Why now's the best time to run BC content
Spartonian over on WoW LJ has been running some old content, and he points out something that everyone should hear: now is the absolute best time to be running the old Burning Crusade endgame. He says the contest is laughably easy with current endgame levels and gear, and yet, because we're still basically at the beginning of this expansion's endgame, there are still quite a few items that can be picked off of the end bosses in Black Temple and Sunwell (not to mention you can pick up the achievements for those places if you weren't able to down them before. And he's right -- there are some nice trinkets still found in those old instances, and who wouldn't want to complete their Warglaive set or grab a Thori'dal from Sunwell? Sure, the stats may not be the best, but until the ammo changes go in, you can save money while soloing -- and own a legendary to boot.
Of course, when Ulduar shows up, we'll all likely be too busy with the new content (be it the raids or the Argent Tournment or whatever else you got) to go back to Burning Crusade. But now, during the downtime post-OS and Naxx, is the perfect time to go back and clean up the old content.

I doubt i'll ever drop into a hyjal,bt or sunwell pug, that would kind of a lesson in torture. Unless say it's one of the top tier guilds and I happen to get invited for that. Anyways, on my own I started up a dk for this exact purpose. Paladin could do the same thing but soloing the old dungeons is so much fun on from the 1-60 content, I cant wait to do the outland ones! Although I will be cheating a "little" because a friend of mine has a priest so we can duo most anything :)

Hyjal isn't that bad with pugs, probably. On 1/1/09, my guild (who were admittedly clearing it pre-wrath) cleared it, drunk off their asses. We one-shotted everything to Archimonde, though Archie took a few tries (drunk tank kept backing it into the tree.)
That's with 19 people, with only so-so 80 gear. Now that everyone has all their gear, I'm sure it is easy.

If only I was high enough level for the endgame to be easy... and had some guildies willing to run this stuff with me

YOU ARE... PREPARED? >.

I'd love to get a look into "older" content that I missed... but I'm not in any rush for it now that there's so much to do in WotLK.
The biggest thing I'd like to see is the Illidan fight... even though I still don't think it makes sense to kill him off.

i'm a bit of a slacker (or at least not a raider)...my DK picked up the Outland Dungeonmaster achievement last night when he finally visited Magisters' Terrace.

I would make a bet that a well-geared naxx level group of 5 (1 tank, 1 healer 3 dps) could clear BT. Maybe the dps would be too low but if everyone is doing 3000+ then it should be okay. We ran BT a month ago with only two 80s, with 12 people. We didn't have any problems relating to dps or gear. It was all due to most people haven't not stepped foot into a raid before.

Gorefiend would probably be difficult to finish off before he kills all 5.

This is pretty much true with a few important exceptions. A lot of encounters have mechanics where multiple tanks and multiple healers or just a bunch of warm bodies are mandatory, either because of positioning / debuffs / mind control type stuff. Most can be overcome with OP heals, tanking and lots of DPS, but some are pure logistics that don't scale down with gear. Of course, you can always get good luck on the RNG...
Basically, many of the following ones can be done with two strong tanks, 2 or 3 strong healers and a few very situationally aware DPSers. I just think 5-man is a bit of a stretch. Basically with these mechanics in mind, it’s a good idea to find some old-school combat log parses and try to match the DPS and HPS numbers, because the fights were tuned around those numbers and it’s probably a good idea to meet or exceed them. Stamina pools make up for a lot of it, but many of those mechanics simply can’t be steamrolled.
A'lar (platforms), Kael'thas (MCs/Conflag/Toy), Tidewalker (Graves 2-4 at a time), Rage Winterchill (Ice Blocks), Azgalor (Doom), Gorefiend (Constructs), Bloodboil (Acidic Wound/Disorient on tanks), Illidari Council (mostly # of tanks/healers). Sunwell (*cough*).

Good points. We did BT regularly in the day and i think we got by with about 15000 raid dps for bosses. I'm having a hard time remembering the exact number, but I believe we did regular clears with 15000 total raid dps. So, yeah, i agree 5 manning it probably isn't going to happen any time soon, if not due to logistics alone (ie council)

I disagree, gear from these would be replaced very quickly, and any fun items will be easier to pick up once we have absolutely uber 80 gear. I've seen & been in more pre-BC raids then OL ones recently. Personally, I like raiding the pre-BC places a lot more then OL ones right now. They're just as fun, but you don't have to worry about pulling too much.

Madness of the Betrayer and Blackened Naaru Sliver are both still good trinkets for melee types.

I'd love to get into the old endgame stuff, if only for the sake of picking up the old recipes and patterns I couldn't before.
Neodarkmatter Mar 3rd 2009 1:28PM
I hear ya. We are still running Kara weekly trying to get the Mongoose enchant.
Lemons Mar 3rd 2009 3:00PM
they should really think about upping the drop rate on that thing..

My daughter and I did this very thing this past weekend. She (lvl 80 kitty combat druid) and I (lvl 80 disc priest) "2-ladied" the heroic Coilfang dungeons, working toward exalted rep with Cenarion Expedition. We both want the Cenarion War Hippogryph. Almost there...and having a blast doing it. Playing WoW with my daughter is the most fun I have in the game. :)

i love stories like this.

Thori'dal is still the best weapon in the game for hunters, regardless of the Magical Ammo. The closest any others come is the Envoy of Mortality off of Kel in heroic Naxx.
mezpin Mar 3rd 2009 2:02PM
Not even close to many of the level 80 bows and guns once you factor in ammo damage.
Vlatch Mar 3rd 2009 2:36PM
BAH! Forgot about the ammo damage. Thanks for letting me know.
