"Why does new content have to negate previous content? "It doesn't if you don't want it to. I started my guild because I, too, missed the 40-man Classic content. I watched my daughter's guild line up for yet another go at Magmadarr and wondered how in the world you got 40 people to 1) show up and 2) work even barely together. Trying to get 15-20 people to burn down Sulfuron's adds while keeping them from healing him was a chore at level 70. None of us, other than my Raid Leader had been in the instance. We don't know the fights. You may be in BC heroic/T4 gear, but if you don't know to "MOVE", Onyxia yells, "Learn your place, mortal!" and you watch the fight from your corpse. I read these vanilla WOW requests with a bemusement. To me, it shows 1) there is an undercurrent of dissatisfaction with Wrath. Nary a week goes by when there is a "So long and thanks for all the fish" post by some hardcore raider to the forum. They are burned out and the game isn't fun anymore. I have no ideas on how to "fix" this. I suspect Uldar will help a little but it's not going to lure back most of those people. 2) The is a market, small but growing, for old content. I agree with Blizzard that maintaining Classic-only servers is not in their best marketing interests. But, if guilds like mine are any indication, there is a desire to see the old stuff. Call it nostalgia, call it insanity, whatever, there is a growing population that levels through classic and BC and wonders just what that mountain is that's south of Thorium Point. I get a membership inquiry roughly once a week. We have been in every Classic and BC instance and have just started into Naxx. We were there before it was moved so it's a thrill to walk in again and see things as we remembered them and encounter the same problems we had before. I don't think the desire to push through to 80 in any way limits what you go back and see. Does it make content easier? Oh yeah, but it still took us a grand total of 10 wipes to get the Firemaw fight down. We are working through AQ40 now and trying to get our timing down on the Emperors. At 80, you cannot blast through any boss fight if you don't know it. Maybe you could try posting to your realm forum that you're looking to do old content. Perhaps there are others who are interested but you aren't on at the same time. Good luck. We are having the time of our lives across three different games and seeing things we've always wanted to see.
