I think we're going to see a new crafting profession based on skinning in the next xpac. BC had JC, Wrath has Inscrip.

Prices have not really "dropped", they've just leveled out as supply is now able to meet demand. I do sympathize with you, as I made close to 10k gold after Wrath launched (all those DKs needing glyphs), and now I'm lucky to make a few hundred gold in a week.

Leatherworking and similar crafting professions (BS, Tailoring) are not really meant to be super-profitable professions (hence no consumables). Most pick them up because they will benefit their character, and if you can make a little money on the side then consider yourself lucky.
