Tier 8 Ulduar weapon models previewed, Val'anyr included

3.1 and Ulduar are coming soon. No doubt a lot of you have been looking forward to seeing what your reward for hacking apart a variety of priceless Titan artifacts and servants of the Old Gods would be. MMO-Champion, as always, has your back! They've released a preview for the weapon and accessory models that'll be in Ulduar, and they look fantastic. The theme of the instance seems to carry through into all of its gear, and I'm going to love just how good my guild and I will look after a bit of time in there.
The image above is a paladin holding one of the Ulduar shields and the much-touted Val'anyr, Gavel of Ancient Kings, and that's just the tip of the iceberg from MMOC, who promises a video of it in action very soon.
Bear in mind these are still tentative models and the art may change, but even then, what are you waiting for? Santa won't get mad if you peek. Go go go!

Wow.
Most of those things are ugly as sit.
I thought Blizz was trying to shy away from "sci-fi" themes.
Very un-impressed.

imo these are some of the coolest ive seen. i dont think its scifi however. it really reminds me of the disney movie Atlantis and all their cool technology.

There are also a ton of new mace icons, I wonder if this means there will be multiple versions of Val'anyr:

Kinda amusing there's already a domain up for it. The hard mode part they mention on the site makes sense for dropping the shards, but I have to wonder if it's a guaranteed drop at that difficulty or still a low drop rate.

Eh, all the weapons look like over-sized kids toys...which would be nice for my nephews if they were real, but they look a little too corny.

Anyone know what pally color goes with what spec yet?

The axes look great, some of the one handed swards are alright. I think the best two are the constellation dagger and the wands are pretty sick. Of course this is all imo. Just can't see my DK running around with those two handed swords. The two handed ax tho...

Anyone else think that legendary item doesn't look...legendary?
lbizzle Feb 25th 2009 4:14PM
Yes. Thunderfury and Warglaives made people stop in their tracks. This doesn't look particularly special.
Don't really care bc I'll never equip it though.

I don't see anything other than the constellation dagger that really intrigues me, but at least most of the artwork is pretty consistent thematically....that is, except for the wand. That wand looks like a design from BC that was left on the cutting room floor. Seriously...no more crystal-topped weapons with that damned little halo (or in this case, halos) around them please. The last think I want to see is anything that even remotely hints at a return of BC style graphics, so I hope the wand gets a redesign.
And flush the big pink glowing hourglass off-hand item down the nearest toilet a.s.a.p., please! Thanks!

If it is a healing mace, the legendary mace needs to have a Use: AoE Rez. THAT would be legendary.

pretty easy to pick out the druid feral staffs in those shots and I have to say im quite pleased, sleek but of course with leaves :P

And so the tradition of non functional goofy looking weapons continues. It was refreshing to see the more traditional fantasy look return after the space crystal crap in TBC, but this seems like a step back to that...

I'm still trying to figure out how the Fragments are Unique (30) but the weapon requires 40 to begin with.

I bet this will break up many a guild. If it is like Aeitish (or however you spell it) and 1 shards has a chance to drop and it only goes to one person. Part of me is glad that it is not available to rogues although part of me would love a Legendary item i could use.
