The Queue: Genn, you're such a jerk
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.Be warned that the very end of today's edition of The Queue contains minor spoilers for the upcoming Ulduar raid zone. Everything is perfectly safe until the very last question, and even then the spoilers are very minor. Minor as in it describes a couple of the bosses found within the zone. It doesn't give away any story or plot. If you want your experience to remain pure, stop at the last question. If you don't care so much about knowing who you'll see in Ulduar, it's perfectly safe.
I warn because I love.
mindor asked...
What is the deal with the Greymane wall in Silverpine forest? Is there an old raid set in there? What is on the other side of that monstrous wall?
The nation of Gilneas is behind that wall. At least, it was. We don't know if it's still standing. Gilneas is/was another Human kingdom that was part of the Alliance of Lordaeron. Genn Greymane, the King of Gilneas, never fully agreed with the Alliance's decisions and wasn't fond of many things it did, so he eventually said "nuts to you all" and built the Greymane Wall, locking his nation off from all of the crap that was going on in the world. Whether it was successful or not, we don't know. We haven't seen anybody from Gilneas ever since.
It's likely that they're all dead.
silverdragon asked...
How much rep do you get for every run on level 80 instances wearing the tabard?
How much rep you earn via Championing a faction varies per dungeon. Wowwiki has a good list for them all that you might want to check out. Level 80 Normal dungeons only give around 500 reputation, Heroics give a lot more. On the low end is Azjol-Nerub and Violet Hold, those two will only give you about 1300 reputation. The high end is Ahn'Kahet and The Nexus, who each give you 2300 rep. Everything else falls in between.
Zarfay asked...
Do you have any idea when 3.1 will be released?
When it's ready. Also, soon.
Rosie asked...
When I see the mount vendor in Darnassus, They have 2 quests to trade in old mounts. Is this still coming or olden time mounts?
That's a really old school trade-in. Way back in the day, epic mounts didn't have the models they do today. They looked exactly like the non-epic mounts, just with different colors. They didn't have armor or special decorations or any of that. When they added the new mount models, they put in the trade-in option for people who wanted to exchange their armorless mounts for one with armor. The armorless ones aren't available for purchase anymore.
Once every few months I see someone riding around with their armorless epic mount and I smile. That's the definition of old school right there.
Now, Minor spoilers incoming!
Phun asked...
I'm a little confused about the Ulduar raid. Is the vehicle section actually outside the instance or not? The Hodir preview said it was before the instance portal.
Ulduar is an instance within an instance. When you first zone into the raid zone, you're in a massive outdoor area. This is where the vehicle portion will take place, and there's room for a number of bosses beyond that. When you reach the end of this area, there's another instance portal. This portal takes you to the inside of Ulduar.
So the vehicle portion is inside of the instance, yes. Hodir and the Iron Council and such are also inside of an instance, but not the same instance. You take a second portal to get to them.

Interesting quest line for Frostborn. Though it was kind of obvious just a few steps into the chain who Yorg Stormheart is. I wonder though, did anyone else catch the explanation during the flight part of the chain? That during the battle with the worm...
"Velog Icebellow says: My father thought they were all doomed... but behind him, a furious roar rumbled across the snow, and he turned to see the mountain dwarf growing in size, his skin taking on a stone-like texture, and his hands sizzling with lightning."
mmhmm...so since he is a Ironforge dwarf, I wonder what gave him this ability (other than being decedant of earthen). It'd be pretty exciting to see how this gets explained. So might there be plans to further this along? Also, what's with naming of Yorg? Is there any connection to Yorgg-Saron, as if the Frostborn worship him or something?
jbodar Mar 2nd 2009 7:18PM
Uh, that's Yogg-Saron. Yorg is a Frostborn name reserved for it's people's heroes.

I did wonder about the part where he became like a storm giant too, though. Maybe his memory loss unlocked latent abilities? Cliche, but still pretty sweet.
ganchara Mar 2nd 2009 9:15PM
it is the avatar ability from wc3, not turning into a storm giant

Hello, I have a question for the Q.
What is/was that giant wall & door with titan things around it in tanaris? Was it ever anything? I'd love to know the story behind it.
Thanks!
Keyra Mar 2nd 2009 8:34PM
Crap...I thought I had been all over Tanaris. What are the location coordinates for this? I'd love to go see it.

That would be Uldum. Its one of the three major Titan cities or outposts along side Uldaman and the soon-to-be-released Ulduar. We don't know all that much about what's inside. We just know that it appears something broke out, as the hole in the door looks to be made from the inside.
There's a quest chain you pick up after the last boss in Uldaman that eventually takes you there to attempt to gain entry. But the discs you have are not the correct ones to open the door, so we can't go in. But Blizzard plans to add it some day. I wouldn't expect it until an expansion or two down the road seeing how they just opened a major Titan complex for us to play around in.

Couple of Questions:
-Why are the commendations NPC still in the major cities? It's been a while since we have had to open the Gates and even the blues have confirmed that they are being opened now on newly created servers for months, but yet those Horde Ally Commendation NPC's still remain.
Drahliana Mar 6th 2009 7:07AM
Blizzard maintains one set of code for all servers. The commendations folks are there for those OLD school servers on the odd chance that someone might still have commedations to turn in some day, and it also covers the possibility they might transfer to a newer server down along the line.

A question about Ulduar. I'm not fond of stacking to much gold, and now I've got over 10k, I decided to buy a expensive mount. Either the Hog or the repair Mammoth. I'd buy the Mammoth if i would be sure I can use it inside Ulduar to support my guild while raiding there. But since the mommoths are so big and don't fit tru any doors, I'd prefer the Hog if I can't ride the Mamoth in Ulduar. Can't find any info on Ulduar about using mounts, altho i expect the outside part to allow one to ride his mount, but what about the (larger) inside part?

I've never seen anyone answer this about dual specs, and I was hoping the queue could answer it. After you pick your two specs and have them saved, actionbars saved, ect. what if you want to respec a dual spec? How does this work?
jbodar Mar 3rd 2009 2:49AM
They have answered this. It works just like presently. You pay the (up to) 50g to change your current spec. The secondary remains unchanged.
Nethaera: Can I respec only one of my talent sets, or will I need to respec them both if I reset one?
Ghostcrawler: When you reset your talents, it will look at the spec you currently have in use as the talent set you want to change.

Disco Ball Mar 3rd 2009 7:48AM
So I want to roll a new character that will be more usefull when duel spec comes out. What is the best character that can do tanking or healing, once duel spec comes out. This way I can switch to whatever is needed. I can not decide between paladin or druid. Thanks!

So we're returning to the 'instance-in-instance' style? Does that mean there will be a Molten Core or BWL-style attunement to skip the 'outer' instance?

I have a question for the Q:
I was leveling my alt through Dragonblight the other day, and I noticed that there appears to be a highway, bridges and all, leaving Wyrmrest Temple and heading south.
Who would build such a road, and where would it go? South from Dragonblight still puts you in the ocean, so unless you and the family were planning a scenic drive into the Maelstrom...

Will i be able to use my Mekgineer Chopper in the Vehicle portion of the fight?
deadrabit Mar 3rd 2009 2:43PM
Ok I have read about 16 posts before saying enough is enough.
I full expect that the term "Instance" portal is not correct. simply portal or teleporter would be more accurate. As in to move something from place A to Place B.
Instance portal is a technical term to mean to start a separate instance of code with it's own data set. Allowing many players to experience the same content with out interfering with each other. each has their own copy of the data (mob status etc. Dead not dead) and teleporting (aka moving) that player into the newly created separate environment.
if the portal inside Uldar was an instance portal it would mean that you could take your 10/25 raid split up and have your own "copy" of the internal part of the instance.
the portal is probably a trick/short cut for the game engine limitations. Dealing with "outside" environment and "Indoor" environment available functionality. and to prevent you to bring the vehicles inside the main indoor part of the instance. A forced transition.
The Vehicles require to be in an "outside" environment. Think about all the quests that use Vehicles they are all outdoors. For EoE that whole instance could be marked outdoors, I don't know I have not been there yet.
