Two Bosses Enter: Eck the Ferocious vs. Amanitar

This week's matchup squares off two more of Wrath's five-man instance bosses who only appear in the heroic versions of their dungeons: kangaroo-on-crack Eck the Ferocious of Gundrak versus 'shroom king Amanitar of Ahn'kahet. What happens when Eck goes bounding across the tops of Amanitar's mushroom garden? Let's work it out.
First, the basics: assume that each boss has approximately the same level, health and damage output as the other. Since Amanitar's mushrooms are an integral part of his defenses, we'll set this match in Amanitar's boggy home turf, minus any adds but with the mushrooms he summons. Beyond that detail, we're out to debate the three S's: Style, Story and Scale. Don't get caught up in the game mechanics and player dynamics of each encounter. Consider the flavor each villainous gladiator brings to bear, then cast your vote for who you think would come out on top.
Eck the Ferocious (Gundrak)Eck is a tenacious little fellow who drops aggro and bounds about during battle. His flash point: a nasty enrage that increases his attack speed by 150% and all damage he deals by 500% – ouch!

Amanitar (Ahn'kahet)
Amanitar may not appear tremendously threatening, but the veritable garden of both helpful and harmful mushrooms that he spawns during battle can confound unwary opponents. Amanitar's shrink, combined with these potent fungi, can effectively neutralize attackers. Opponents must take advantage of Healthy Mushrooms when shrunken by Amanitar's Mini spell, while avoiding the effects of Poisonous ones.
Healthy Mushrooms cast Potent FungusPoisonous Mushrooms cast Poison Cloud
Amanitar himself has these abilities:
Bash
Entangling Roots
Mini
Venom Bolt Volley

Eck is too spry, he'll jump over those silly mushrooms even when he is miniturized.

Kangoroo on crack vs. shroom king rofl
I can't decide. Best matchup ever

Eck, no contest. Assuming he can figure out how the mushrooms work, he'll just jump right to the healthy ones when he needs them and jump right back into the fray. I doubt the poisonous ones will damage him much either, as he spits toxic bile all the time.
n2magic Feb 19th 2009 3:18PM
Eck isn't bright enough to jump into the good mushrooms. The poison gets him.
Camaris Feb 19th 2009 3:19PM
Difficult to call.
I voted Amanitar, because I doubt if Eck can figure out the mushrooms. Furthermore, Eck will probably be Mini-Eck (how cute!) for most of the time.
On the other hand, stupid luck and enraging may swing the battle towards Eck.

Woundn't mini-Eck still be under berserk?
25% of his berserk damage would still be 125% of his normal.
I vote for gummi bear gone bad!
Draykin Feb 19th 2009 3:19PM
Amanitar. Bash Eck into a poisonous mushroom, root him in place, and it's all over. I honestly don't think Eck is smart enough to be able to avoid a good bashing.
Draykin Feb 19th 2009 3:21PM
I'd also like to add that if Amanitar could keep Eck past 25 yards that he could spam Venom Bolt because it has a 100 yard range while Eck Spit only has 25. Sure Eck could try to spring, but Amanitar could easily keep him rooted in place.
Meethan Feb 19th 2009 3:21PM
Amanitar IMO. Heres the throw down
(Unintelligent)
Fight starts, Amanitar rushes in and its melee for a bit. Then once Eck gets shrunk its over 100%.
(Intelligent)
Fight starts and they engage. Eck and Amanitar do some pretty nasty nature damage to each other. Eck will jump around but Amanitar can just root him. Even on and eck spit, he can root him and get out of range. Eck would probably dispell the shrink but in this case Amanitar would bash his face in before he could. The Frenzy would be the only diffulty for Amanitar.
IMO Amanitar wins this kinda easy.
Cinate Feb 19th 2009 3:27PM
i vote Amanitar. Sure Eck is fast, but lacks the concentration to stay on Amanitar. He will most likely target random mushrooms and attack them, but Amanitar will just keep beating on him.
Ruta Feb 19th 2009 3:23PM
Eck. As much as Amanitar would try, Eck would hit his beserk timer, and then have a nice Mushroom Salad to snack on while he returns to Gundrak.
notailmouse Feb 19th 2009 9:48PM
AMANITAR!!!!
Enuf magic mushrooms for everyone!
SimpleSurvival Feb 19th 2009 3:25PM
I think this one is going to have to end as a draw....
Eck will jump around all crazy like... def not smart enough to understand the mechanic, he'll enrage eventually... but it'll be the cutest lil mini-enrage you've ever seen
I don't actually think the poison mushrooms would be too much of a problem for Eck.
Amanitar would get covered in Eck vomit repeatedly and decide that its better than killing the guy...
Ernestly Feb 19th 2009 3:25PM
If somebody explained it to him using very small words, Eck could be all over those mushrooms until his timer pops and then it'd be all over.
Halios Feb 19th 2009 3:27PM
Eck is immune to roots, so CC is out of the question. Amanitar doesn't do the damage necessary to bring Eck down before Eck goes berserk and rips him in half.
Draykin Feb 19th 2009 3:47PM
His immunity is a game mechanic that shouldn't be accounted for in this I believe.
Candina@WH Feb 19th 2009 4:27PM
Actually, if ROOT is being considered an ability for Amanitar, then root immunity needs to be considered for Eck.
It is only fair.
That being said. The mini-Eck buzz-saw of death cuts Amanitar into Truffle patte
oscurotoro Feb 19th 2009 7:31PM
Root immunity isn't an Eck specific ability it's a function of being a boss mob, thus it should not be counted. No way eck is smart enough to figure out the mushrooms and mini-eck stands no chance, also dropping aggro doesn't do you any good 1v1. Amanitar hands down.
Llothtank Feb 19th 2009 3:37PM
My vote is a bit biased here. I've only run AK once, on normal while leveling my Protadin. So I don't remember the Amanitar fight that well...however, I have run Heroic Gundrak many many times, enough in fact to have gotten every heroic achievement out of that place, and I have never died to Eck. I think Eck is a pretty easy fight, and his jump would only hurt him here. When he drops aggro to attack a mushroom, Amanitar is gonna be sitting there whacking away on the dumb gorloc for a few extra seconds longer. The only thing that I see giving Eck an advantage is his enrage at 30%, so I vote draw, mainly 'cause I don't remember Aman well enough.
Colin Feb 19th 2009 6:03PM
Amanitar only shows up on Heroic.
