I don't ever remember calling Dungeon 3 the Tier 3.5 set. In fact, there were 2 types of D3 armor that we always differentiated by calling one Dungeon 3 and the other Dungeon 3.5.
The differences were easy to spot:
Dungeon 3 always came from normal instances, and had very class specific set bonuses.
Dungeon 3.5 had some drops from normal instances, some from heroic, but the set bonuses were generic.

I remember dungeon sets being called that, dungeon set 1, 2, 3, 3.5 and then tier gear was separate, as it should be.
