The Queue: Hawaiian Pizza edition
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.Today, in addition to all of the questions I'm answering for you, I need all of you to answer a question for me. Hawaiian Pizza: Delicious, or Crazy Delicious? This is an important question, my friends. I need each and every one of you to contribute. It's for the good of mankind. Also, to prove my girlfriend wrong. It rules, does it not?

Evaline asked...
Are there any Ulduar achievements currently on the PTR? I'm guessing they aren't there yet, because we would have heard something about them if there were. Another question if I may, do the bosses on the PTR currently drop loot? Again probably not, for the same reason as above, but can't hurt to ask.
No achievements, no loot. We probably won't see anything about the achievements at all until they've tested all of the bosses they plan on testing at least once. You sort of need to make sure the fight works when doing it regularly before you start coming up with all sorts of crazy things for people to try.
Loot is probably something we'll start seeing a few PTR builds from now. I imagine they have most of the items designed by now but haven't assigned drops to bosses at all. It's pretty likely we won't see most of the drops actually drop until live servers, either. They're using the Shirt of Uber to circumvent gearing issues for testing later bosses.

Any word on new emblem gear becoming available for purchase in 3.1?
There is new Emblem gear being added for the new Emblems, yes. Emblems of Heroism and Emblems of Valor are not getting new items as far as we know. The new Emblems are Emblems of Conquest that drop in Ulduar-25, while Ulduar-10 drops Valor.
In yesterday's PTR patch we started seeing these Conquest items. You can hop on over to that post to check them out.

I noticed in Sholazar Basin on a small Island in the lake north of Hesingwary FP (coords 38,37) a small hatch with some numbers on them? Any idea what that might be?
It's a pop culture reference. It's a nod to Lost. Or maybe it's LOST. LoSt? lOsT? I have no idea how that title works.
uncaringbear asked...
Why does Blizz make the loading screen (the one of Arthas that you see after selecting a character and zone into the game) impossible to ALT-TAB out of? Am I the only person that finds this annoying? With the longer and longer loading times, if your character is parked in Dalaran, it would be nice to ALT-TAB out and do something other than stare at Arthas' grinning mug for what seems like an eternity.
I assume there's some technical reason for it, but I don't really know for sure. I do know how I avoid staring at the loading screens, though.
If your computer can handle it, go into your video settings and switch over to Windowed Mode. Then Maximize it using the little check box, so it fills your entire screen. If you have a good system (which you might not if your load times are that long) you can continue playing WoW as you always have, except tabbing out will be much easier and much faster. The only problem is that it's a heavier load on your computer. If your PC can handle it, you absolutely should always play in Windowed Mode if you are a chronic alt-tabber like I am. I don't ever look at loading screens. Ever.

Windows Mode FTW...

I am more of a straight peperoni person myself. My wife loves the hawaiian style though. /sigh I always lose that fight.
I do have a question today too.
With the announcement of the mounts being removed from the raiding achievements there has been a large uproar on the forums. Many people are in favor of it while many more are against it. Several suggestions have been made as alternatives to removing the mounts from the achievements. One of these suggestions is to put an item level restriction on the achievement. So basically no one in the raid may be wearing gear with an item level above X (i think the current item level of raid gear is 213). I like this suggestion but some people were shooting it down saying that item level is more of a point system on how stats get distributed on gear and that some items may be better despite lower item levels.
So the main question is how exactly does item level work? How is it determined and how does it effect the stats on gear?
Erogroth Mar 4th 2009 3:24PM
Damn. Sorry didn't mean to attach this to this poster. You can move it to the bottom if you like. My bad.

I know it sounds weird, but I actually get better performance on windowed mode. Go figure. Been that way since back in BC.
Calaana Mar 4th 2009 5:22PM
Erogoth,
Items are built using an item budget. The total number of points, how many of each stat you can have and which ones are all affected by the item points. A large factor in this is the item level, though item quality affects it too. All epic 213 level items are roughly the same "power", but some are more useful than others because of how they are itemized. It's like talent points for equipment I guess.

If your system can handle it (mostly video card dependent in this case), I'd also highly recommend a dual-monitor setup. I've had my personal systems set up this way for a couple years now, and it's hard going back to one screen. Yeah, there's a bit of an initial investment involved, but for me it was well worth it.
When playing WoW, I have WoW on my left monitor, while I have a web browser with wowhead or wowinsider open on the right monitor. Windowed mode (maximized) lets me mouse between them without any funky transitions or whatnot. Extremely convenient.
It's also immensely helpful for writing papers (paper in one window, reference material in the other) and for artwork (full screened painting in one window with my pallete, navigator and other tools in the other window).

Here is a super easy work around that I have found to alt-tab out of the loading screen (at least on a windows PC).
Select your character and with your mouse press the 'load' (is that the term?) button and hold it down. Don't click on the button, press and hold.
Then hit the windows key on your computer and let go of the mouse. Wow will then continue to load in the background while you do other things on your computer.

Best. Poll. Ever.
Made me lol in the office.
And I'm a "Crazy Delicious" type of person. (And getting Hungry too)
Kadamon Mar 4th 2009 2:23PM
You're wrong you know. It's not crazy delecious.
It's the best damn pizza ever.
Of course, I can't really eat many other pizza's other than hawai'ian because of my stupid beef allergies....but hey!
machoflaco Mar 4th 2009 2:28PM
Pinapple on pizza?? Yuck! I'll have my strawberries on pizza, tyvm.
Brian Mar 4th 2009 3:20PM
@machoflaco

When visiting Sweden, I had a pineapple and shrimp pizza, that was pretty interesting.

All american pizza's suck.
Forza Italia!
Ikarus Mar 4th 2009 5:09PM
Even better than Hawaiian pizza, is Pepperoni and pineapple (add garlic if your like me). sounds odd, but it it the best. Sweet and spicy ftw!
jbodar Mar 4th 2009 7:46PM
Fun fact: Local Hawaiians generally avoid "Hawaiian Pizza" and pineapples in general, because they don't like them much really. I'm not local though, so I eat them all the time.

The rock you're living under. Come out from under it.
Braundo Mar 4th 2009 1:37PM
Ah yes, because he/she doesn't watch that particular TV show they must be living under a rock.
Charlie Mar 4th 2009 2:17PM
I mean, just because it's the greatest television show in history, doesn't mean you should know about it.
If you disagree, talk to Chuck Klosterman =P
Anyways, the real numbers are 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42. I believe the numbers on the WoW hatch are +1. So 5, 9, 16... etc.
Man i miss Season 2. What a great run.
eric_barbaric Mar 4th 2009 2:18PM
Wow, with your level of arrogance, you make the WoW snobs and elitists seem down right humble in comparison. I haven't ever seen that show either, so if I'd have found that hatch, the referance would have been lost on me too. I guess that I'm too busy...I dunno...PLAYING WoW on the night that show is on to see it. Then again, I doubt I'd watch it anyway. Soap operas, be they the day or night time variety (yes, these melodramatic shows are soap operas whether you admit it or not).

I despise Lost but even I knew this.
