Two Bosses Enter: Moragg vs. Lavanthor

This week's boss matchup pulls two prisoners from The Violet Hold: Moragg vs. Lavanthor. Let's take a look at the eye-popping action to find out whose bark is worse than his bite.
The usual rules apply: assume that the opponents share similar levels, health pools and damage output, and that they are fighting right there in the prison. Let's keep the debate on the three S's: Style, Story and Scale. Don't get caught up in game mechanics and what players might do in each encounter. Consider the flavor each villainous gladiator brings to bear, then cast your vote for who you think would come out on top.
Moragg
Moragg, a demonic floating eye, is one of the prisoners in The Violet Hold. Moragg has a few spell tricks up his sleeve (although certainly not as many as he has tentacles).
Corrosive Saliva
Optic Link
Ray of Pain
Ray of Suffering
Lavanthor
The great beast Lavanthor, also imprisoned in The Violet Hold, may look familiar to old-school raiders: yep, he's a Core Hound. As such, his tactics are basic: bark fire, bite hard.
Cauterizing Flames
Firebolt
Flame Breath
Lava Burn
The smackdown
Remember: no group-tactic or game-mechanic nitpicking. Vote for the spirit of the battle as set forth above. Set aside differences in opponents' health pools, game level and actual damage output, and size up these villains based on their fighting style.
It's not just who wins -- it's why. What's your reasoning behind who ends up victorious? Post your comments -- let's come up with what goes down!
| Tie; they kill each other. | |

whne we get down to it lits a 2 headed lava puppy vs a baloon. i think the winner is obvious here

It's really more of a squid thing, versus a firey dog.
Fried calamari anyone?
Matrim Mar 5th 2009 4:58PM
As much as I like the floating C'thulu heads, I have to go with the pure fire output of the dog. By the time the corrosive acid builds up to make a difference its dead

Well as a paladin who goes into HVH everyday to get that damn puppy to come out of his cage and drop his trinket though he never does, I will have to go with Moragg here if only because the has the cahones to battle about once a week.
Llain Mar 5th 2009 1:10PM
While normally they'd probably kill each other, I'm thinking that since Moragg is floating he could avoid some of the ground fire and have time to get that Optic Link up to full power. Moragg wins.

This is a tough one! Shadow vs. Fire... Although, two gaping maws beats one in my book.
Arrowsmith Mar 5th 2009 1:10PM
I would give this one to Lavanthor. Buffing your own damage ftw.
Zasziden Mar 5th 2009 1:11PM
Seems pretty straightforward to me. Two tank'n'spanks going head to head. One has a laser that only gets better at range. The other has lavabreath that doesn't care where in front of him you are.
Moragg would have to pull out some sort of floating high for sniping devilry in order to win. Since I don't think he's that smart, Lavanthor wins.

I like how Moragg has the Corrosive Saliva spell that "licks" the opponent, imo, that would really hurt licking something on fire.
Lavanthor ftw here.
SeanOr101 Mar 5th 2009 1:13PM
I think Lavanthor will simply do more damage and kill Moragg faster than he could kill Lavanthor. His Optic link and Ray's just won't put out enough DPS.
I say Lavanthor wins. (Ironically, I think Moragg is harder to kill in VH than Lavanthor is. He's more of a multi-target boss and tends to kill squishy's faster)
Shade Mar 5th 2009 1:19PM
Lavanthor - he simply does more damage.
jared.daniels Mar 5th 2009 1:26PM
While Moragg CAN stay at range, he doesn't. Therefore he's stupid enough to get up into Lavanthor's grill.. er.. grills.
Therefore, Lavanthor wins because he can double-team with one body.
Toasty Mar 5th 2009 1:27PM
They both die, but not at the same time.
Moragg would obviously win, via floating above ground fire, and being genuinely too gross for Lavanthor to wanna bite (He's like a squid thing!)
But once Moragg wins, he's sealed up in Violet Hold in a roasting heat-coffin. All that lava all over the place, fire damage, and general smokiness? I get the feeling that Moragg doesn't have enough space in his head/body for any strong immunity to carcinogens and smoke.
Not to mention, once the fire breaks open the other jails, Moragg'll probably get lynched by angry Arrakoa and that fucking impossible ethereal boss who always glitches up my HVH runs.

Puppy vs Chew toy?
Puppy wins.
Banaoil Mar 5th 2009 1:34PM
/agree
Play?! PLAY!!!
Mo would get ripped apart when the other head had the toy. Everbody knows that Lavaradors love to play fetch and tug o' war.

The Puppy vs. the Squeak Toy?
ROFLMAO
I can't really say it's the best rationale for a Two Bosses matchup ... LOL ... But I do have to admit that I officially love you guys for dubbing it thusly. ;)
Karilyn Mar 5th 2009 1:31PM
Personally. I vote in favor of Motigg.
Lavanthor's strongest abilities, Lava Burn, and Flame Breath, are both short range AOEs that a flying opponent would easily avoid. A few firebolts would help, but I doubt they'd stand up to Moragg's assault.
Kar On E Mar 5th 2009 1:36PM
Not so sure why everyone is talking about how Moragg could stay at a distance the entire fight when Firebolt has a 40 yard range and Lava Burn also has a range of 50 yards.
Plus, this really does seem to be a fight of Dog vs. Squeak Toy. And unless my childhood memories are mistaken, those usually don't end well for the toy...

Regardless of which boss wins, the real winners are us, the players. Neither one of these bosses is required for an achievement other than Lockdown. So by killing one permanently, we increase our chances of seeing one of the bosses that is attached to other acheivements.
I've run H-VH five times in the past week as a few of us are gunning for the Red Proto-Drake. Neither the water boss nor the void-spawning boss has appeared. In contrast, even with different group leaders, we've gotten Lavapuppy five times and the Pinky three. Ugh.
Lunati Mar 5th 2009 1:57PM
Lavanthor strikes me as much more solid. Moragg wont be flying away, his style is to go in the face, and burn people who run away, I doubt that he'd change his tactics for Lavanthor.
Lavanthor's damage goes up constantly, getting worse and worse, making a roast calamari dinner. :)
Even if Moragg tries to run , the range on his flames are larger than that of the eye beams, still giving Lavanthor the advantage.
