Hearthstones down to 30 minute cooldown in patch 3.1
Alright, so they killed ghetto hearthing. Blizzard never intended the instance boot system to be used as means to travel back to one's home city while Hearthstones were on cooldown, so they're setting things right in Patch 3.1 by making it port players to the nearest graveyard, instead. Naturally, this sparked outrage amongst the instance-abusing community and some players demanded Blizzard to make up for the loss of one of the most frequently used means of travel.
Eyonix was quick to shut down these arguments in a long thread but eventually capitulated to the will of the masses, announcing that Hearthstones would be usable every 30 minutes when Patch 3.1 goes live. Eyonix still doesn't quite understand what the fuss is all about, though, and points to mage portals, Dalaran portals, and good old mount riding as acceptable means of getting from point A to point B. He even dismisses the complaints as QQ at one point. That said, it looks like some QQ has won the day for now. Enjoy your 30 minute hearthstones, everyone.

I wouldn't say Lazy.
Everytime I am in trade looking for a port no one will reply. It takes forever for a mage to get off his butt to get paid to port me.
So not lazy. Just in a hurry.

I really don't think this is so much about getting back to Dalaran - it'll be more helpful for speeding up levelling through vanilla & BC content.
@ Daniel, last time I looked people leaving WoW to "play another game" didn't make Blizzard any money - I'm fairly sure that would be a factor in the reduction in HS cooldown.
Also, if you don't care one way or another, yet are sick of Blizzard changing stuff to please the QQ - I'd suggest YOU go play another game, as it's in Blizzard's best interest to keep the majority of it's subscribers happy.

@ warren
Well its nice to know your view of mages is they all are sitting around doing nothing bar waiting to provide you with a transport service. We have a game to play too you know. I have NEVER had a problem getting a port within about 1 min. All you have to do it LOOK for one in the city your in, and POLITELY ask, offering a fee/tip. Ive never had to ask more than 3 - on my pally alt - as my main IS a mage i know this from BOTH sides. Oh and dont just say - 'i gotta rune u can do it for free now' - cos lets face it - you want someone to run about to save you time, at least tip the guy thats take time out from HIS game to help you with yours.
Similarly to all those ppl who want enchants. FFS please please please TELL us, what chant, if you have mats, and the fee/tip your gonna pay. Most chanters i know DONT reply to LF CHANTER, because were so sodding fed up of getting to whichever far flung city you happen to be in, and finding out you needed the mats, or getting there for him to expect free chanting, which ends up COSTING us, time and money.
Personally i have little patience to sell my skills anymore. People expect you to run around for them, for 1-2g max, and tbh you get far more grinding a daily which takes less time. So PLEASE try to make it easy for the poor souls still trying to make a buck that way by including ALL the infomation in your /2 spam.

Honestly?
Can't recall ever doing it on purpose. If my HS is on cooldown I don't hop a portal out of Dalaran (or formerly Shatterath). For me, managing my HS cooldown is just something I've been used to doing for a long time now.
I don't see what the fuss is about really... not that I mind a shorter cooldown, will come in handy levelling my Warrior.
Evi Feb 26th 2009 11:13PM
Same here. I can't recall even once "ghetto hearthing". The change doesn't really bother me one way or another. I've been used to managing my hearthstone timer for years now.
Wubble69 Feb 27th 2009 4:49AM
Absolutely with you on this one.
I've never found it a problem in the 4 years I've been playing. It's been a set enviromental limitation and I have worked with the system and managed to play the game just fine.
This is the first of the changes that has made the "are they making? the game to easy" thought has popped into my head.
jaxson_bateman Feb 26th 2009 9:31PM
Whilst I ghetto-hearthed with incredible frequency in BC (you'd go to Org to buy some enchanting mats, have your hearth on CD for w/e reason, and then ghetto hearth back to Shatt), seeing as I've got the Kirin Tor ring (the Signet) I haven't done it once in Wrath.
Regardless of what happens to hearthstones, it's one piece of gear I'll likely never DE due to that powerful teleport.
Ryuker Feb 26th 2009 9:32PM
Oh HELL yes. This has been long overdue.
Amaxe Feb 26th 2009 9:34PM
Hey! What about us Shamans? We should get our Astral Recall shortened too!!!
J/K... sometimes even we need to use the hearthstone. I have no problems with this
misterfred22 Feb 27th 2009 3:42AM
Was thinking the same thing - Astral every 5 or 10 min would rock!
Angus Feb 27th 2009 7:57AM
It's glyphed to 7.5 minutes. I find myself setting a hearth just so I could go back and sell stuff if my bag was full while leveling.
Cause I can.
The hearthstone was meant for when content took an hour or more to finish. LBRS/UBRS, Mara, WC. With content taking a much more tidy time and the nutty amount of cross-continent hopping (caverns of time are often where people ghetto hearth after a drake run) a 30 minute timer is much better. Astral Recall could use to be shorter though.
Then again, pretty much half our minor glyphs should have been part of the base spell. Warlock already have no reagent, AND they swim faster with the glyph. DKs can get the entire party water walking without a reagent or even dismounting.

Good lord. Fix the pet cower bug before this.....nonsense.
slartibart Feb 27th 2009 12:01AM
Haven't seen these stupid cower whines in awhile.
Do you honestly think that they're purposely ignoring the cower bug?
Or that it's just something that's a simple fix, like changing a static value (60=>30) I'd be inclined to think that since it's been acknowledged, and several blues have admitted having hunters and being annoyed by it as well; that it may a little trickier than just "fixing".
Thanks for reminding me how annoying the cower qq was though.
Chris Feb 27th 2009 6:16AM
Point I was trying to make was I can think of other things that could be addressed. Plenty of ways to get around WoW and reach your destination. But then, I remember the days when there were fewer flightpoints etc.
cronos1212 Feb 27th 2009 8:36AM
Yes, the cower bug is sooo important... It should definitely be fixed before the vanish bug that has existed before time itself....
Dotixi Feb 26th 2009 9:38PM
Remember when WoW took effort to play?
Up next the official Blizzard WoW Glider.
Aquillian Feb 27th 2009 1:41AM
It takes effort to stare at your computer for 10 minutes while waiting for your FP to finish? Wow, news to me. >_> I love when people equate effort to time spent. Sorry, but waiting for your hearth to cool down does /not/ take effort, and neither does taking a flightpath. I say that as someone who did not ghetto hearth or particularly mind waiting for my hearth to cool off, mind you -- I just get tired of people trying to say that waiting for things to happen is a matter of effort put into the game.
Amaxe Feb 26th 2009 9:46PM
For once I have to agree with Blizzard. The ghetto hearth really wasn't meant to be for hearthing. it seems like it was made so you didn't invite and kick friends and end up 20-manning a 5 man instance.
They didn't need to give anything, though i will take it.
xenothaulus Feb 26th 2009 9:46PM
Is it really that hard to fly back to Dalaran? If you're not smart enough to park an alt in Org or SW for your AH needs, you should have your hearth taken away altogether. Otherwise, it's not that freaking hard to exit the instance and fly home.
Kolo Feb 26th 2009 10:02PM
Or...people play the game to have fun, not sitting on a flight for 10 minutes.
