Realm maintenance for March 10th
We've had clean and easy rolling restarts on Tuesday mornings more often lately, but this week we won't be so lucky.. The servers will be going down for maintenance at 5:00 AM PDT and are estimated to be back online at 11:00am PDT. Will servers be back up on time this week? Maybe, maybe not! We can certainly hope so.As usual, if anything unexpected unfolds throughout the maintenance period tomorrow, we'll be here to let you know what we know, which might not be much more than you know but you never know, you know?

I don't know....

I don't know why you guys make such a big deal about the Tuesday morning maintenance periods. It's always 'oooh-ahh, the servers are going to be down from 5AM PDT to 11AM PDT!'
Dude, they're always down every Tuesday during those time periods. The rare exceptions are the rolling restarts and extended maintenance. Those are things we need to know about.
It's routine maintenance, for crying out loud!!!!!!!!!

Quit making sense, dammit! It interferes with my random, uninformed rumor-mongering!
BTW, this guy I work with who's sister is the hairdresser to one of the wives of a guy who works at the Blizz campus cafeteria says 3.1 is going to be live "soon"...clearly "soon" means "tomorrow"!
Zeplar Mar 10th 2009 12:06AM
Careful Chris, I made that comment last time and got massive downrankings.
Alex is protective of his Monday Night Post.

Don't make this point known, I tried and got flamed for my own opinion. Whilst I agree with you, clearly the majority of WoW Insider do not.
Hellbena Mar 10th 2009 12:08AM
He's just trying to tell us that there's maintence. Some people never shut WoW down, so they never get to see the announcements that blizzard makes to let us know when we won't be able to play.
Alex Ziebart Mar 10th 2009 12:13AM
@Zeplar
Yeah, Adam usually beats me to it. It makes me cry at night. :'(

Chris, did you ever consider that they do it to bring you joy (or greater spiritual purity)? Clearly you chose to read this, and it moves you to respond, so I assume you're getting something out of it (whether happiness, or metaphysical improvement as a result of your suffering), so I can only conclude (and you can only agree) that they have nothing but altruistic intent (and affect) behind (and in) these postings.
Oh, and they "this post is so unnecessary because it conveys either no useful information, or merely information that is readily apparent" post applies to itself as well as its subject.
AyaJulia Mar 10th 2009 12:43AM
They're not making a big deal. They're informing people who for whatever reason can't see the login screen right now what time maintenance will be. Because it DOES change week by week.
If you don't like it.... you know the rest.
Zeplar Mar 10th 2009 2:21AM
Hey I like your writing and all, you're one of my favorite 3 writers, but this feels like a commercial...
There's other articles I don't like much, like WoW crafts, but obviously there's craftsy people interested in that stuff. I can't see who's interested in maintenance. If you don't log out of WoW for a week, your computer will shortly be needing some serious defragmentation....
Alex Ziebart Mar 10th 2009 2:23AM
Zeplar, if you could see how many e-mails end up in our inbox about maintenance when we DON'T post about it, you would understand why we do.
Dave Mar 10th 2009 2:44AM
When there are multiple choices:
full maintenance, ie: 5a-11a
extended maintenaince, ie: 1 or 3a - 11a
rolling restarts
and potentially announced patch days..
it's kinda nice to know which is coming up! not everyone's sitting at home on their computers playing wow while reading this blog. I don't ever read this at home, I always waste time with it at work. I personally like knowing without having to turn on the computer when I can expect to play tomorrow.
Adam Holisky Mar 10th 2009 3:28AM
Sigh... I missed it.
That'll teach me for trying to actually play this game. ;-)
Alex Ziebart Mar 10th 2009 3:30AM
Silly Adam. WoW isn't for playing.
Kadamon Mar 10th 2009 5:16AM
He's right. It's for grinding and grind and grinding until your UNTIMELY DEATH!
Until you wander back to your body that is.
Thyago Mar 10th 2009 8:44AM
I aggree with the "quite making sense" thing. If we need reality, we just STOP playing WoW! :P
Maybe that's what Blizz intends with Tuesdays "maintenance"... not maintaining servers, but maintaining our own mind health! I SO have to write a book about this theory...
PATENT PENDING! COPYRIGHT PROTECTED MATERIAL!

Vork needs to know, that's why they tell us.
Nerill Mar 10th 2009 10:36AM
OMG Jon B, up tomorrow??? EEEK, wheee!! That's great news!! It's gotta be true, I saw it on the internet.
Molly Mar 10th 2009 12:05AM
My question is, are the Tournament realms going down too? The qualifying matches begin tomorrow, and I wanna get started!
Kyol Mar 10th 2009 12:28AM
And just a reminder - realm restarts are _excellent_ times to get your Higher Learning progress started. All the books start out spawned, so they all tend to be within the same 3-4 hour cycles for the first day or two. I picked up the first 5 the first day, and got the other three by Friday.
