? Do you actually expect that even one subscriber would EVER get more than his yearly fee back in a year? Personally, the times that I've had to "go do something else" instead of playing WoW because "ZOMG MAH SERVER IS DOWN" have been few and far in between. That's over a three-year period, playing at least for an hour almost every day. If they gave me even $50 every time I was completely unable to play for an entire day, I'd have. . . nothing. A delay for a couple hours? Sure. A delay for so long that I felt cheated by Blizz? Never. Say what you will, Blizz is pretty darn reliable when it comes to their servers. QQ OMG. Besides, I actually have a LIFE outside of WoW. So, if WoW really went down for a week or whatever, I wouldn't get bored, and I doubt most other people would either.Now, it's turned into a free website, where you register for fabulous prizes if your server is down for a long-time. *Yawn.* Why don't I just go out and register a domain so I can create an ad-supported website where I award fabulous prizes based on how many "bad hair days" people have?So, tell me again: How was this supposed to be a legit insurance scheme?
