WoW Moviewatch: Forrest GumpDK

I didn't originally think I'd feature Forrest GumpDK. Mojorising created the video to help celebrate the four year anniversary of his guild, The Enigma Order. While I like seeing these videos, it's usually not the kind of thing that appeals to an audience-at-large. After watching it through, however, the warm-hearted nostalgia grew on me. I actually found "Forrest GumpDK" to not only be a "happy anniversary!" card, but also a fond retrospective of raiding since Vanilla WoW.
The video is based off a certain Robert Zemeckis film from the mid-90s. At the end of GumpDK, the main actor is credited as "Tom Tanks." Hey, it's the little jokes that make things work. Basically, the movie starts off following a feather as it drifts down to a tuxedo-wearing Death Knight, sitting on a bench in Stormwind. The DK then begins telling the tale (in subtitles) of how The Enigma Order has been raiding over the past years.
While Forrest GumpDK is talking about his Guild, I think we all remember the days of fighting that big guy who's made of fire, then a dragon, then another dragon. And then, shooting off into "space!" That sense of wonder might have worn thin for some of us veterans, but Mojorising's Forrest gave me a gentle, rosy-glass view of the old times. For that, I thank Forrest GumpDK for a job well done.

This is the first time I've seen a DK as the main character in a video.

Strange that he had Vengeance proc'd when he was fighting Hogger, and as far as I know, only Paladins have Vengeance.

That was Bloody Vengeance that Proc'd, its in the DK Blood tree mate. Blizz just didn't bother to give it a different animation to that of the Paladin's

Amusing... My favorite part is when he's running from Hogger.
He should probably have gotten a proofreader for all that text though.

/agree lol I was gonna comment on the same thing.
I think a vocal narration would have been better too, but it would have to sound just like the real Forrest. hehe
Otherwise, pretty cool vid. :)

This was a nice little movie. I raided in BWL back in the day, when I was 15. I never really got into the hardcore raiding in BC, but looking back on the time I have spent on WoW. I have enjoyed most of it.

I think the spelling was intentional to make it read as if it was actually Forrest Gump speaking it in that horrible Alabama drawl.

Somehow I would have liked another class, any other class, as Forest Gump. It seems kind of dumb that the story of a guild that has stood for 4 years is being told by a character that could only have existed for the past 5 months maximum.

Um, did you pay attention? Using a DK opened up the opportunity to make fun of that very thing, then being able to insert the quote, "Stupid is as stupid does." It was IRONIC that a DK was used as the main character for this anniversary. What is it with a lot of WoWInsider posters being so damn technical?

There's probably exactly 1 million other ways to work the "Stupid is as stupid does" quote into a video like that without using a DK as the main character.
It's just another noob who probably ditched his main for a DK after finding out that he could just faceroll all over his effing keyboard and still get top DPS/BG kills.

...and grats to you on a fine piece of parody...I was prepared for something else altogether, but this was truly using the old to tell something new.

i liked this video a lot. what a nice thing to do for a guild's birthday -- i hope more people do this sort of thing.
oh, and Doellman, i don't think "ironic" means what you think it does. i think the word you were looking for was more along the lines of "unexpected."
