The Queue: I have no regrets. Well, maybe one...

Maintenance day, maintenance day! One of the best days of the week, or one of the worst? I'll leave that to all of
you to decide.
Nautical D asked...
I stopped playing WoW just before 3.0 patch came out and deleted all my characters and items to make sure I didn't return, is there any way I could get back and start on WotLK without having to roll new chars?
As some of our readers commented, if you felt strongly enough about quitting to delete everything, are you really sure that you want to come back? I don't mean to discourage you from playing WoW if you want to play WoW, but there must have been a reason you deleted everything, right?
If you want to come back, there are a couple of things that you can try. The easiest is to make a low level alt and file a GM ticket, telling them your situation. They'll probably ask you all sorts of questions, so be prepared for that. The other thing you can do is try to contact them by phone. They can typically restore everything, but sometimes they can't. If they can't, you gotta reroll.
Handbanana asked...
I was wondering if you could get the opposing factions motorcycle mount through the Neutral AH since it's BoE. I think it'd be cool to see someone riding around SW with a Horde chopper.
Nope, this doesn't work because while the Motorcycles are BOE, they have racial restrictions. If you look at their tooltip, only the Horde races can ride the Hog and only Alliance races can ride the Chopper.
Slavic asked...
As a lock I'm being told I'm not geared for raids, my armory page says my SP is 1343, however when I'm self buffed with Fel Armor it's more like 1667 SP. I politely point this out to raid leaders but I'm just ignored. I'm I really under geared or am I getting unfairly jilted?
Your Spell Power alone isn't going to carry you into raids. There are other stats you need to work on in addition to that, the most important one being Spell Hit. If you only stack Spell Power and nothing else, your DPS is going to be pretty horrible. You want to get as close to the hit cap as possible. I have a +Hit gear reference guide that I wrote awhile back that's aimed at Shadow Priests but would really work for any caster. Check it out, work on your hit, look into typical raiding talent specs and that sort of thing, and give it another go.

I will probably never delete my WoW characters.
jlpknights82 Feb 24th 2009 11:06AM
Me, either. I've never been able, nor have I really desired, to completely delete any MMO toon I've created. You end up investing a lot of time and effort on then, and I don't think I could bring myself to just blow that all away. XD
Donaghy Feb 24th 2009 11:11AM
Exactly, I still have my old Runescape toon, not that I've played him in years :P.
Turlagh Feb 24th 2009 11:46AM
I spent $50 moving two characters (lvl14 and lvl22) to make room on my main server for race/class that I would rather play. I just couldn't bring myself to delete them even though I will probably never play them. What was I thinking?

if you are aff spell hit helps but isn't the gospel it once was until you get to the later stages of 25 mans. in heroic pre naxx gear each pnt of hit provide .5 less dps per point then spell power the reason being is that recasting a missed spell usually only takes you a 1.5 gcd to recast(with a few exceptions) dest and demo do not benefit from this efficiency.. but that doesn't mean ignore hit...its just not your main concern when you begin
Sentient Feb 25th 2009 1:53AM
They mentioned that they deleted all their characters AND their items. Is it even possible to delete all your characters and NOT your items? I think not.
Nick S Feb 24th 2009 11:08AM
At the Warlock guy, it's possible you're being denied due to the popular impression that Warlocks are underpowered.
Try pretending to be a Mage.
mibluvr13 Feb 24th 2009 12:32PM
A warlock that knows what they're doing can outdps a DK that no idea.
Locks need to balance hit from gear, hit from talents, raw SP, and depending on your spec, crit and haste. Are you hit capped with talents? Are you logging off your lock with Fel Armor up?
And what kind of guild are you in at this point that wouldn't carry someone at your gear level? Seriously, two runs through Naxx25 would fix any gear issues. If they're still "progressing" through Naxx, why would they take an app that is below the level they need for raiding? Not being allowed to raid by your guild for gear reasons seems absurd to me...
vazhkatsi Feb 24th 2009 12:34PM
and even 1667 spellpower isn't very good. try running a few more heroics.
hold up Feb 24th 2009 4:33PM
LOL @ 1343 SP.
You do know that you are asking to be carried if your spell power is that low. Not saying that they shouldn't carry you, but if your raid is having trouble clearing it themselves your not helping with numbers like that. Wait till you get at least 1600 sp completely unbuffed before you even ask again.
1343? Do you have all open gem sockets and no enchants? That's.... REALLY low.
Dhryke Feb 24th 2009 11:09AM
Why have the Queue's been so short lately? Not enough questions? Too busy getting on the PTR? 3 questions isn't enough.
I have a friend who deleted everything and got it back 2 weeks later just to change realms :(

My question is about the future of skinning. Right now all of the other gathering profession have at least two professions that use their materials. Mining has Blacksmith, Jewelry and Engineering. Herb has Alchemy and Inscription. Skinning only has Leatherworking. Granted some of the other professions use leather in some recipes but the main use of leather is Leatherworkers. The problem with this is that currently there are no consumable leathercrafted items or BoP items. Yes there are the leg enchantments but that's not an item which is being constantly consumed, it is a one time item that is used on newly acquired gear. This lack of consumable has created an overwhelming supply of leather setting the price for a stack of Heavy Borean Leather to sell for 40g(on my server). This unreasonable price point has made farming undesirable and the only skinning I was performing occurred in the form of poaching while completing dailies. I have now abandoned skinning and leatherworking for more profitable professions. My question comes down to how can skinning become a viable source of income? Will a future expansions create another profession based around leather and if so what would be this profession? Will we see some addition of a consumable leather item in a future patch? A Bola would be a great consumable that I have seen implemented in past MMOs with great review. “Bolas, throwing weapon made of weights on the ends of interconnected cord” This would be an item for pvp as it would have the ability to dismount a player. I think with the addition of this item leatherworking and skinning could be saved.
Dhryke Feb 24th 2009 11:26AM
I never thought of Bolas. As a LW and Skinner I understand what you are going through. Even for PvE bolas would be another viable option for CC. If we ever need it again.
Candina@WH Feb 24th 2009 11:41AM
Basically, you're saying, please make Skinning as profitable as Mining, k thx.
Sorry dude, supply and demand is working against you. Skinning targets are MUCH more plentful than Herb/Mining nodes. So, by default, supply is much higher.
Add to this that Blizz seems to be streamlining crafting to be less 'multi-source dependant', and you get a reduction in demand.
Right now for, 'top end' items you still have 4 'sources' -- a gathering profession (cloth, mine, skin, herb) + a gathered mat (Eternals) + a raid/heroic gather (Orb) + a vendor component (Flux/Thread/Bottle). What you are asking for is that the already material intensive recipes require 2? gather profession mats? (and I know, engineering is somewhat like this already).
Pure consumable only have big mat components + vendor component.
So, unless they make armor kits ablative, you are probably out of luck.
What I want to see is leather working get a Glider! ;-)
Scunosi Feb 24th 2009 11:42AM
Skinning is actually used in quite a few professions, just at a less consistent rate. On my tailoring alt every few levels I seem to get a new recipe that needs leather, be it boots or a bag, and my engineering bf also needs leather.
I never leveled my lw very far, but can I assume it's like tailoring in that it takes vast quantities of one mat to make anything? Maybe that's why, although I do realize that blacksmithing takes a lot, too.
issachan Feb 24th 2009 12:04PM
Aah! Textwall crit!
Regardless of that...
Skinning is a profession that doesn't rely on nodes; hence it is perceived as easier than Herb and Mining. As for leatherworking, Fur Linings are nice, and the BOE epics are too... I am a blacksmith myself, and I'd consider LW to be on par with BS in terms of self buffs and craftables available.
Of course, new things are always interesting. I'd love to see these "bolas", perhaps in the form of craftable Thrown weapons with charges?

In response to Candina@WH
I’m not asking Blizzard to make craft able items requiring two gathering items. Sorry if there was some miscommunication on my part. I am trying to get across the need for another profession to be based around leather. As you stated leather is the most abundant source of materials within the game yet only one profession uses leather as a constant material.
“Pure consumable only have big mat components + vendor component.”
This is what is needed for leatherworking and there is currently nothing that does this. In TBC leatherworker at least had drums. Only leatherworkers could use them but they still were consumables and helped keep the demand of leather more constant. I personally enjoy professions and would like to see more attention towards them. Every MMO I have played with some type of profession I always level them as they are an important aspect of the game. When I first started WOW I was disappointed by the amount of professions. The lack of Fletching was my largest disappointment, the inability to create bows, crossbows, and arrows while guns are a constant. Fletching also bring Lumbering which I don’t see as being part of the WOW universe anytime soon.
pdkm Feb 24th 2009 12:20PM
There are new BoE craftable items coming in 3.1 that are on par with current best in slot items and require loads of leather & arctic furs to make. Stock up now & place them on the AH after some guilds start farming a few bosses in Ulduar (runic orbs) and you will be all set.
Mizzle Feb 24th 2009 1:21PM
I think we're going to see a new crafting profession based on skinning in the next xpac. BC had JC, Wrath has Inscrip.
Prices have not really "dropped", they've just leveled out as supply is now able to meet demand. I do sympathize with you, as I made close to 10k gold after Wrath launched (all those DKs needing glyphs), and now I'm lucky to make a few hundred gold in a week.
Leatherworking and similar crafting professions (BS, Tailoring) are not really meant to be super-profitable professions (hence no consumables). Most pick them up because they will benefit their character, and if you can make a little money on the side then consider yourself lucky.
Hokuto Feb 24th 2009 11:14AM
I deleted two characters on my foolish attempts to leave the game, a GM restored them without any hassle. They hadn't their gear on, obviously, but the bank was intact.
