The Queue: Ulduar progression and more
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.Ah, maintenance day. The day where I finally get to go out into the world and suck some sunshine into my pallid flesh. I may even pick up some groceries! One can only order crates of Ramen off of the internet so many times before life starts to get a little bland. ...Wait, but if I leave the house... who will write The Queue!? Oh man, forget it, I'll get some sunlight next year. Maybe I can order some Pringles to add a little flavor to my noodles.
Fargostar5000 asked...
Don't know if anyone has asked this yet, but are groups going able to run Ulduar-1o successfully using only the gear from tbe other 10-mans thus far, or will heroic level raid gear be necessary/recommended?
Having gear from the 25-man raids is absolutely not required to do 10-man Ulduar. It'll make it easier, of course, but it's not at all required or necessary. The 10-man raids are on their own progression path, separate from the 25-man path. The 10-mans are tuned for people who do 10-man raids. The 25-mans are tuned for people who do 25-man raids.
Zayd asked...
How long after 3.1 is released before a guild clears Ulduar on Heroic?
How long will it take guilds like Ensidia, Premonition, etc? I give it a week. Maybe two. Most guilds, with the exception of the very casual guilds, will probably take a month to clear out the whole place on 'easy mode.' It'll take much longer than that for most guilds to clear out all of the hard modes of the encounters. Ulduar is harder than Naxxramas, but I still don't think it's particularly hard. Certainly nowhere near as difficult as Sunwell Plateau, which very much honed the skills of the guilds that are utterly trouncing Wrath's current content. Some of the encounters will be hard, and the hard modes of fights are always more challenging, but just a basic clear? Bosses will probably be toppling over left and right unless a lot of the encounters are tuned higher than they were when we experienced them on the PTR.
Aracross asked...
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
Seventy five.
Willian asked...
Are you guys going to try Darkfall Online?
Me personally? No. Is WoW Insider going to talk about it much? Probably not. If you're looking for Darkfall Online material though, we can still point you toward our sister site, Massively. Massively is our network's blog for all things MMORPG, including WoW. If you play more MMOs than just World of Warcraft, Massively is for you.
That probably sounded like I was narrating a commercial, didn't it?
MerricMaker asked...
When and why on earth was Mirror of Truth's proc changed to only trigger from melee hits?
The tooltip is a liar. The Mirror of Truth does still proc from ranged hits, the text is just inaccurate.

I was wondering if you had any more information on Yogg-Saron and how he is going to be accessed?
Gravity13 Mar 10th 2009 11:13AM
Why are we not able to get Tabard rep in lvl 80 raids like we are able to do in lvl 80 dungeons and heroics?
and will there be any change to this?
Thander Mar 10th 2009 11:18AM
I don't think they will ever do this. Otherwise, there is no reason to do Heroics. New players already have a hard enough time getting groups for them.
I only get groups in them with my guild and very rarely with a PuG, say once a week I can find a PuG quickly (as in not having to spend 6 hours looking just to have the healer leave).

I've gotten really lazy about PVE runs and will usually only do the raids my guild does. Very rarely do I run heroics now, even though I'm only exalted with Wyrmrest and I still haven't bought the emblem mount.
I don't need the emblems for PVP gear, because I've bought most of it with honor. I don't need anything else that emblems of heroism can get other than the mount. If I got rep for doing the raids, it'd be one reason less to run heroics at all.
Not even the achievements make me wanna run heroics half the time.

Are there any daily quests or other means of grinding reputation with the Taunka and Hand of Vengeance?
Evaline Mar 10th 2009 11:20AM
Nope. Haven't heard anything about new dailies on the PTR either. The Argent Tournament quests give Sunreaver rep though, it seems.
MechChef Mar 10th 2009 12:52PM
No dailies. They're pretty much just stepping-stone rep factions to build Horde Exp rep.

Approximately 90% of WowInsider sounds like an advertisement. -_- The other 10% assumes that most players of WoW are really fricking hardcore when, in fact, the majority of players are, in your terms "very casual".
JALbert Mar 10th 2009 11:23AM
And by virtue of regularly reading a WoW blog, you are more hardcore than 90% of the population.
Holgar Mar 10th 2009 11:30AM
What he said ^
rosencratz Mar 10th 2009 11:36AM
10% is too hardcore?
Please! Maybe one or wo articles attempt to cater to the "HARDCORE!!!!" but most of them miss the mark.
WoWinsider is a nice place to come for something to read but accuracy(That which a harcorer craves) is few and far between.
mixx Mar 10th 2009 12:21PM
reading a wow blog makes you hardcore? I thought it just made me less productive at work........
eric_barbaric Mar 10th 2009 3:01PM
@ mixx
LMAO...and here I thought I was the only one (well...not really)
Guapa Mar 11th 2009 6:43AM
well... I'm really surprised that the WoW Insider URL is still not blocked by my companies' firewall. Maybe it will, after they detected this very post...
Evaline Mar 10th 2009 11:15AM
I hope the Ulduar 10-man hard modes can actually be feasibly done with 10-man gear this time around.
Ian R. Mar 10th 2009 3:54PM
On a similar note, Do you think the first couple of bosses can be PUG'd on easy mode? Like Sarth can and Vault?
Sinthar Mar 11th 2009 1:42PM
Im sure it will be, after all its dropping Valour tokens, which sort of indicates it will be dropping the equivalent of the 25 man naxx gear, so it should easily be taken using just 10 man naxx gear.
Enjoy

guess i'll ask today,
any idea when the Wintergrasp Portal in Dalaran will be fixed? if at all? it's been broke since at lest 308 and I've only seen it up a couple of times since.
It's not hard to fly there, just wondering for convince sake
Irik Mar 10th 2009 11:33AM
The portal is only up when we control Wintergrasp is it not? I've never had an issue finding it when we are in control.
Hoggersbud Mar 10th 2009 11:46AM
Well lucky you, but I've been intent on going to Wintergrasp and many a time I've found that it's simply not there.
