The Queue: Vanilla Coke edition
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.Hey, everybody! How's your Friday afternoon so far? Mine is full of rain and Vanilla Coke. Mmm. Delicious Vanilla Coke. You know, I'm definitely a Mountain Dew man, and Voltage is my lifeblood, but some days you just want something else. I couldn't drink Vanilla Coke every day, but cracking one open now and then? Caffeinated heaven.* Now, if I can just find my dentures, I'll start answering your questions...
Hellscreamy asked...
A few days ago I read in one of the posts that Noblegarden would be getting new achievements, items and events. Is there any indication at the moment (PTR or otherwise) that this will count towards the 'What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been' achievement?
I just hopped onto the PTR to check this, and Noblegarden hasn't been added to What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been at all. That achievement still only requires To Honor One's Elders, For The Children, Brewmaster, Merrymaker, Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Flame Warden, and Fool For Love. No changes.
naota asked...
Has there been any information released as to whether Ulduar will be a 10, 25, or 40 man raid?
Like all raids in Wrath of the Lich King, it's going to come in 10 and 25 man flavors. 40 mans are dead, and as far as we know they are never coming back. When you have your dungeon difficulty set to Normal, the raid will be in its 10 man flavor, and will only let 10 people zone in. When you flip difficulty over to Heroic, it will be a 25 man raid.
Nick asked...
Are there any plans for more 5-mans?
We can hope that there are, but we don't know of any additional 5-mans they plan on implementing in Wrath of the Lich King. I know it's a lot to ask considering they only have so many developers, but I'd personally like to see a new 5-man added alongside every new raid like they did with Magisters' Terrace and Sunwell Plateau. Patch 2.4 was probably the most well-rounded patch they've done. A raid, a 5-man, and progressive solo content on a large scale. I give them huge props for that, but the downside to it is that it has set my expectations really, really high.
I'm a raider at heart, but I love all aspects of the game. Raiding, 5-mans, solo content, PvE, PvP, RP, the whole deal. I like seeing new, harder 5-man dungeons, but they rarely ever come around. I think that more new 5-mans would be a great idea, even if that meant one or two less dungeons at an expansion's release.
As far as we know, though, they have no plans to do this. If they ever add a new 5-man during Wrath, you can bet we'll be all over it. Until then, we have no indication that they'll be adding anymore until the next expansion.
Rowan asked...
Are the Argent Tournament racial mounts replacing the old racial mounts - or will there be racial (exalted rep) mounts and racial (Argent Tournament) mounts?
Nothing is replacing anything. They're new mounts added to the factions but acquired somewhat differently. Currently, the new mounts don't cost gold at all. You buy them from quartermasters on the Tournament grounds, one for each faction, using a currency you earn through questing called Champion's Seals. Currently, I don't think anybody on the PTR is capable of earning those tokens yet, so we don't know how quickly you acquire them. Mounts cost 100 tokens, though. The armor and weapons that the quartermasters offer cost anywhere from 10 to 25 tokens. The vanity pets cost 40 tokens, banners cost 15, tabards cost 50, and the Argent Hippogryph (a flying mount) costs 250 tokens.
When we have more information on how to acquire tokens, WoW Insider will be looking into it all more in-depth. Keep an eye out.
*I didn't get paid for saying this, but if someone wants to give me money for it, I won't say no. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

The Kingdom of Gilneas is beyond that wall. Being a lore noob, I dont have much information beyond that, but I would think if they ever have a Maelstrom expansion, it would be a good time to incorporate the rest of that peninsula. Even after the horde has taken over Silverpine, they could just say that that wall was what kept them safe from it.
AyaJulia Feb 27th 2009 5:11PM
There's a colony of humans who shut themselves off from the rest of Lordaeron when the plague started up. No one knows what's happened to them since.
Draelan Feb 27th 2009 5:20PM
On the other side of the wall is the kingdom of Gilneas. It's a human nation ruled over by Genn Greymane. He had the Greymane Wall constructed after the Second War in attempt to cut Gilneas off from "other people's troubles". No one has been allowed in since. (Not even the refugees camping at the wall's base in WoW.) You can read more about it here:
http://www.wowwiki.com/Gilneas
Personally, I'm curious about what has been going on in Gilneas since that wall was constructed. We may never know.
Phun Feb 27th 2009 5:24PM
Like the others said, there's a whole human nation behind that wall. Gilneas. The people of Gilneas are douchebags who bailed on the Alliance during the second war (warcraft 2). The wall itself I think came up around the time of the third war (warcraft 3) or perhaps before and no-one's heard from them since (although I find it hard to believe that none of the flight masters were tempted to take a peek).
Considering their proximity to Silverpine it's often speculated they're all worgen now, but the truth is they're probably just living as they always did in their little bubble of 'paradise'.
As was mentioned Gilneas isnt the only human city on the west peninsula of Eastern Kingdoms. There's Kul Tiras as well...
havitech Feb 27th 2009 5:26PM
There's nothing actually behind it ingame, besides a little bit of empty grassy area, but there's plenty of lore about it as mentioned in the other comments.

@Phun:
Given the nature of the Azeroth, I very much doubt things are going swimmingly on the other side of that wall. Whenever the gates open, I imagine we're going to find a place that's been absolutely ravaged by something or other. Naga and murloc invasions, dragons, corrupting poisons and magics, otherdimensional problems, teleporting mages, or even the worgen curse. Heck, maybe they just starved to death.
In any event, I can't imagine the gates opening to a happy country of idyllic beauty, and King Greymane just waving cheerfully at the dying pilgrims on his doorstep.

My question is about the BS post on account security.
I do EVERYTHING possible to keep my account safe. I Constantly update my anti Virus and scan regularly. I HAD an authenticator, but it stopped authenticating, and was removed from my account by a Blizzard Employee. I'm ridiculously safe on the internet as well. Please tell me how I was hacked...

I'd guess it's someone you know and a weak (or already known) password on the email attached to your account. I'm pretty sure that to remove an authenticator from an account you need to provide a lot of personal info.
There's a reason social engineering is the easiest way to hack.
Kemikalkadet Feb 27th 2009 7:02PM
Remember that time your friend came over? you were chilling out in your room and you signed on while he was watching TV, well he wasn't watching TV.. he was watching you type your pass. Yep, your mate has all your stuff.
Lilene Feb 28th 2009 12:10PM
I'm assuming based on your phrasing that you reported your Authenticator not working and that was why Blizz removed it from your account. The lack of a replacement Authenticator, combined with a trojan containing a keylogger, was probably your culprit.
Ridiculously safe or not, it's not 100% unless you don't actually use the internet at all, and since you posted here you obviously do. It's easy enough to get caught by a next-generation virus/trojan before your virus protection software has been updated to cope with it; after all, someone has to get infected for McAfee, etc., to become aware of new viruses and program their detection files to include them.

My wife and I - and my faithful side kick Snowy are leveling up, but our problem is that we want to game together and can't find people or don't want to waste time waiting of a group for 5 person instance. Can't Blizzard make one for us ? The ones we can duo are very low level and the loot is below our levels so its less fun. How bout a rent a NPC bot?
Sithik Feb 27th 2009 5:02PM
I certainly hope you are joking.
If your not, I think you guys would definitely prefer Guild Wars, over WoW.
Spyker Feb 27th 2009 5:11PM
Velu,
If your wife plays a healer class - or either of you is a Draenei - you can form a very effective little 3-person instance group with your pet. Play carefully, don't go to instances until the quests there are green for you, use lots of CC, and keep Mend Pet ticking. It's challenging but a lot of fun. There were a pair of Draenei hunters who were using this technique to duo all of the classic content.
silverdragon Feb 27th 2009 4:58PM
How much rep do you get for every run on lvl 80 instanceses wearing the tabard?
Hoggersbud Feb 27th 2009 6:33PM
Well, it depends on the instance, and how you clear it, but here's the wowwiki page:

I didnt even read anything, aside from the vanilla coke... Fuck yah! I remember when I saw the signs saying it was coming back. I'm almost got into an accident (it was on a billboard on the NJ Turnpike.) God it's so good.... (opens up another can)... Ahhhh....
Jon Feb 27th 2009 5:02PM
I recently unshelved my priest that I hadn't played since vanilla and brought him up to the low-70s. I want to get into UK and Nexus but I haven't cast a heal on another player since sometime in 2006. Are there any Wrath updated 5-man healing guides to get me quickly up to speed? Google seems to think there isn't.
Rob Feb 27th 2009 5:23PM
Not sure about specific guides, but look at world of matticus for some info. (Sorry i couldn't be more helpful, i know nothing re preists)
Dightkuz Feb 27th 2009 5:13PM
When on the PTR, I saw that the "Mask for all Occasions"- achievement has been added to the Halloween-meta achievement. Hmm?
Spritetoggle Feb 27th 2009 5:14PM
Question about tabards. Is there any way to quickly and effectively retrieve "special" tabards now? Special meaning tabards from things like achievements and events.
I'm well aware of the tabard vendors, but they continue to carry only guild and BC reputation tabards. I have a theory that said special tabards appear at the vendor(s) once they've been lost, but I'm not about to risk tossing my Tabard of the Explorer to test this.
Thanks!
