Sorry dude, supply and demand is working against you. Skinning targets are MUCH more plentful than Herb/Mining nodes. So, by default, supply is much higher.
Add to this that Blizz seems to be streamlining crafting to be less 'multi-source dependant', and you get a reduction in demand.
Right now for, 'top end' items you still have 4 'sources' -- a gathering profession (cloth, mine, skin, herb) + a gathered mat (Eternals) + a raid/heroic gather (Orb) + a vendor component (Flux/Thread/Bottle). What you are asking for is that the already material intensive recipes require 2? gather profession mats? (and I know, engineering is somewhat like this already).
Pure consumable only have big mat components + vendor component.
So, unless they make armor kits ablative, you are probably out of luck.
What I want to see is leather working get a Glider! ;-)
