Breakfast Topic: The Achievement from hell
I know not all of you are Achievement addicts, but you have to admit, it's kind of fun when you get that little golden plate show up on your screen. Some of them just happen, while some of them have to be worked on. As much as I hate to admit it, we have had to postpone getting Twilight Zone for another week. We were close, but for some reason we just couldn't get over the hump. Even though I'm certain we'll get it soon, it's gotten frustrating at some point. Before I got Master of Arathi Basin last week, I almost tore my hair out in dismay trying to complete Arathi Basin Veteran when I ran into a very long, excruciating string of very long, excruciating games that just ended up in losses. I'm convinced that there are just Achievements from hell. I'm not looking forward to grinding Alterac Valley Veteran, even though it's the only one I need for the meta. For the Achievement addicts out there, which is your white whale? For those who couldn't care less about Achievements, which one wouldn't you even dream of trying?

I read something about a new one in 3.1 having insane reps..
- Honoured with Bloodsail
- Exalted with BB, Everlook, Gadgetzan, Ratchet, Darkmoon, Ravenholdt and Shen'dralar
- the Consortium tabard

That's not true, no chance anyone can be expected to grind exalted with those.

It is true. You get the title. The Insane. Look it up on Thottbot.

Yes, it's usually a bit after the third drake lands that things can start to go wrong very fast.
My guild got ours with 2 paladin healers, DG is OP. We used it and just ignored twilight torment and just burned Sharon. Not saying thats the only way to do it but that's something that made it work for us.

Artisan Fisherman, Fish Don't Leave Footprints, The Old Gnome and the Sea, etc. - anything that involves fishing :) I had it maxed out on a character i dont play anymore (not even on that server) - never again :)

I was going to try to get the Loremaster title for my arcane-spec mage, since it seemed really appropriate. Then I saw what I had to do to get it. @_@ As much as I understand the principle behind it, doing pretty much every single quest in the game with one character doesn't sound like much fun. Ah, well.

I'm often tempted by this as it turns out i'm only about 100 quests away from eastern and the same for Kalimdor but haven't yet gotten the energy to go out and hunt for them.
Also does anyone find their achievements fluctuate? Currently for example i have the 500 daily quests achievement, yet i logged in the next day and though i still have the achievement the tracker for 1,000daily quests says i'm on 495 as does the statiistics page. Master of arms says i have nothing yet i have it. City defender went from 35 all the way down to 5 after a day passed. I don't have the 3,000 quest achievement and yet the statistics page says i've done over 3,100.
The achievement system still seems to have a way to go to me.

Loremaster is still the only achievement I REALLY had to work for. It's definitely the high point in my WoW experience and I never get tired of showing off my title.
I've always kinda wanted to win the Fishing Contest, but the few times I've remembered to get out there in time for it I got completely trounced.

Accomplished Angler is definitely my white whale. I've been casting for the "One Which Didn't Get Away" over 5k times, and still no dice. I read in the wowhead forums that some have gotten this accomplishment on a couple of casts - lucky them. For now, the Dark Herring is my white whale!
Now if you'd asked me about 2 weeks ago, I'd be cursing about some damn Bag of Candies ...

go fishing in stonebull lake in mulgore. they have the rare fish. Someone who already had "salty" told me to go there spent a few minutes and caught him. Try fishing it up there I bet you will get it :)
Ohnoto Feb 24th 2009 8:15AM
"One That Didn't Get Away" is completely random, and sucks that you have yet to get it.
I got it on an alt, on a different server from all my mains that I don't play on anymore. That character is level 15. LOL. I got mine in less than 75 casts down in bloodhoof village.

Screenshot, or it didn't happen.

You'll hate me, then, I caught the Dark Herring last week completely by accident. :D Look up 'Trilynne' on US Maelstrom when the armory is back up if you want proof.

I have to ask if you are fishing for the Dark Herring in schools of herring? Or open water?
I sat around fishing Mulgore's open water for about two weeks straight, with a total of about two and a half hours a day (usually did it between work and class...) finally, I asked myself why I was doing this.
I decided to go fish Fangtooth Herring in Northrend since a guildie used them for raids, and I had a chance at the Dark Herring. I decided also to go pool hunting, since it was generally a MUCH more entertaining form of fish grinding...
Third pool I caught the Dark Herring. I find very little numbers, but I hear many people just grinding open water for the Herring, and I have to guess that it is counter intuitive.
If you ARE pool fishing then I got nothing for you. Sucks to be you. My only other advice besides pool fishing is avoid low level starting zones like Mulgore. You catch nothing of value or interest in those zones, and is boring in the extreme. Northrend fishing at least has the potential to be entertaining.

The Love Fool achivement is my white whale... or more specfically, the Be mine!...
God I hated that damn event
Amanda Feb 24th 2009 8:11AM
I did the "salty" achievement. For the most part the meta achievement was not too bad. Time consuming, yes. But then it gets down to having just one or two left. The fishing tournament on sundays is the worst by far. There are so many people that just come along to keep their buddies safe, low lvls that come to steal the nodes when they have no chance to win. It only comes once a week and only one winner so you have to fish fast and hope you get lucky. Not lucky? Sucks for you :)
Now I want to do the achievement again on an alt :)

Managed to finally get into a good SWP Pug a few dags ago, so I finally got the KJ kill and thus the Outland Raider achievement. Currently working on Loremaster, with only 619/685 of Kalimdor left to get the meta done.
and then there is...
Frostbitten (kill ALL rare Northrend creatures)

Tbh, with achievements my mantra is "if at first you don't succeed, give up". I have around 5000 APs, but there are some I will never bother with because I do achievements for fun, and don't need the stress. For me that includes certain PvP ones.
However, I still try the heroic instance ones because I believe they are possible. It's mainly ones I find boring as well as difficult, I don't bother with.

People still do AV? :P

Well the upcoming Brewfest Brew of the Month Club is going to be a pain in the ass...
it's for the Meta What's a Strange Trip it's been for the Violet Proto-Drake, but if I read this correctly it will take another year of drinking a new brewfest brew every month to get this meta!!!
That's insane!!! I hope Blizz fixes this like they fixed A Mask for all Occasions in Hallow's End.
