Phat Loot Phriday: Cowl of Sheet Lightning

Lots of the endgame cloth headpieces look the same actually, but it's a good look -- the pointy head, the glowing eyes. And nothing says power than a name like "sheet lightning."

Name: Cowl of Sheet Lightning (Wowhead, Thottbot, WoWDigger)
Type: Epic Cloth Head
Armor: 244
Attributes:
- +67 Stamina, +68 Intellect
- Meta and a Yellow socket, with a socket bonus of +9 spell power
- Improves Haste rating by 48, and spellpower by 85
- Restores 15 mana per 5 seconds, which is probably the tradeoff for having no spirit at all. But that's also what the gem is for, isn't it?
- And "sheet lightning" is a real thing -- it's what happens when a lightning bolt never actually leaves the clouds, like a flashlight under your sheet while you're reading late at night after your parents sent you to bed. We're not quite sure how powerful that is (as a caster, wouldn't you want your spells to actually hit?), but, like this helm, it does look cool.
Getting Rid of It: Sells back to vendors for 5g 64s 2c, and disenchants into a Strange Dust. No, I'm only kidding -- like all of the Wrath epics (and all of the items we've been doing lately), this one turns into an Abyss Crystal.

If your a caster DPS in need of hit, do not overlook the classic Hood of Hexing (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33453). The 3 slots allows it to scale very well at 80. I found it better than any cloth helm from Heroics and even better than most Naxx10 helms.

I can't speak for other casters, but a mage should always be getting a helm with a meta socket (like this one) and put a chaotic skyflare in it.
If you're hit-capped, this is probably the best-in-slot item for an arcane mage, for 10-man content. Unfortunately it doesn't look so great on my toon.

Did every single cloth helm from raids in Wolk (except the tier piece) have to look identical?
Hey I like 300 too, but this is madness(!)

This helm, and its heftier heroic incarnation "Gothik's Cowl," are quite good for Discipline priests.
Plus, who'd want a halo when you can look like Magento?

am i wrong in saying that most gear from 10man naxx has no hit on them. I had to pass on this because theres no hit on them. 1 yellow gem not enough to compensate.

I'm getting it. I need Strange Dust so badly!

Why did blizzard nerf all of the level 70 hall of champion pvp gear? I personally hate arenas and thoroughly enjoy the battlegrounds. But now with no "gear goals" to achieve between 60-70, this makes the battlegrounds miserable. since some were able to gear up prior to the nerf, this creates a huge mismatch in the battlegrounds thus forcing lesser geared people not to even try bg's any more. Yes, perhaps I am QQing, but I do think there is a gigantic effect on the participants in the battlegrounds between 60-70

I am so tired of the clothie Conehead look, especially the Gimp mask one. I hate the Wrath cloth models so much, and Blizzard was so damn lazy with them. I'll take the technicolor LSD stuff from Outlands over this shizz any day, at least it looked unique.
Between the hideousness of the gear and the uselessness of Frosties in raids, I've pretty much given up on my mage.

I think the graphic designers in charge of armor wish WoW was an anime-ish MMORPG with Giant Robots instead, and so they try to make everyone look like one. The best thing about my current headpiece (Hood of the Malefic, from tier6, Hyjal) is how different it looks: big horns, with translucent wings that pop out and flap randomly. I'm the ugliest little gnome lock around in that thing, and I'm certainly not mistaken for some little robot. :)

Please.. how can you say it looks good?
Perhaps putting it on a warlock it makes some sense... but honestly try it on a priest with the T7 or T7.5 gear and check out the looks.. it's as disgusting as it gets.
And worst of it, ALL the damn headpieces look the same, except for the set one. If you aren't lucky to get the set one.... thx God for the 'hide helm' option.
