Dual specs currently cost 1000g
Hot off the PTR, the current price for Dual Specs is 1000g.
Many thanks to Dustin for sending us the screenshot of the process (see a larger version). You can see that the NPC gives you a little background about the feature, and then the confirmation box comes up asking if you're sure that you want to spend all that gold.
Obviously, this is the point where you click "Accept" and dance around for joy that you now have two specializations.
We'll have more about the exact mechanics and workings of dual specializations as the day goes on. In the mean time, check out the WoW Insider Guide to Patch 3.1 and the PTR Patch 3.1 Patch Notes for more information.
Patch 3.1 brings us Ulduar, dual specs, significant changes to all the classes, and more! We've got you covered from top to bottom with our Guide to Patch 3.1.

Woah, if it is that cheap you can't even call it a money sink :) Make it go live, now!
Andrew Feb 24th 2009 5:06AM
Steeper than I would have hoped, but roughly exactly what I was expecting.

Pitching it the same level as the Northrend 'flying tax' would seem reasonable, though I never see the point of charging people these amounts on the PTR. If they want it to be tested, then make it free on the PTR so the maximum amount of people can test it.

Probably has more to do with marketing than anything. So many people were whining that this wasn't immediately being given to be open to leveling toons, that its best they attach the gold tag to it now so people will stop thinking of it as free candy.

It also allows them to test the price. If too many people are bitching about it being expensive, they might rethink it. That said, I think 1000g is perfect.

Not that 1000g is a great deal, but personally I sure as hell didn't expect such a cost for this.
Sanol Feb 24th 2009 5:16AM
exactly... need to grind some gold now -.-'
jrizutko Feb 24th 2009 9:20AM
When has blizzard ever not attached a huge gold cost to a new feature like this?
Kakistocracy Feb 24th 2009 2:24PM
Yikes, three of those will cut into my third epic flying training.
Andrew Feb 24th 2009 5:09AM
Also, is it still max level only?
Andrew Welch Feb 24th 2009 5:16AM
yes.
thank god I uninstalled before news of 3.1 - I don't think I could escape if I hadn't

1000 gold isn't tooo much but imo if they charge 1k then they should make it a little bit easier to switch between them. 1k + needing some kind of inscription book and multiple persons to summon said book then I don't know how worthwile it is.
I would have liked this for levelling but for just raiding + questing now at 80 I don't see as much benefit as I used to in this feature.

@ trashy
The people to summon the crafted lexicon is not mandatory. You can still go to any lexicon of power in any capital city and swap specs withour needing a summoning party.
The crafted lexicon is for swapping specs in the middle of a raid (out of combat, of course).

Wish this had been here yeserday, then i wouldn't have blown 1,6k on a hippogryph.
On the other hand...
DUAL SPECS WOOOOT
*Off to sell herbs to make 2k gold*

This won't be live for a month atleast, you can probably save to pay for 5 alts let alone your main in this time.
MechChef Feb 24th 2009 8:25AM
Buy/manufacture a chopper/mammoth. That is a hefty pill to swallow.
Magma Feb 24th 2009 6:16AM
Wow, I'm going to kill myself. After nerfing locks they make dual specs 1000g. Lol. Just lol.
naixdra Feb 24th 2009 10:08PM
Crap, just after I broke my bank getting enchants and gear for my shaman.
Back to blowing horns, and thrusting spears I guess.
jbodar Feb 25th 2009 5:39AM
Naixdra, you don't have to put on the red light...

I'm really pleased with this price point to be honest.
1000g is really not alot at this stage of the game, none of my 3 characters are 80 yet, but all 3 have flying mounts (except the pally, she has the gold, but isn't 77 yet) and could afford to drop 1000g into dual specs at 80 if I wanted to. But I don't.
I currently play a protection paladin as my "main", I have a disc priest as my "alt" and a I have a DK made as well, though he doesn't get played. I also have a level 55 warrior getting levelled up for melee DPS. I enjoy tanking as a paladin, I enjoy healing as disc, and melee DPS from a warrior has always appealed to me, I can't see where dual specs would benefit me.
But I do like the 1000g cost, it's really cheap, and will earn it's self back in only a few weeks for most of the players I know.
