Umm I think the worst thing I did was not realize that you could scroll down on the talent window and there were more talents in each tree. Like I was about level 40-50 and had all my points in the first few tiers :(

Hell, I didn't realise there were other talent trees. I must have been into the 60's before someone asked me why I was trying to tank as arms. why wasn't I prot? I was thinking "what the hell's 'prot'?"

lol, don't feel bad I also had no idea of talent points even existing until mid 40's or 50's.That was bad but the most noob moment was me (a warlock) spending a ridiculous amount of money (at the time) and hours trying to get The Phantom Blade....No concept of any stats whatsoever. Thank God we all moved on...or at least most of us

I knew that at every level I would get a point to use on talent tree, but I used to think I would have points to use on each tree.

I refused to spend my talent points at first. I’m the type of person who wants to know absolutely everything I can about something before committing to a choice. Someone told me to be very careful about choosing talents because you have to spend gold to redo them. GOLD!? I was excited when I got silver and a few coppers. I thought I’d have to save for a month to redo the talents and wasn’t about to screw up my character forever. My mage was almost 30 before she had a spec. To this day I haven’t paid for a respec, and I have four toons level 60 or higher.I did this to two characters. My hunter finally found a “mentor” at level 19 who helped me choose some talents and taught me how to make a macro (that raptor ate a LOT!). Then I went nuts with macros. I still remember seeing “Yarp!” every time I mounted up on my bird.Since WoW is the first MMO we’ve played, my husband and I didn’t understand the tank/dps/healer roles. My husband almost quit the game because he was so frustrated about the lack of damage his sword-wielding holy pally did while my squishy mage who carried around a big stick could kill something before it even got to us. He rolled a mage, I rolled a resto shammy and we’ve been happy ever since.I also remember being very frustrated about how to make a wand work. I kept trying to right-click it on the character screen. Then (since I also had a hunter), I tried to find ammo for it. Oy. I had to use UrbanDictionary.com to figure out what people were talking about on the trade channel. 1337 – huh? ROFL – what? WT… – /blush. And last but not least… doesn’t everyone have to jump off Teldrassil once?

I thought the talents you got changed which skills you could use. So I got Fire Talents on my mage and then went and picked up the fire spells from the trainer, but why spend money on spells I couldn't use? So I didn't buy a single Frost spell. At lvl 23 I told my boyfriend (a 60 lock), I didn't like this game anymore it had gotten too hard. He looked at my action bar and was like where are all your frost spells? you gotta slow them down. I replied - but I am a fire mage...
