Breakfast Topic: Most frustrating moment
The vast majority of the time, WoW is just pure fun to play, and even nights spent wiping on a boss can be an oddly happy experience if you're running with a cool group of people and you feel like you're making progress. But we've all had that moment in a raid or a group where you realize that things have unstoppably taken a turn for the worse, and that there's not much (if anything) you can do about it.I've actually had two of these in recent memory: being within one perfect Kel'Thuzad kill of server-first Immortal and then losing a single player to the second Frost Blast, and then having to call a Sarth 3D kill because people seemed to find an array of new and interesting ways to get themselves killed. The silence in vent on both occasions was pretty awful, and that these two nights occurred back to back probably didn't help anyone's frame of mind. I've had a Hunter buddy previously describe her worst moment as triggering the old Karazhan pet bug -- wherein you could aggro almost everything in the instance due to bizarre pet pathing mechanics -- when she was a trial member with a new guild. A Warlock friend still cringes when he thinks about the night he accidentally looted the Champion gloves off Curator, and then having to keep the group there for two hours while we waited on a ticket (back before any of us knew how loot transfers worked). Sometimes you realize the night's just going to stay bad, and that it's time to get out of Dodge. What was your worst experience in this vein?

When running Kara for the first time, we were in the hall with all the mana elementals, after curator and I accidentally pulled a buttload of them with my pet. Then shortly after that we were going up the ramp to Illhoof and I got too close and pulled one of the platforms while everyone else was buffing up. Ya, I felt like a tard.

I have a small list.
1) PvP. I'm specced raid FFB, and have no business taking on players in any situation. Unfortunatly I'm on a PvP server, where jerks decide it's great fun to corpse camp the squishy mage.
2) Thaddius. Running 25naxx with pugs who don't understand the concept of charges isn't fun.
3) PuGs. Was in a group with a DPS DK that kept death gripping Sarth. Seriously.

25-man Vault of Archavon pickup group.
The raid leader and his assistants were grabbing people to fill spots, and wanted to make sure that no one was saved to the instance to avoid complications. There were constant raid warnings and ready checks ("PRESS YES ONCE YOU HAVE CHECKED YOUR LOCKOUT STATUS", etc.) and we went in.
This group ripped through the Archavon Warders like they were wet tissue paper; we downed the last one and then realized there was no Archavon the Stone Watcher.
There was an insane chorus of WTF in the raid channel -- people angrily demanding who had screwed the group -- when someone spoke up. Yes, everyone had checked their ready status EXCEPT THE RAID LEADER. I _wish_ I was making this up.

For future reference, have one unsaved person zone in (someone who doesn't necessarily care about the instance - I only PuG 10 man as we do 25 in guild, but seeing as in 10 man all I want are the badges and Grand Black War Mammoth that person is usually me), and after they zone in they check their raid status.
If they're not saved, they give the all clear. If they get saved, they quickly tell the rest of the group that someone in the raid group is 'tainted'.

My main cause of frustration are PuGs that don't know that the fsck they are doing. Notible examples include people that don't understanc the concepts of charges on the Thadduis fight, and the DPS DK that kept death gripping Sarth.

I'm not sure anyone can top my annoying moment. After having spent, I dunno, an eternity in Storm Peaks trying to find that ever elusive drake I gave up only to go back a few days later to do the polar bear quest and there he was flying along the canyon at Bors Breath.
So I flew straight at him, got aggro, pulled him down to the ground, tapped him and it was basically in the bag when out of no where (and keep in mind this is about 4am) 3 different allies appear, one of them CCs me while another taunts the drake and pulls it out of range then the other 2 kill me.
I desperatly flew back in the vain hope that it was still tapped only to find a human ret pally hovering there on his yellow proto drake.

Healing with 4 Deathknight in the group
Buundox Feb 27th 2009 12:24PM
We were going for Undying and were on KT without any deaths. The adds were picked up, and the healers were mindful of ice tombs. We got KT down to 5%, 4%, 3%... then I see our shaman healer making sure the tank doesn't die not see the fissure spawn underneath him. 0%. KT dead. No achievement/title. I look at my raid frames and see that shaman dead. /sigh.
The next reset, again on KT without any deaths. Bam, someone dies to an ice tomb. /sigh.
I haven't attempted an Undying run since, haha.

I witness my most frustrating moments everyday....
Deathgrip in PvP....
The one spell that has effectively removed ranged class strategy in the game and makes me an instant/free HK whenever a deathknight enters the frey.....sigh....I never though one exploitive spell could remove the last bit of fun factor from pvp.
My other most frustrating moment was getting in a lore argument with some guy on trade chat who refused to believe that the undead/forsaken were former members alliance (y'know....they were all lordaeron citizens before being killed by the scourge). I think he was just so dulled by horde pride that he refused to accept that fact, heh. I should have just put the guy on ignore, but I just can't stand those kind of people who just absolutely HAVE to have the last word.
And as for instances, I was lvl 72 pug healing a nexus run. the tank had almost no tanking gear, and was squishy as heck. Normal mobs were tearing him down just as fast as any non-tanking class. He just simply did not have the damage mitigation. I was half T6 geared so I thought it would be no problem, but it proved more....well.... challanging then I thought. I had to spam nothing but holy light just to keep him up, (like every trash pull was like trying to solo heal patchwerk) After about our 3rd or 4th wipe from various trash, I was kicked from the group, with thier last words being "sorry, we need to find a better healer." I was furious. They refused to believe it was the tank's fault. at the moment to the point i just respecced ret for the remainder of my leveling....I could only imagine the suffering the next healer went through.

I hate Death Grip and Chains of Ice so much that I save my PvP trinket, Escape Artist, and Blink all for the inevitable "yoink" from a DK when I'm in Wintergrasp or a BG.
I may be a squishy target, but by God I make them work for that kill. I've been able to kite more than one DK long enough for my teammates to dogpile on him or her.

This is more funny than frustrating, but...
I ran heroic Culling of Stratholme for the first time just last night. I'd only done regular CoS once, but I was in a good group and people were willing to go.
I had at least two achievements I could complete on that run -- Heroic: Culling of Stratholme and Timear Foresees -- and we were blowing through the bosses so fast that we were going to have plenty of time for the Infinite Corruptor, which would be a third achievement.
We get to the Corruptor, down him with 45 seconds to spare, and we all roll on the Reins of the Bronze Drake. The hunter in the group wins the roll; I was slightly bummed as it would have been an awesome end to the run to get 3 achievements plus the drake, but as a general rule I don't stress out on gear or drops. No big deal.
The hunter says on Vent "Oh geez man, I'm sorry." Others start laughing and expressing amazement. I ask him what he's talking about, then I look at the rolls for the Bronze Drake.
The hunter rolled a 100. I rolled a 99.
I took a screenshot to prove it because I knew no one would believe me:

One of the players in my last guild suffered from "just-shortitis". Every time a rare or special mount dropped, he'd lose by 1. Our first successful ZA timed run - he rolls 99. I roll 100. It sucked for him, but it was kinda fair given I was the MT. =P Then Brewfest. He rolls around 90 for the Kodo. A really bad hunter rolls something like 95. You'd think it couldn't get worse, but then we get to Hallow's End, where we proceed to see the Headless Horseman's mount. He gets another 99. The only 'bad' player in the group rolls 100.

Before the 3.0.8 patch that dropped the money loot from bosses, the girlfriend and I were going to do our first "quick money" run on Onyxia. (Her being a pre-nerf BM Hunter and me being a Feral-tank drood, both fairly fresh 80's and mostly quest greens or blues).
After two wipes and finally figuring out Onyxia's mechanic, we made our third attempt. I mistimed a barkskin and frenzied regen, leaving me waiting for self-heal cooldowns. With maybe 5-10% left, I ended up dying. The gf flicked the growl on for her pet and kept going.
I released, knowing I would have enough time to get back and help finish off the fight. What I didn't know is that you couldn't get back into the instance after releasing (unlike some other instances). So I ended up missing out on the loot and achievement.
Le sigh.
Darthregis Feb 27th 2009 12:05PM
Oh yeah. CoS gauntlet with Arthas running way ahead of the group you're killing and aggro'ing everything.
If only letting him die would be a viable option.

10 Heigan wipes with a dumbass PUG.

I'm mostly a solo player so I don't have many frustrating group stories. By far my most frustrating moment in recent memory has been trying to tame a Spirit Beast. At least with instances you can find solace in the fact that with better communication, coordination and strategy you can improve and overcome your obstacle. Hunting the Spirit Beast is pure dumb luck.
There's very little you can do to increase your chances. Strategy? Fly around Sholazar for a few hours a day for a couple of weeks. Hopefully you'll eventually be in the right place at the right time. If he spawns on the opposite of the map and someone kills/tames him there's no way for you to know and you'll keep on wasting your time flying around in circles.
Blizzard, I understand what you were going for with the Spirit Beast. You want an ultra rare pet. I get it, but if you're going to do that, can you at least make the process of getting that pet a little more interesting? Flying around the same zone for dozens of hours is not interesting gameplay. Heck, at the very least you can let us know that the spirit beast was killed or tamed somehow while we're online. Something like a zone wide emote "Loque'Nahak lets out a cry as he feels his life slipping away" or something like that. At least then we can quit for the night and go do something else.
Stephanie Mar 1st 2009 12:05AM
I'm pretty convinced that Loque knows when you're looking for him (and refuses to show), so I quit the hardcore hunt and would do two zone passes a day, before and after doing the Oracle dailies.
I got him a little under a week ago. During my pass I saw King Krush, so I ran back to unstable my pet, killed him, got Northern Exposure achievement. Restabled pet, continued my pass for kicks, and, right at the western gorilla spawn point, there was Loque. Tamed him less than five minutes after killing Krush. O_o
I'm pretty sure I used up all my good karma for the next month that day. Got Krush, Loque, the Higher Learning Achievement, Champion of the Frozen Wastes, and the critter and pest achievements. Yoinks.

I was really high and was leading a 10 Naxx. Both Hatestrike and the SP dagger drop off Patch, and i accidentally gave the dagger to the warrior that won and Hatestrike to the mage.
They all got their items, but I felt like an idiot.

Running 25man VoA and getting excited because you finally see a hunter drop (the pvp gloves), which you win. And then being so happy about finally winning some lewt (any loot), you completely miss rolling for your 7.5 chestpiece. D:

This just happened less than an hour ago and I"m still angry. My guild has been casually farming ZG for the mounts, thinking it would be cool if all the members of the guild were sporting a rare tiger or raptor mount.
Today the raptor finally dropped. And the priest, who was there for the first time, rolled NEED instead of greed. I was so angry I had to leave, something I've rarely done before.
