No vanilla WoW realms. Really.
This is a tired old argument, but Blizzard poster Vaneras wanted to drive another nail into the coffin by stating, simply, that Blizzard has no plans of launching classic or pre-TBC realms. Aside from being a very complex endeavor that undoes a lot of class balancing over the years, the game simply isn't designed for Level 60 content anymore. Still, there are some proponents of the idea, which has even gotten some enterprising folks to set up private (and illegal) servers just for vanilla WoW.It's a line Blizzard has drawn from way back when, yet suggestions or requests for classic realms continue to pop up on the forums. Let me tell you here and now... don't bother. Blizzard will eventually just lock your thread or delete it entirely simply because it's not in their best interests to provide such a service. First of all, so much development time has been invested in moving the game forward. Blizzard is also ramping up leveling time because they want players to focus on the endgame that they're developing right now. Besides, really, the game has never been more fun.

Vanilla WoW ftw.

People always forget the bad stuff.
I'm sure no non-healing priests, druids, pallies or shammas would want to go back. (Because you would be healing)
No Flying mounts.
No Dailies (farming was a bitch)
Rotations are lame (Chaining frostbolts! woo!)
Talent specs are lame.
No Arena
No Battlemasters
No Honor Points (its by rank).
Lagforge/Lagrimar
Vanilla wow really wasn't all that great looking back on it.

* Five minute blessings (with no Greater versions)
* Pallies/Druids/Shamans are ONLY allowed to heal in raids (cor: Warrior tanks only)
* No tier tokens; week after week of sharding double Felheart/Nemesis
* Horridly-itemized tier sets
* Not being able to get loot if your rez timer expires before the boss dies
* Not being able to get loot randomly because of bugged Master Loot
* Gates in BWL being bugged closed

I played an MS warrior preBC and raided with no problems. It sucked not having an itemized tier set but it was doable just fine.

vanilla wow ftl...people definitely like to gloss over all the bad stuff in their minds. the game changed...get over it. the good memories i had with vanilla wow had more to do with the people i used to run with than the hoops we jumped thru to play the game.

Bah. You can't go back. It's a fact of life.
Think of it this way: All you folks that think Vanilla WoW was "better" or "more fun" have to really put things in perspective.
Think of your significant other. When you first started hanging out, I bet you had great fun. And sometimes you look back on those days and wish things were still as adventurous and fun. But the truth is, even if you went back in time, the problem is you. Your brain knows what it knows. You can't suddenly forget everything you know and everything you learned and see things with new eyes again. And this applies to World of Warcraft just as well as anything else.
It's just the simple truth. You cannot relive the same thing and have it feel the same way it did the first time.
Nostalgia is what it is. You can't go back there. It won't be the same. Take what you have now, and enjoy it.

@leon
Definitely the exception - I know pre-bc I could count the number of dps warriors on one hand who had good dps (and even then they were still being blown away by the pure dps classes). I'm still having a hard time adjusting to the massive population of ret pallies (even in bc most pallies healed), or the lack of warriors willing to tank.
Goes to show how design affects gameplay - we still need tanks and healers for stuff.
Still a new one has showed up - we pretty much won't take anymore dk's unless they want to tank (we have enough dps dk's).

My problem with classic server, is eventually those people are gonna ask for more classic content or patches and bug fixes for classic wow. at that point your just gonna have to different games
Clbull Mar 13th 2009 8:40PM
I think things have definitely improved since Vanilla but TBC and WotLK have some disadvantages over Vanilla too.
Pyornthe Mar 13th 2009 11:08AM
But.. but... there are no Draenei in vanilla WoW. D:
bundee Mar 13th 2009 11:09AM
No big loss. :P
Pyornthe Mar 13th 2009 11:11AM
/sad
Amaxe Mar 13th 2009 11:16AM
There are no BELFs either so, win-win? ;-)
Eu Mar 13th 2009 11:09AM
"Besides, really, the game has never been more fun."
Really? With all classes being the same, all instances being tank-aoe-spank, with the first new multi-boss raid only on a patch, and with weekly class changes (read class nerfs/tweaks/bullshit)
No, the game has never been LESS fun. I would trade WOTLK or BC for vanilla any day of the week. So would many others who simply can't stand this anymore, can't feel the game like before, and just quit.
bravejoe Mar 13th 2009 11:16AM
Agreed. I don't know if it is just because we are "early" in an expansion but the challenge and the entertainment value of this WotLK has really failed.
I have 2 toons, 1 in the best gear possible for my spec, the other in some of the best gear possible for my spec. The fact that my alt can walk into a pug with no vent and clear 25 naxx in 2 hours really says something about the content.
Drahliana Mar 13th 2009 11:49AM
Maybe this game isn't as fun for some if more than 5 percent can see the top-ranked content. That was a major problem with the old game.
Actually for me the best improvement has been the world quests. they do an excellent job of getting you involved in the various meta arcs and Neither Classic nor BC came close to how well Wrath has done it.
Alchemistmerlin Mar 13th 2009 11:51AM
So quit. Bye bye, don't let the front door hit you in the backside.
Can I have your stuff?
PhoenixStorm Mar 13th 2009 12:55PM
Why would you continue to pay money for something that you don't enjoy anymore? Weird.
Sharkhunt Mar 13th 2009 2:32PM
The instances in vanilla were largely tank and spank with very few interesting variations like DM Tribute. Complain about current AoE spam if you want, but you could try running heroics without stacking AoE classes if this is seriously a drag on you right now.
You sound bored of WoW, not bored of WOTLK. Go play something else.
bundee Mar 13th 2009 11:09AM
No doubt this would be a lot of fun, but it doesn't move expansion pack units.
