Blizzard announces Creative Writing Contest
Here's some awesome news for all Lore Nerds and aspiring Lore Nerds out there: Blizzard is holding a creative writing contest. You are invited to write 3,000-10,000 words in English about the world of Diablo, Warcraft, or Starcraft. If you've always felt your character's RP story could give Rhonin a run for his money, here's your chance. The contest is global too, so almost anyone can enter, with a few exceptions. Check the official rules for complete details.
And yes, there are prizes, too. The grand prize winner will get a trip to Blizzard Headquarters to meet the Blizzard writing staff and a Frostmourne sword, while 7 runners up will get a signed collection of various Blizzard novels. The deadline is April 12th, so you'll probably want to pick up that pen as soon as possible. Good luck and happy writing to everyone planning to enter!

"the legal age of majority in your country"
Hm, how do you define that age? In my country, you need to be 18 to vote and drive a car. I guess that's the age then?
The Avatar of Blue Mar 14th 2009 2:26PM
That would be the age you can legally sign binding contracts without parental consent.

Hmmm...
Is it a "Creative Writing Contest" or a "Creative Writing Contest"?
That is to say...
is it a "(Creative Writing) Contest" or a "Creative (Writing Contest)"?
I assume it is the first one, a contest revolving around creative writing, but I'd like to see a creative contest revolving around writing.

Not even the Caribbean. :( More 'booooooo!'
There goes my shot.

I wouldn't call a contest for 21 countries 'global with few exceptions' :/ Not even half of Europe is allowed to enter...
Gnimsh Mar 14th 2009 4:40PM
... no Blizz contests make it to Poland.. damn.. and I so much wanted to write something and shake Chris's hand.
Keyra Mar 14th 2009 6:56PM
Hmm. I may just have to see about entering this. I have a storyline already worked up, I just need to flesh it out a bit. Okay, so it's not a monetary award, but it's still something that I can use to "pad my résumé" so-to-speak once I get my degree in computer animation and start looking for work at a gaming or film production company, right?
Right?
[/crickets]
Come on, guys...right???

Okay, so I guess I'll just have to start busting some heads with that Frostmourne replica after I win it. (Yes, I'm thinking big!)
Seriously, though, it should at the VERY least be fun, if not outright productive in creating a better-thought-out scenario for the machinima project I'm working on.
I have to agree with some of the above comments, though. Okay, so we have several countries - I guess this TECHNICALLY classifies as "global", but if we're going to be TRULY global, then there shouldn't be any restrictions insofar as countries of origin (excepting those that would otherwise deny one's entrance into such contests through some weird and obscure governmental decree). But, come on! Surely Blizzard has enough gross capital to forgo exchange rates and export laws...and if a Frostmourne replica is banned or otherwise prohibited from said country (or state...hello, Massachusetts), then a suitable replacement, perhaps in the form of a monetary reward or whatever, could surely be found.
Ah, well. Still, it should be fun for those of us who CAN enter, and now it's time to put on my thinking cap. Damn, who let these moths in my closet???

Thats bs from blizz.
I'm from Brazil and i wanted to get in, who assures i would not be the winner?
I hate these things from blizz.

:/ no South America support, way to go

I hate how Québec is ALWAYS excluded from contests. I would have LOVED to participate in this, being a major lore-nerd and all. It's unfortunate.
Deadly. Off. Topic. Mar 16th 2009 10:26AM
It's because Quebec thinks it's its own country and has has it's own rules towards contests like this. As such those rules suck.
Fauche Mar 16th 2009 5:02PM
I knoooooow! Damn Lottery rules. It pisses me off so much some times! ._____.
elstor Mar 15th 2009 8:04PM
Would all things in it have to be my own and Blizzards materials? As a random example I came up with off the top of my head, would mentioning Ventrilo in it make it ineligible for the competition?
Amelyra Mar 17th 2009 7:22PM
Well, this is a creative writing contest, and deals with the in-character details of the game universes. Not so much a story of the players who run characters through said universes. As such, I'm pretty sure that a story in the Warcraft/Starcraft/Diablo universes won't actually have Ventrilo. A story that goes along the lines of "So this one time when my guild was running Naxx..." will be excluded.
That said. I checked the eligibility, and my part of Australia is good to go. I *am* going to win this contest. No ifs, buts, or maybes... I am going to win it. You'll see, all of you...
Deadly. Off. Topic. Mar 16th 2009 10:46AM
I'm thinking about entering, but we'll see. I have something I wrote about a year ago, but I may just want to throw caution to the wind and start with something new.
evankimori Mar 16th 2009 1:05PM
Again with the exclusions Blizzard. It's bad enough Caribbean/South American credit cards don't work for your WOTLK upgrade as is. Ugh.
The biggest workaround here is probably to link with an American/Canadian friend and have them submit under your name. Sure, they'll be the one in the limelight if they win but hey: if the reward is that important to you...

Blizzard posted that the Creative Writing Contest results would be released on 5/22/09. That was 8 days ago. Anyone have any real news?
