Monday morning PTR updates [Updated]
A couple updates for you this morning regarding the Patch 3.1 PTR. First, the PTR is not live yet. And now there's a blue thread stating such over on the European forums. "Current PTR status: Not Live." Supremely helpful in the world of misinformation and confusion that propagates around the intertubes. Update: There is now a US blue thread as well.
The thread does note that "the status of the PTR may change fast and without warning." This basically means that it's in the final stage of getting ready to go live, and that means patch notes.
And on the issue of patch notes, we have heard from numerous blues over the weekend that they have them – but are just not releasing 'em yet. This is too bad, of course, but at least they're ready and will be handed out sooner rather than later.
The PTR forums are active, and you can queue your character to copy over to the PTR now. However the actual character queue is reportedly around 12 days and growing, so it might take some time. Apparently this rather extreme length is because the actual copy process has not begun to run (yet), and so the characters are just getting stacked up to copy over. My guess is that the wait time will shrink rather quickly once things get going.
Should be an exciting week! Stay tuned!

Harsh, very harsh.

Adam for President.
On topic: Is it likely they'll wipe copied characters *again*?
Adam Holisky Feb 23rd 2009 9:56AM
I really doubt it. They would have said something by now. But with that said, there could always be some technical issue that comes up and necessitates a (testing) realm-wide wipe, but that's just the nature of testing.

Adam, today, you sire, are made of win.

The people who type "first"...are they the same people who drop the stupid choo choo train when the raid leader is trying to figure out why we keep wiping?
are they same type of person who is continually making the trade channel unusable? are they same kind of person who addons like ignoremore are created?

Adam, I know you like your coffee... but can you skip it every morning? It sure would clear up the biggest pet peeve of readers on this site!
Awesome comment.

No worries. I haven't had my coffee yet either. And it looks like they're closed again, with a 25 day wait now.

What's the deal with the character copy?! I actually had to do some work on Friday and missed the announcement. Now every time I go back to check, not only do I see the msg that the queue is full, but the average wait time continues to grow. Yesterday morning it was 19 days, and this morning when I checked, it said 24 days!
LOL... At this rate, 3.1 will be live before I ever get around to checking out the PTR.

I know, it's a conundrum. Maybe it's Marvin in charge of the copies this time and we'll eventually see that wait time turn into an infinity symbol. Or it'll stop growing at 42. Either one. Same difference.
Adam Holisky Feb 23rd 2009 10:12AM
Probably more around 37.
Gryph667 Feb 23rd 2009 10:19AM
Well if that was the case it'd definitely be latte time. Maybe even breve. Mocha. With crumpets. And a tea chaser. Can't forget the tea. You never know when you're going to get another decent cup of tea. Not in this universe.
SBKT Feb 23rd 2009 12:41PM
It looks to be so full you can't actually queue anymore.
Spiral Feb 23rd 2009 1:02PM
The queue has been "full" for a while now. At the very least when it was at "12 days" wait time. So if it's "full" and character copies are not, and have not, been allowed for some time now, how exactly does the wait time continue to grow?
Ferarro Feb 23rd 2009 2:19PM
Blizzard can't even balance it's PTR queue!
=P

Its simple really, because the time is averaged on how long it takes a character to get copied. The time keeps going up because the first character hasn't been copied over yet so it thinks it gonna take a long time for each other character and adds timed based on its presumed averages. After they start coping characters over, which I believe they are doing now, the time will drop drastically as it gets new average times to base its overall time on.
