The Queue: Good morning Azeroth!

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.
Welcome to this edition of The Queue. It's 11:00 a.m. Do you know where your children are? Hopefully they're firmly planted in some sort of edumacation. I am so smart, S. M. R. T., I mean S. M. A. R. T.

That depends. Mount Hyjal and Black Temple were being cleared with 15 to 20 fully Sunwell geared players right before Wrath came out. I did a number of these raids myself. They were more difficult, sure, but when you had 15 or 20 players that had done the fights hundreds of times for a year, well, it's really second nature to many folks.
Sunwell was a different animal due to some of the DPS / Tanking / Healing checks throughout the instance. You'd have been hard pressed to do Brutallus with anything less than 22 people – and even that would be pushing it for most top-of-the-top-end guilds (pre nerf).
If you are going in with people that truly have been there for a year or more, I would expect it could be 10-maned easily. If the players are really top notch, the kind of god like players that you kind of wonder if they're cheating they're so good, you could probably see a 5-man clear MH/BT. For everyone else I'd recommend between 15 and 20 players.
Kara, Gruul, Mag, SSC, and most of TK can probably be 5-maned without too much hassle. I would say however that with Kael'thas you might run into significant problems. And remember too that several fights have legitimately hard mechanics which require extensive study and practice (ie: Kale'thas and Vashj). Even though the bosses might not hit hard, the actual encounters themselves still require coordination.

"While I understand it's called WoW Insider, I'm curious on what everyone at WoW Insider thinks about the upcoming Blizzard releases of StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3? Also, any plans for a StarCraft Insider and Diablo Insider?"
Everyone here is excited about both those titles, and we're gonna be first in line to get them. I personally had the chance to sit down and play them for several hours at BlizzCon thanks to the press room, and I can say that they're truly amazing games.
I don't think there are any plans for specific sites in the future, but I can't really say one way or another. We do already have excellent coverage of StarCraft II and Diablo 3 over at JoyStiq and Big Download. For some more coverage, check out the interview I did with Chris Sigaty (lead producer of StarCraft II) and some gameplay impressions of StarCraft II. Also take a look at Daniel Whitcomb's coverage of the Diablo 3 Class Panel and Diablo 3 Art and Lore Panel.

Question for a future edition:
What would be a good place to start for someone who wants to learn some Warcraft Lore ? And I'm not talking about brushing up some pre-existent knowledge or anything like that ... If I'm completely new to the Warcraft world, where should I go, what should I read to get started ?
Ogerin Feb 23rd 2009 2:23PM
So what was with the change for a DK's Howling Blast? Wasn't that supposed to be a no-cooldown spell, or was that an error in the patch notes from a while ago?
The Moonkin Feb 23rd 2009 2:36PM
These other comments lack the type of flaming that Adam deserves. Like he is bad at wow and life. Also a horrible warrior; I watched him tank in BC and in WOTLK and he is still just bad.
Love,
The Moonkin

Aww! Thriskypoo!
You should get on AIM and stuff since I'm never in game.

I started playing WoW last summer, and got to 70 just before WotLK. Since the expansions release I have basically consumed all the content (I am fully Naxx10 geared), and moved on to older content that I never got to experience (because I am an achievement whore). I'm now exalted with Timbermaw Hold and Argent Dawn, and started moving onto BC rep achievements. What I have found is I can solo most of the low to mid level dungeons (I am a warlock), but the level 70 dungeons tear me up (at least any bosses with large numbers of adds). This is disconcerting to me since those dungeons seem to be the only way to get exalted rep with certain factions (like Cenarion Expedition and Thrallmar). Will I just have to wait until the next expansion comes out and I can nuke twice as hard as now?

Maybe this has been asked in the past and I've missed it, but are there any plans mentioned by Blizzard to upgrade older parts of the game world by using phasing? Good examples that come to mind are the Plaguelands, Felwood and Westfall - eventually things should change there with the defeat of the Scourge, the work of the Cenarion Circle and the rooting out and destruction of the Defias gang. Other examples might be taking back Stromgarde Keep; or the Night Elves reclaiming ancient cities such as Dire Maul; or the establishment of a zone the Trolls could call their own. Eventually the impact of 11+ million players should be at least noticable by a changed game world. This would give new life to old zones and allow new content to be added to familiar places, while keeping the original content as is for lower level players.
Ideally...this could be taken one step further by finally ridding Lordaeron of those nasty Forsaken and taking back Undercity for real. *grin*
Those are just a few examples, but there are so many places where phasing could be used to great advantage to bring new life to old world zones at the same time new content is added via patch or expansion.

Question:
Is the blue items called Rare or Superior? I know green is Uncommon and purple is Epic, but I seem to have seen both Rare and Superior for blue. Not that it's a big deal, but it does bother me.
SaintStryfe Feb 23rd 2009 5:50PM
Generally, Rare. Both terms are used (Superior is an old DND term for a well crafted object, one where the craftsperson rolls very well in creating, and it might have a non-magical stat bonus). But I believe if you check the manual/blizz' website, blue items are officially called Rares. Both terms are completely acceptable though.
Hendrata Feb 23rd 2009 5:55PM
In http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/items/basics.html towards the bottom, there is a sentence: "When you destroy a superior quality (blue) or better item,..."
Also, the description of the Superior achievement says superior
http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=557
Yeah I think you're right, Blizzard intended it to be "Rare" but some people in charge of the website and the achievements made little mistakes here and there

What do you guys think about those gold guides that you can buy? Like Derek's gold mastery guide, etc. It seems like a scam (I don't mind if it's like game guides that you buy at a shop, which has information you already knew in it, just set out nicely) but when they say things like 'special price $44, was $77'. I bet it was never $77.

Dear Wowinsider.
I play A Holy Paladin on the Darkspear Eu realm. I dont have time to raid, but i PvP a lot and its where i get all my gear. I have two epic questions. Firstly, When is there going to be decent PvP gear comming out for us Holy Pallys and secondly what is a good amount of mana for me to have? How much is Too much and How much is Not enough?

Why isn't the 'hidden arena rating' being applied to battlegrounds too? It seems that it would make battlegrounds more fair for the less experienced and more challenging for the better players. Does it seem like there's any plan for this?

I'd like to hear about how various healers use Omen. As a damage-dealer, I seldom need to see more than just the threat levels of my current target. As I healer I'm generating more multi-target threat, so I need a picture. My usual tank is a pally-- pallies don't need to switch targets as often as warrior tanks, so I'm not sure that using Omen's focus mode will be much help. What do other healers do?

Hello Queue,
I'm a big fan of leveling alts (7 level 70+ so far). One class that I've never tried is a druid - primarily because I like leveling as a caster, and one piece of conventional wisdom is that certain dps trees for some classes are far more aggravating for leveling purposes than other alternatives. I'm thinking specifically of moonkins v. kitties, ele shammies v. enhances, and smite priests v. shadow priests.
I was wondering if WotLK has changed this around. Are these "other" dps specs equally viable for leveling? Or do they still lag behind the "favored" spec of each class for getting from 1 to 60 with a minimum of hassle.
Risik Feb 23rd 2009 7:40PM
I've done brutallus a month or so after wrath, when we were all 80, with a total of ~10 people and i'm pretty sure we had a dps tank on one side. it was rediculous, and we were still not that close to the enrage timer. it can be done.
