When socketing for a meta gem, keep in mind that blended gems count as both of their colors.
If my Meta gem requires, for example, 2 red, 2 yellow, and 2 blue, but I have three slots, I can use one purple gem (which counts as BOTH a blue and a red), one green gem (which counts as BOTH a blue and a yellow) and one orange gem (which counts as BOTH one red and one yellow). Prismatic gems count as all three primary colors.
It may be worth your while to lose a few attack power or whatever to activate the metagem with a blended gem, if the reason you're looking for more gem slots is that you've already filled your others and want the slot bonuses.
