For my character, his interest in alchemy evolved as a natural tangent from his path of Shamanism. Whilst seeking to better understand the power of the elements and natural forces, it wasn't surprising that he cultivated an interest in how to combine and draw power from various plants and elements. As he became strong in one field, his prowess in the other quickly excelled also.Easy rp i know, but they do dovetail nicely.

That's a good background for an alchemist, but how do you work it into his daily interactions with people? In the end, does it still boil down to a "Would you like some potions with your happy meal?" kind of a thing? Or do you say something like this: "Behold the power of the earth, as I mix these ingredients together to unveil nature's magical blessings!"

More like he switches from one discipline to another as the situation requires it. For instance, having brought an ally back from near death during a battle, after healing that person with spiritual powers he might also set about using various ingredients he has collected on the the journey to make them a rare protective elixir to fortify them for what lies ahead. Its more of a reactive thing as I see it.
