Patch 3.1 introduces new Kirin Tor rings
Wrath of the Lich King introduced a set of epic rings you could purchase in Dalaran for gold. While they were an obvious gold sink, they were legitimately useful, too. A gold sink done right, in my opinion. Rather than forcing us to pay to get our riding skill back or something like that, it was an optional (but very tempting) epic that you could drop the gold on if you want.Patch 3.1 is actually making this investment even sweeter. For another 1000g (at Exalted) you can upgrade your current ring (if you purchased one) for an improved version, keeping it current and relevant. You need to trade in the old one along with the gold when you pick up the new one, so you can't wear them both at the same time unless you re-purchase the first afterwards. Not a smart thing to do, in my opinion.
If you want to see the stats on the new set of rings, just check out our little gallery below.

@Billdoor
Tanking rings may not NEED +Def, but they certainly do need avoidance and mitigation. No dodge, parry, block, or other stats means I'll never wear it over a ring WITH Defense, Dodge, or Parry. It's just not worth the now 9000g for it.
For the record, just because the ring has Strength doesn't make it tanking. That makes it DPS with Strength instead of Agility.

Funny how many of the above comments mention defense/dodge/parry/block ratings as defensive stats but not (bonus) armor.

If you aren't a druid I assume it's nice to have even a little defense on every item so you you have to stack less gems/enchants.

if you need a 9K gold ring to hit 540, fail...avoidance is avoidance, def is better but not required to be a tanking stat

If you need to spend 9K on a ring that is poorly itemized...

Excellent, I was worried that I'd eventually replace my ring for one with better stats. But as long that they keep scaling the rings up to current tier, then I don't mind dropping a handful of gold for an upgrade.

Who called the Inscribed ring a tanking ring? Obviously you either never played a tank, or you are a really crappy tank. Tanks don't need crit, expertise is already high enough with armor.
It would be like putting dodge, and block value on it and calling it a dps ring.
Jamesy Feb 24th 2009 9:06PM
Also, why would tanks get a ring that would take away from their avoidance, and keep their stam about the same .. or lower? How is that a tanking ring again?

At least the caster dps ring looks nice...
Now all I need is another 10k just laying around

Nice tank ring... oh, wait, nevermind

Are these on a shared cooldown/location with the hearthstone?
I was very disappointed to find out my Ruby slippers wouldn't give me a second hearth. Dunno why I'd pay for a ring to do the same thing, either. (If the slippers are broken from battle and you've tossed your hearthstone, you can't hearth home until you find civilization to give you a new stone (which won't be set where you want it), etc.)

Check out the rings, you'll see they state 'Teleports the user Dalaran" not "hearthstone location" You can set your hearth elsewhere and bounce back and forth.
And yea... where's my tanking ring?

Ya, no tank ring, and why buy a ring for 8K when you can buy one off AH for half the price. Common sence says tanks will not be buying them at all.
