The Queue: Eight
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today. In yesterday's edition of The Queue, my partner in crime Adam Holisky did some speculation about Battlestar Galactica that was taken as a huge, massive spoiler. As far as I know, it wasn't actually a spoiler. I'm here to fix that. I'm here to give you a real, true spoiler. Are you ready for it?
They shoot Old Yeller.
hold up asked...
Is the Realm First Ulduar Achievement based on completing Ulduar on Easy Mode or is it based on clearing the entire place including the optional Algalon "the Raid Destroyer"?
Valnoth, WoW's Lead World Designer, posted in a thread that asked this very question. He says that the realm first achievements/titles will come from beating Yogg-Saron on Hard Mode and beating Algalon the Raid Destroyer. Both the 10 and 25 man versions of the raid have these achievements, they are not linked to eachother.
Helore asked...
Has there been any news on the new dances they promised us?
I think I've answered this question about seventeen thousand times since we've started The Queue and I think it gets asked on every single edition of the column, without fail. The answer is still no, and it will be probably be no tomorrow and the day after that. We haven't heard anything except that they are still working on it. When we know more, you will know about it. Trust me.
Chickamauga asked...
Dual-spec question that I haven't seen asked yet, and if it was, sorry: When I buy my second talent tree, are the Glyphs empty, or pre-loaded with what I already have? Will my Shadow Priest have to buy another Glyph of Levitate?
Yes, your second set of Glyphs starts out empty. You'll need a second Glyph of Levitate, or any other glyphs that you want to use in both specs.
hempnight asked...
How many people do you think got the Purity Ring reference?
Beats me, I know I didn't get it!
CallMeIrd asked...
Does having one or two non combat pets out during a raid really affect a person's FPS? Is it generally that much of a nuisance? I get not allowing every single person to have one out, but when it's just a couple?
Depending on the pet, it actually can have a pretty big impact, mostly on those that are pushing the limits of their computer with Wrath of the Lich King already. The biggest culprit I've noticed is the Ghostly Skull, with its big blue cloud particle effect. That cloud can absolutely tank your FPS if it's directly in front of your camera. Before I purchased my new video card, I had to scroll my camera all the way out when I was around one of those so it wouldn't cross directly in front of me. If I got a super close up look of that thing, I would drop to a total of one or two FPS total. That's pretty harsh.
That's sort of an extreme case, but still. If you have people in your raid who're squeezing every last drop out of their system, having vanity pets out can have a noticeable effect. A bunch of people in your raid pulling out flashy pets can be the difference between 10 FPS in a raid and 2 FPS in a raid. If you have a great system and you don't find yourself often dipping below 40 or 50 FPS (or more), you won't even notice a difference when everyone has sparkly pets out. Those few people with the old equipment? They'll notice.

They shoot Old Yeller.
And then sell him to a Thailand burger joint.
elvendude Mar 13th 2009 3:12PM
Tender!
Wild Dwarf Mar 13th 2009 3:19PM
Shooting Old Yellar always made me sad. But then the puppy comes and I go "aww look at the puppy!"
Amaxe Mar 13th 2009 5:11PM
Aargh! I'll never forgive you for that spoiler!!!!!!!!
;-)
Braundo Mar 13th 2009 7:30PM
Aeris dies?
Vendrill Mar 13th 2009 7:49PM
Instead of shooting Old Yeller, shoot Holisky instead.
Alex, PLEASE don't let him anywhere near this column again!
Adam Holisky Mar 13th 2009 7:54PM
Asking for writers to be shot is a good way to get yourself banned.
Kakistocracy Mar 14th 2009 3:07AM
It's worth noting that he asked for them to shoot you in a movie filmed around fifty years ago, would, to put it lightly, would be a neat trick, and in the event that you are, indeed, shoot fifty years ago, I'll purchase and consider consuming some sort of head covering, maybe a balaclava, short of that, I might settle for some baklava.
Kakistocracy Mar 14th 2009 3:16AM
and that's why I shouldn't type while half asleep.
the first "would" should be "which"
and "shoot" should be "shot".
and below is a question a question,
namely,
Is there any recent information regarding the new dances?
please consider that that is, in fact, not a question that has been asked before on the grounds that its scope is distinctly different than any of its so called predecessors, because just as my question in no way takes into consideration new released after my question was asked, so the questions before did not cover the space of time between one and another in so far as their respective points of origin may be thought to be. And while it is true that I may have not specified the time frame covered, it is certainly more true that in our culturally defined perceptions of the functions of time, it was more than implicit within the question that events to follow have no bearing, whereas events leading up to, however close, must.

Okay, I heard some time ago that the Season 2 Vendors were removed by and oversight, and were going back in. Months later, still no seasons 2 vendors- that I can find, anyway.
Do you know when/if these are going back in? I'd love to buy some of that stuff, just for the looks now and again, particularly for my shadowpriest.
Izraphyl Mar 13th 2009 3:09PM
Are they bringing back the alternate cat form glyphs for druids?
rosencratz Mar 13th 2009 3:41PM
This is asked as frequently as the dance studio questions.
no! They've said they're working something different to change druid forms and no one knows how or when it will be implemented at this moment.
Balius Mar 13th 2009 3:48PM
Eventually Blizzard is just going to provide people with a link to a model-creation program and a tutorial on how to "hack" Blizzard's in-game models as a way of admitting defeat.
Elmo Mar 13th 2009 5:29PM
Here's a question.
In 3.1 you can queue up for a BG anywhere in the world right?
Where do you end up when the match ends?
the nearest city?, a FP in the zone you left?, the original BG portal?, at your HS?
gundamxzero Mar 13th 2009 5:33PM
@Elmo
The exact spot you were before you entered the BG. It was in one of the patchnotes on mmo-champ
This is also how they do it in warhammer online.
jbodar Mar 13th 2009 8:03PM
This could cause some "interesting" run-ins on a PVP server...
Anaughtybear Mar 13th 2009 9:59PM
I think the druid forms are the same type of scenario that happened when they announced WotLK. They tell us they are "working diligently" on new material, but really all they have done is a sketch on a cocktail napkin.
nyc Mar 13th 2009 3:28PM
You really did ruin Battlestar Galactica for me, thanks alot.
Nikkodemus Mar 13th 2009 3:49PM
I hope you are joking, because that so-called spoiler is not even remotely near true. It is wishful thinking of internet junkies who cling to an idea that everything will make sense because it is pre-planned.
Sorry to break it to them, but if you go listen to the BSG writer podcasts, a lot of this stuff is just pulled out of their butts to fix continuity problems they inadvertantly created due to making stuff up as the go along.
Amaxe Mar 13th 2009 5:21PM
Yes I remember the same thing with X-Files when people were watching episodes frame by frame for clues, when the writers had no idea what the ultimate end was.
The real spoiler: Starbuck is a man, played by Dirk Benedict and his fate was he crashed on a planet, where he befriended a Cylon he rebuilt and protected a pregnant woman whose child would be a Child Genius Doctor Zee ;-)
[Amaxe thinks Starbuck as a woman is blasphemous :P]
