Breakfast Topic: Most frustrating moment
The vast majority of the time, WoW is just pure fun to play, and even nights spent wiping on a boss can be an oddly happy experience if you're running with a cool group of people and you feel like you're making progress. But we've all had that moment in a raid or a group where you realize that things have unstoppably taken a turn for the worse, and that there's not much (if anything) you can do about it.I've actually had two of these in recent memory: being within one perfect Kel'Thuzad kill of server-first Immortal and then losing a single player to the second Frost Blast, and then having to call a Sarth 3D kill because people seemed to find an array of new and interesting ways to get themselves killed. The silence in vent on both occasions was pretty awful, and that these two nights occurred back to back probably didn't help anyone's frame of mind. I've had a Hunter buddy previously describe her worst moment as triggering the old Karazhan pet bug -- wherein you could aggro almost everything in the instance due to bizarre pet pathing mechanics -- when she was a trial member with a new guild. A Warlock friend still cringes when he thinks about the night he accidentally looted the Champion gloves off Curator, and then having to keep the group there for two hours while we waited on a ticket (back before any of us knew how loot transfers worked). Sometimes you realize the night's just going to stay bad, and that it's time to get out of Dodge. What was your worst experience in this vein?

I was super frustrated when I lost a roll on the Blue Proto-Drake in UP to a DK who didn't have any flying at all.

Wait, how does loot transfer work? I've always had to wait for a ticket as well. Can someone reply with an explanation or link to one?

Had a few, but the one currently coming to mind would be filling in on a Hyjal run with what I believed to be a guild of nice people. I was running around trying to top off people while we waited for everyone who was stupid enough to release to run back in. Didn't not even realize I was near the small sphere that represented the bosses body and for some reason clicking healbot looted. Did not pick up anything except my badge, but it did mean that everyone there had to pass so the outside people could get a chance for gear. Hearing the yell across vent from the raid leader was bad enough. But the 20 'you a-hole' tells that quickly followed before I could even apologize and explain what happened was almost enough to make me leave the raid. Accidents happen. Making someone feel like a complete piece of crap because you have to press 'pass' and wait a few minutes was not worth running with those people ever again.
Next one that comes to mind, having a weird account wide instance lockout on my guild's first 'old school raid' night and not getting to go see Molten Core and get the achievement there. After spending time that day getting attuned for it and helping another guild member get attuned as well, not being able to go on any toon was frustrating to say the least.

Mine isn't a personal frustration, but rather my husband's. We both play, but I was in the middle of a few months of downtime to take some night classes. This was post-BC, and I left my highest level toon at 62. I had never had the experience of running heroics for loot.
My husband's main was a 70 hunter. He had pugged a group to get the Beast Lord Helm in Mech, as he'd been collecting all the set pieces. The plan for the group was to run another heroic after Mech, to get a different set piece for one of the other 4 players.
It was after midnight, and I was sleeping so I could get up for work in the morning. He ran Mech and was on Vent—talking quietly. This wasn't his first run through Mech to get that helm, so he was desparate for it to drop.
He woke me up once about halfway through the dungeon. I basically walked into the office and gave him a stern glare, and he went back to being quiet. He even shut the office door. He promised he wouldn't wake me up again.
I really need my sleep in order to function during the day...
...so when the Beast Lord Helm dropped, on this 30th run (or so) through Mech, my husband yelled with excitement. Waking me up. I was so upset (and still groggy) that I decided the best course of action would be to let him think I was still asleep, and unplug our cable modem.
To the rest of the pug, it looked like he had just taken the gear he wanted and left instead of staying to help with the next run. He set things right with them later, but it was frustrating for him when it happened. Now it's just hilarious.

Recently dinged 70 back in BC.
Mage.
First night with a kara group that had brought me in.
Sitting by Aran waiting for a few people collecting books.
I hit int button to buff. Then, I remember int hotkey was recently changed to the blink hotkey.
DBM: "Shade of Aran Engaged. Good luck, and have fun." OH CRAP.
I now no longer change key mapping right before a raid.

When people can't do the safety dance on their second try... or third... or fourth, etc. I can see how it would be hard the first time you ever did it, but c'mon its not that hard. I've been in PuGs and even guild runs where the same few people die every single time and we end up either wiping or having to 3 man the boss down.
One raid I was in even had someone put down smoke bombs for people to move to when the dance started. It was just sad.

Heigan continues to be a constant source of frustration for me. I am really not an idiot. I have no problems with Frogger, or Sarth's lava waves, or the eyestalk corridor on the way to Loatheb, or Grobb's gas clouds, and am capable of safely crossing in Thaddius without zapping anyone. In general, those places that tend to claim a few lives every time, or things that require timing or quick reactions are really not an issue for me.
But Heigan is the only boss I will usually die on. What makes it even more frustrating is the fact that the erupti0n that kills me always looks like it was somewhere else altogether.

One time i went to a PUG kara run and didn't even make it to Attumen, the first boss, after two hours of wiping on trash.

I was pugged by a guild to join them in tempest keep as I had run some Kara with their guild and was decent. It was my first venture into 25-man territory right after TK lost it's attunment. Unfortunatly my internet and computer where both very, very crappy. (usually 2 fps and 4,000ms in kara, but it was doable) I was called in for the High Astromancer Solarian and promtly wiped the group 3 times because my frame rate was around 1, by the time DBM showed that I had the debuff it was too late, even when it seemed I was out of range the high ms fooled me and killed the raid.
Later when I got a better connection and computer I joined a new guild that was progressing through TK. When we got to High Astromancer Solarian for the first time I was a nervous wreck. My dps was crap as all I could think of was my first time fighting her and I can't kill the raid. We one shot her and when I became the bomb I easily got out of range, but that whole thing sucked, I've never been that much of a wreck for any game.

Up way to late, we decide to run Heroic VH.. We clear up to the first boss like clock work, everything perfect, We get the first boss down to 5% then slowly and painfully, one at a time begin to die I'm the first one to go, followed instantly by the Priest, by this point, the Tank is topped off, and he and the remaining Melee DPS are swinging furiously...3%...2% Both Melee dps'ers keel over dead at nearly the same time, 1%... Tank eats a crit and dies, Wipe.. done.
What made it really bad was that we repeated this exact same sequence of events 4 more times before giving up.
Just wasn't our night. :(

Hex Lord Malacross in Zul'Aman was really frustrating. He'd consecrate for heavy damage, or mind control (making our lock banish our tree healer), or heal himself after fearing us, etc etc. And of course his random adds. And his spirit bolts. Great fight, but wow.
Thaddius 25-man. Serious. A lot of people couldn't seem to figure out the negative/postive, right/left, red/blue thing. And I don't mean our first attempts. I mean, EVER. Colours and shapes! Like a fellow guildie whispered to me "yeah, kindergarten was really hard :P".
Heigan's dance. I am a fail rogue and I never live through this. I realize that is lame of me. If you want your Immortal title, don't take me! :D
And finally, that last boss in Oculus. I don't remember his name because I've only gone there once and never again! Again, I realize it's my own lameness that makes this boss hard, which makes it even more frustrating. Heh.

Hmmm would have to be either wiping time after time on Shade of Aran because someone moved during flame wreath, or being told my Mage with SP over 1k and had cleared kara, gruuls and mags was still to undergeared to run H Mech

My biggest frustration is more an accumulation of moments -- I'm sick of mage loot dropping when I'm playing my hunter, and I'm sick of hunter loot dropping when I play my mage. I know Blizzard has tried to improve this with the changes in Wrath, making gear more universal, but still the cloth drops when I'm on the wrong character. :(
ShadowMagus Feb 28th 2009 5:14AM
This is why it's my guild's policy (and we make sure it's clear to any puglies we have with us) to roll Need on rare mount drops. Just so there's no mixups like that.
ShadowMagus Feb 28th 2009 5:15AM
Grr, that was supposed to be a reply to #99.

Had a brilliant one in a recent 25 man Naxx PuG.
Grand Widow. Due to serious ineptness, no-one could dispel the enrage, so the tanks took a serious beating. We wiped...
With Grand Widow having 930hp remaining. And thats not a typo.
930hp.
Argh!

So I got plenty of personal screwups in raids. Usually from switchin specs or being called into a new fight and asked to offspec(tank) somethin. TK. Pheonix boss fight. Told to grab adds. I proceed to top of ramp and no one catches this. Ugh raid wipes I respec holy we win. 2weeks later I tank them again no issues.
I've recently started MTing for guildie alt runs with my 3/5 Val gear. MT 10Naxx/10/25Sarth 2D, did less is more 1D. So now comes less is more 10 maly. No problems rite? WRONG. I suddenly get a brain fart and forget my tps rotation. 2k tps = fail agianst 5 guildies doin 4-6k dps. We pull in 2 random healers, respect to dpsers and go again get to 3 and healers not in vent, wipe. Check recount, healers doing 1k hps ugh. Both healz refuse to listen to advice and can't figure out vent. Run out rogue pulls maly, end of problem, raid morale reboosted. Vent ringing with the sound of evil laughter. Lolz.
