MMO-Champion's updated Tier 8 preview
MMO-Champion put up an update for its Tier 8 listings today, including some high res screenshots showing off the high res skins, and a video of all of the sets. Most of this is stuff that we've seen before, but some of it is new. New and wonderful. I'm really not a fan of the Paladin set this time around, but there also seems to be a robe version which I like much better. It's still pretty awful on Females, though. Again, I ask, why in the world did they bring midriff back on tier sets? Leave that to the greens and blues!
We've also started to see stats for some of these sets on the PTR, but not many. A lot of the raid items that are becoming available on the PTR haven't actually had their stats adjusted from the Tier 7 items they were copy-pasted from. In this case, the Warrior set that we've seen is from Ulduar-10 and shares stats with gear from Naxxramas-25. That might actually be a pretty accurate indicator of what it will be on live, with maybe a little extra tweaking upwards to make the 10-man still useful for people who did Naxx-25 previously.

Looking good!

I like em all, especially the Warlock set. But my God, when is Blizzard gonna update the Undead models (as they apply to armor)? Undead clothing and armor always looks the worst in the game; half of it's obscured and the other half is just scrawny and haphazard in comparison to every other model. (Pants and shirts are always ripped up, with the model showing through underneath. We don't even GET models for boots--and our gloves, belts and shirts are barely recognizable.)
I understand that they're dead, and that Blizzard originally wanted to convey a "rotting, out-of-the-coffin" look when the game was launched. And hey, that's fine for the character model. But the way clothes and armor are represented ON those models is just hideous and doesn't even come close to resembling what the clothes/armor are SUPPOSED to look like.
I really can't believe that this has never been addressed even one time in the game's history. I love playing Undead, but we are so short-changed when it comes to the way our gear looks.

I think they only "address" things they think are actually wrong...
If you mean "complained about" that's been done to death.

Josh, most of the models need updating. The undead are obvious, but how about these:
*Undead female's legs show through their tabards from behind when they move.
*Orc female's legs pass through their tabards in the front.
*Nelf males have severely inverted crotches.
*Humans couldn't pass for anything prettier than cro-magnon man. There are other models for humans in the game, you just can't use them.
*Trolls don't blink, and troll males have two pieces of really obvious belt that move up and down in the back when they run. I find it very distracting.
*Tauren druid's cat form... well, we've been over that so many
times that Blizzard should be ashamed of themselves.

The paladin gear is sure better than the teal and gold garbage they have us in now. Not perfect, but better.
Let's see a revamp of the T2 set, please.

Wow, the druid robe version looks roughly one million times better than the pants version. I know what I'll be gunning for when the patch comes out.
Evi Mar 10th 2009 8:44PM
Agreed. I hope they don't do pants for feral and robe for balance/resto. This is one feral druid who wants the robe, please. :D

The rogue set is awful looking. Really dig the Shaman set, just wish I had a shaman now.
Zul Mar 10th 2009 8:58PM
I'm thing the exact opposite (I'm a shaman) but I wish I had a rogue since it looks awesome, the shaman set look so over used.
Mr42 Mar 11th 2009 7:58AM
both shaman and rogue sets look like T5s to me (well, shoulders at least, but those are the most defining parts, imo)
and mage set is still kenny, especailly when worn by a gnome
i like priest set the most
Hansbo Mar 10th 2009 7:25PM
At first I didn't like the priest set, but I've grown to like it. It looks really slick on belfs (like me!) and I look forward to wearing it.
Taladan Mar 10th 2009 7:40PM
The priest set was the only one that looked good since the very first day when MMO-Champion found the set in the datafiles.
Frodo58 Mar 10th 2009 7:29PM
Druid skirts ftw!!
Magnus Mar 10th 2009 7:33PM
SHAMANS GET TO WEAR PANTS!
*dance of joy*
korruptor Mar 10th 2009 7:35PM
lol gnome rogue looks like a deformed oopma-loompa
oldwisemonk Mar 11th 2009 6:52PM
I think Tier 8 could be dubbed "The Silly Hat Party Tier."
Reinstag Mar 10th 2009 7:40PM
The rogue set looks terrible. And the non-set pants continue the trend of rogues wearing torn bike-shorts. Sad Clown helmets and exposed knees FTL!
Taladan Mar 10th 2009 7:40PM
Paladins now have kilts and mages use pants. /palmface
jbodar Mar 12th 2009 6:05AM
What do you mean "now"? Pallies also had kilts in T2.

The mage set makes me cry. It looks decent on the gnome, but on the Draenei male (which my mage is) it looks terribad.
The warlock set is the most badass tier set ever created tho. It even trumps Warlock T5 for auesomeness.
It's so Silent Hill. I love it.
