Oh I couldn't agree more. Nobody is complaining about the presence of vehicle quests *in the game*. They're complaining about the fact that they are a *mandatory* part of some game content.

Essentially, by making everybody do vehicle quests to access major parts of the game, the designers *are* dictating what sources of fun there are for people.
