Ammo changes MIA in the 3.1 PTR
We posted the patch notes as soon as they dropped, and our new Hunter writer, Jessica (a.k.a. Lassirra) did a great job of breaking down exactly what's new with Hunters, but you may have noticed, as a few of our tipsters did, that consumable ammunition was still in the game. There was no sign of the upcoming changes in the patch notes at all.Which isn't exactly unexpected (in fact, we have already heard that it wouldn't make the 3.1 PTR), but even the things that were promised to be in the PTR (no need for ammo pouches or quivers, bigger stacks for ammunition) still don't seem to be there. We still believe that Blizzard has this on the to-do list, but it looks like this change has been put aside for now.
Too bad -- that was a pretty exciting adjustment for Hunters. But Blizzard seems hard at work on things like the Argent Dawn Tournament and the Dual Spec system. We'll get the ammo changes when they get around to them.

Mike - I still haven't heard a whisper about the cower bug. Are they ever going to do something about this?

@Rob-
Then you and the other Hunters are not serious raiding hunters? Any hunter worth his salt can keep himself stocked. You know, you can put your arrows/bullets in your REGULAR BACKPACK too you know? When we first went through Naxx25 in Nov., it wasn't even a second thought. Fill up your quiver, then put an extra 10 or so stacks in your bag. Even if you don't run out, you can still put them in there afterwards. I welcome the change, but I don't NEED it.
I get the #1 spot with Timeless Arrows. Screw all the engineers and their ammo. If one in the guild wants to give it to me as he levels it up, fine, but I don't need it to top the charts.

I still think hunters that run out of arrows in raids should be lulled at and raidkicked.
it's preparation just like any other class. and you deserve to be laughed at when you forget, kinda when you laugh at the idiot who forgot to repair.
Locks need soulshards, rogues need poisons.
The difference? none. and hunters, of all people can farm with ridiculous ease. whats that a mob is stopping you from herbing or mining that node? send your pet at it!
it's what comes with the class. you don't want to pay gold for arrows and bullets? don't roll a hunter.

Anyone given a thought to the impact this will have on leatherworkers in terms of utility?
Not much, but it still sucks.
gimme back my drums.

Being a miner/skiner I just farm the mats for Ultrasafe Bullet Machine and have a guild engineer make them! Each machine has 10 charges @ 200 rounds a charge. Just fill your pouch toss in a couple of the machines in your bags and you have 4000 extra rounds in just 2 slots!!! Ammo problem solved!!

The main problem I have isn't bag space. It's the disparity between how much we have to spend to raid efficiently compared to every other single class. We all repair and we all bring consumables, but add in 150g per night just in ammo, it's just something that doesn't need to be in the game. The new mechanic is needed and welcome.

I agree with you that it gets expensive and it's a pain in the ass to keep yourself restocked. When I made my alt hunter I knew full well going into the class that I would be spending big money on ammo. Just like how a tanking class spends big money on repairs, or a priest spends a lot on potions. This is something you know and something you accept when you enter the class. For hunters to be complaining about it now, while they are raiding, shows a lack of foresight on their part.
Just my .02$

Removal of consumable ammunition and quivers from bag slots.
DO WANT!
Plastic Rat Feb 25th 2009 9:48PM
I'm more than happy that we're not going to see it any time soon.
I like my consumable ammo, I'm not bothered by the bag slot that much. For me, for just a little while longer WoW stays closer to an MMORPG and less of a FPS. ...heck, even FPSes have consumable ammo...
The Elitist Jerk Feb 25th 2009 10:06PM
Why am I not surpised?
First trap launcher, next GC will come out from under his rock and say "Sorry guys, ammo removal isn't scheduled until the next expansion and we'll fuck it up one way or another".
Draelan Feb 26th 2009 2:30AM
So many over reactions... Making sure you have enough ammo before a raid is part of standard raid prep. That doesn't mean a hunter should be condemned for forgetting, though, unless they make it a habit.
The ammo change will be nice. Necessary? No. But nice. The cost of arrows isn't that bad. Especially when you take into account the cost of repairs for plate wearers, and the fact us hunters are good at avoiding the extra durability loss since we can feign death when the group wipes. The cost is especially negligible if you have a nice engineering friend or an alt with engineering.
The change is more for convenience. It won't fix a bugged or contrived mechanic (such as pet abilities turning themselves on or off, or the fact traps break when you sneeze on them.) but it's not going to suddenly make the game EZ Mode to the point where you log in and everything instantly dies and gives you loot.
As for this article itself, I think it was a bit pointless. No, larger ammo stacks aren't on the PTR yet. I'm sure there's a lot of things that aren't on the PTR yet. All things in good time, my friend.

I agree with everyone who is against the change! I'm a hunter and I like the fact I need ammo, I would prefer an engineer or lw or someone to be able to make more lower level ammo, however it's easy to stay on top of how much ammo you have! Granted you can lose track, but all the time suggests your really a Warrior who was born on the wrong side of the WoW (maybe a cross between a Quilboar and Rat..who knows). But I am an engineer and use a gun so I can make my own ammo, and as DCoW said, if you don't/can't/refuse to manage your ammo, then simply don't be a hunter. Other classes have to pay a lot or work hard for their place on a raid team, why shouldn't we?
They already have made it so our pets don't need loyalty, next they'll let us where mail from the start and plate at fourty, and before you know it they'll increase the strength. We are a hunter, why do we have to become 'easier'. That's the point of the higher levels, when you get to 80 you know what to do, you know how to farm for money, you know how to keep your character stocked and most of all you know what you need to do to be asked to go to raids etc.

Hunters who tend to run out of ammo on long raids. Try putting a few extra stacks of ammo in ur regular bags and then transfering em over to ur quiver/pouch later in the raid when you are getting low on ammo.
FlipWilson Jun 16th 2009 6:57PM
Why don't they just make a ramdon percentage of ammo used on a mob lootable by the hunter (30-90%) the ramdon 30-90% would keep hunters buying shells/arrows soo engineers wouldn't loose their only real source of income (The only real one I've een able to find any way)
and, It's not like the ammo just disappears when it hits a mob so let the hunter go digging around and find it in 'em XD
