You may be a Love Fool after all
If you played WoW at all during the Love is in the Air holiday event that ran in early February, then you surely heard the moaning about the meta achievement, Fool For Love, which grants the title, Love Fool.
Whether you wanted to celebrate this month or not, anyone seeking to complete their long and strange trip and acquire the coveted Violet Proto-Drake, had to be a Fool For Love.
One of the requirements was to complete the achievement, Be Mine, which had players running back to old world capital cities, dousing themselves in smelly concoctions, and begging the guards and citizens not to break their hearts.
This gave us one chance per hour at obtaining the elusive Bag of Candies that would allow players ten chances to create, ideally, eight unique candies. The drop rate for the bag was so poor and the holiday so short that people begged Blizzard to improve their chances.
While the drop rate for the bag was increased at the last minute, many people who put in a superb effort still did not acquire their title.
Blizzard has since crunched the numbers, and some great news was handed down by Zarhym that should put everyone's mind at rest. While the Be Mine achievement is not being removed as a requirement for completion of the meta achievement, instead of needing all eight candies, you will only need to have obtained six!
Not only that, but you won't have to wait until next year. As of patch 3.1, all you will need to do is login to be granted your achievement, as well as your title, as long as you had made at least six unique candies.
Many players would still like to see that particular achievement removed from the meta entirely, but Blizzard stands firm that the point of What a Long, Strange Trip it's Been and its reward is to be something that only a dedicated few will earn each year. They aren't about to make it too easy.
If you missed this requirement, will you be getting your title on patch day, or are you still feeling disgruntled?

I love how they stick to "Only a dedicated few" while consistantly nerfing every achievement that people don't like.

3 words for you...
Ignorant
Arrogant
and Stupid
This is all you have? Have you not read how unhappy people are about the random factors that are influencing their goals in game?
This isn't a matter of "Oh, I don't like this one" and Blizzard decided to appease it. It's a matter of a HUGE number of people that didn't get needed results from a random generator.
I could write a huge post explaining, but I don't think it would phase you're ignorant opinion.

I had the title on the day it started, it wasn't difficult nor time consuming.

I got my achievement RIGHT on the wire. Last hour of the event... talk about cliche timing. But the chance was equally there that I could have been screwed over and for what, just ONE candy. That was all I needed, "You're the best" candy.
That event was NOT working as intended. I had a total of 4 bags. My third bag was completely a dud bag. 4 bags over a 5 day event, hmm. You do the math, but there's something wrong here.

The majority of people who earn timesuck achievements like that should be slapped.
First.
Fierymojo Feb 25th 2009 6:37PM
First? you fail
Seedcake Feb 25th 2009 10:44PM
You don't fail for not being first; you fail for firsting, you dirty firster.
Panette Feb 25th 2009 6:39PM
This is great news, but stick a kick in the beans for those of us who spent all week trying AND DIDN'T EVEN GET ON CANDY BAG TO TRY AND MAKE HEARTS WITH.

..or got reamed by the RNG and server lag with the rockets
Enfea Feb 26th 2009 3:42AM
Same here.
Not much use that we only have to make 6 candies when you don't get a single bag to start with.
Petraeus Feb 25th 2009 6:39PM
haha I fail. oh well
Procris Feb 26th 2009 11:38AM
I don't think it really matters if anyone failed this. Yes it was a total annoyance to everyone trying to get it but for most people, brewfest will be the one event that forces you to wait another year before getting the mount.

Humm... That green candy in the middle of the picture looks remarkably like it says "Get Heal"
Jansyu Feb 25th 2009 6:50PM
OMG ... I've "deleted" my 7 candies from my bank in pure disgust at this "crappy" achieve which caused me all sorts of grief, particularly the last 12 hours of it - no sleep, alarm every hour, just so I could log in and get a gift !
does this mean I won't get my meta?
waaaaaaaaaaa
dfgreat1 Feb 25th 2009 6:54PM
you should still get it, look at your achievement status, it should show what you had
JPN Feb 25th 2009 6:54PM
You just had to make the candies from your bag.
Dusseldorf Feb 25th 2009 7:01PM
You'll still get it, the achievement records them as soon as you create them.
VSUReaper Feb 25th 2009 7:06PM
You should still get it.
On that note, I will get it!!!
Jansyu Feb 25th 2009 8:36PM
tx all, I didn't look at my achieve record for this event, it was just too sad :) I will tonight tho !

To be frank, I think this is one of the more annoying things Blizzard has done in a long time.. The fact that you need to be level 80 to get the achievement is pathetic, I managed to get ALL the Love is in the air achievement, except "I pitied the fool", because I am not level 80, thus not able to zone in to Naxx. So they nerf the achievement so that the little whiners who didn't get a candy bag can get the achievement, but the hard working people who spent alot of time (or were lucky) to actually gett he candy can still not get the achievement if they arent level 80. /rant off
