Breakfast Topic: Most frustrating moment
The vast majority of the time, WoW is just pure fun to play, and even nights spent wiping on a boss can be an oddly happy experience if you're running with a cool group of people and you feel like you're making progress. But we've all had that moment in a raid or a group where you realize that things have unstoppably taken a turn for the worse, and that there's not much (if anything) you can do about it.I've actually had two of these in recent memory: being within one perfect Kel'Thuzad kill of server-first Immortal and then losing a single player to the second Frost Blast, and then having to call a Sarth 3D kill because people seemed to find an array of new and interesting ways to get themselves killed. The silence in vent on both occasions was pretty awful, and that these two nights occurred back to back probably didn't help anyone's frame of mind. I've had a Hunter buddy previously describe her worst moment as triggering the old Karazhan pet bug -- wherein you could aggro almost everything in the instance due to bizarre pet pathing mechanics -- when she was a trial member with a new guild. A Warlock friend still cringes when he thinks about the night he accidentally looted the Champion gloves off Curator, and then having to keep the group there for two hours while we waited on a ticket (back before any of us knew how loot transfers worked). Sometimes you realize the night's just going to stay bad, and that it's time to get out of Dodge. What was your worst experience in this vein?

I haven't had any particularily frustrating moments in WotLK yet, but I do remember trying to down Vashj in BC.... we wiped for nights on end, and we were at the point where we saw phase 3 very regularly. -.- We had started raiding later than most guilds, so the 'lolpatch' rolled out before we had a chance to down her for 'real'. We got her right after the patch, but it would have been nice to get her before.

If you ever needed reminding that PuG's can be horrific...
25 Man Sarth. It all goes like clockwork, and Sarth goes down first try. Lots of happy people (many with achievement) including the Leader, who celebrated by taking ALL the loot and then logging immediately afterwards.
Remember kids; PuG's can be Dangerous. Always check your Raid Leader before proceeding...

The one good thing about playing on a server with a low population and a tiny Horde population is that nobody ever ninjas in PUGs as word spreads very quickly and no-one will ever PUG with you again.

Most frustrating time for me was when I was first running The Nexus with my tankadin shortly after the release of the expansion. With a group of 70 - 72 characters fresh out of Outland, it was quite challenging and we probably wiped 4 or 5 times. We got to Keristrasza and I filled everyone in about the moving/jumping trick to the fight. The healer refused to do it. Flat out refused to move while healing.
We tried 2 or 3 times but we kept wiping. Everyone got a little emotional in stressing the absolute need to move during the fight, but she was having none of it. It was 2am on a week night at this point, so we couldn't PuG a new healer. We basically threw in the towel and had to do it all again at the weekend. I didn't have a good day at work after that.

First time on KT, my guild took him to 0.8%. Tryed like 8 times more on that night. And well, we didn't make it! That's just annoyingly frustrating!

The only frustrating moments in wow have been related to playing in a group of 10 or more. WoW is a blast until you get in a raid guild then the fun factor drops to about a 2 or 3.

While I agree that the most frustrating moments typically come while raiding, some of the best moments also come in raiding. Some of the more positive (or funny) experiences:
-Watching a Tank who just got done saying how much he hates spiders pull the Arachnid Quarter for the first time (and not telling him about the webbing).
-Fighting for a few nights working on a boss and finally getting him down.
-Frogger... waiting for the inevitable "OMG, I was nowhere near that thing!"
-Ventrilo.. while not part of the game, the reason I play this game is because of the guild I'm in. Most Vent conversations while raiding are priceless.
Raiding can be very frustrating, but for me it is also very rewarding. I'll take the frustrations with the things I enjoy anyday.

Trying to do Sons of Hodir dailies during peak hours.
I've given up on it completely and now only do them very, very late at night or very early in the morning on the weekends. I find them pretty much impossible to do on my weekday schedule.

Pre-3.o, my guild was on one of it's many attempts at archimonde. People didn't seem to understand that fire was bad and that you could use the tears to slow fall, but you had to be smart about it.
Then one attempt, it finally seemed that everyone got it. We were too the point where the Raid Leader was working out who had Heroism when Archie suddenly gained a soul charge. It seems one of our hunters Cratered (again) and we wiped at 17%.
Our Raid Leader broke his mic so he wouldn't scream over vent. Needless to say, that was our last attempt for awhile.

Most Frustrating moment would be the first time, I did karazhan.
I was a healer and i had for some reason a very wonky internet that night resulting in many a disconnect. Alas wipes followed because for some reason the "newb shammy' wasn't healing.
I was both ashamed and frustrated that night and felt that i would never get a run of it again. Thankfully i have a fairly forgiving guild but stress about would-be internet problems and Lag still keep me on edge to this day.
Irshalthra Feb 27th 2009 9:30AM
That is frustrating - I bet you worry every time you step into an instance now.
Vassal Feb 27th 2009 8:33AM
My worst experience was the fabled and ever annoying Shade of Aran in Karazhan. When it first was released, our guild was the fastest to progress. Unfortunately our efforts were halted as server-first due to my moving during Flame Wreath. We wiped, and my GL said it's okay, try again.
However, nobody was paying ANY attention to their DBM or listening to what the GM said, so we wiped 5 more times until the GL said "Okay, that's it. You all fail."
So after ganking the bank, the guild leader disbanded the guild and was soon banned afterwards for buying gold from Chinese gold farmers. Making fun of that GM in Trade chat became the Shattered Halls phenomenon.
TERU Feb 27th 2009 8:38AM
Last week after getting everyone in our guild through 10man Maly we decided that the guild was ready for 25man. and our first 3 attempts were promissing getting to the 3rd stage with 3-4minutes left on enrage. but it seemed no one was listening to the directions of our raid leader and we wiped atleast a dozen times. after the GM called it they decided to go do sarth +2d and guess what? my hands droped.... last piece i need for full valorous. and i missed it because of work. LAME

the worst that i ever had was tanking a H-Underbog on my druid. It was a pug where i came in as the tank for some progression guild on my server. Being kara geared it should have been fine, but with one of the dps was doing a poor job at multi boxing the healer and the other two dps outgearing me to the point where they were always pulling aggro. we wiped soooooo many times it wasn't funny :(
schm0 Feb 27th 2009 10:05PM
Thats why multi-boxing sucks... in the end it's all about the human on the other end stretching his own abilities across multiple characters.

I tried killing Anub'Arak in Heroic Azjol Nerub with at least 5 different groups before I was finally able to do it. I think I've spent more frustrating evenings on this one boss than any other place in WOTLK.
I still think there's some kind of bug with his Pound ability that prevents a player from escaping from it in any way. We kept losing one of our dps to that so we couldn't finish the third wave of adds before their poison killed us.
Funny thing is, the time we did kill him it seemed terribly easy, and he dropped my belt, so all the pain was worth it.
Jeramy Feb 27th 2009 12:19PM
So many people complain about Anub'arak. And yes, while he's hard... seems like every time I go to help a guildie in a pug, they can't get past the first boss.
