Ghostcrawler on 3.1 healing team raid composition
Ghostcrawler has outlined the way in which healing teams will be chosen and organized for Ulduar in both 10 and 25-man raids, and it's very encouraging. In 10-man Ulduar, GC expects that we'll want to bring three healers, and claims that they "intend for you to be able to take any 3 healers." This means that even smaller guilds with only enough players to form a 10-man group will be able to work with the healers they have, rather than feeling the need to recruit specific classes.
In 25-man Ulduar, Ghostcrawler mentions that there will be "more pressure to have every player in the role that most emphasizes their strengths" and that we'll "want a mix of healers."
This sounds like a fairly flexible plan, allowing for groups to recruit different healing classes, and allow healers to spec into different roles, such as group healing vs. single target. It also suggests that Blizzard is not planning at this time to homogenize the healing classes any further, unlike the tanking classes.

We used to run with 3 healers until we got all content on farm, now it's just me (tree) and holy priest - and a ret pally or a enh shammy picking up the slack on certain fights (Sarth+drakes, 4Horseman).
Dropping a healer makes fights easier because things die faster so you don't need as long lasting power - it's only when you're learning a fight you really need more healing power as you don't know where healing is really needed and there's a lot of wasted casting (example: I used to go oom on Grobbulus until we figured out PW:Shield and a Lifebloom was more than enough to bring the infected back up).
I'm a bit nervous about Ulduar because I don't know how much regen I will need to stack - I tend to grab as much spellpower as I can (if I routinely end fights with mana I have too much regen and I tend to regem/reenchant for spellpower). I will need to regem for spirit - or mp5? - when 3.1 comes out, but I don't know how much spellpower I will have to drop. Am at 2k spellpower at the moment and with raid buffs etc I have about 900/350 regen... ;s

We never run with more than two healers either, we don't have more than three active main healers in the guild and it is never possible to get the other two on at the same time the same night so it's me (resto shaman) and a holy priest or a druid. We've been doing fine and have no trouble doing Naxx or Malygos on two healers. We tried to bring three for Malygos but one got DC:d just before the fight and didn't come back for a week, thats how we learnt that the fight is easily done with two healers. :D
If we're supposed to bring three healers for Uludar we're gonna have big troubles getting any groups together, I guess we'll just have to wait and see, perhaps we will do fine there as well, it's just gonna take us some more time.
