New mounts for Horde, Fishers in 3.1

Some Horde are still not satisfied, saying that at least one of those mounts should be Epic to truly equalize numbers, but for now, there's at least more easy mounts to get toward the Red Dragonhawk (Which is honestly a lot cooler looking than the silly blue one Alliance get, seriously).
Rumors have also been persisting over the past few days that the Horde will finally be getting an Un'goro Ravasaur as a counterpart to the Winterspring Frostsaber for Alliance. This has been compounded by the discovery of a Venomhide Ravasaur mount and a Ravasaur related quest in the 3.1 PTR files. However, Mor'vek himself seems to be unaccessible, and Zarhym has recently gone on record as saying there will not be a Ravasaur Mount in 3.1. It seems, though, that they're at least working toward the idea. Maybe we'll see one in 3.2.
Here's one more bonus to accompany that whole mounts can swim thing in 3.1: An actual swimming mount. In 3.1, Fishers will be able to fish up a new mount from Northrend fishing schools. As to the identity of the mount, a Coralsheel Turtle mount has been spotted in the 3.1 PTR files, and Zarhym has confirmed that it's the real deal. Between this and the aforementioned fishing dailies, it is a very nice time to be a fisher in 3.1.
If nothing else, between this and the tournament, it looks like we'll be seeing a few more Dragonhawks flying around. Good luck, mount collectors!

I would really like to see the whole Ravasaur mount be added to Un'goro, that would be a good excuse to go back to one of my favorite zones! :)

i am so gonna farm for that turtle mount.
vazhkatsi Mar 14th 2009 8:08PM
mor'vek doesn't exist in game, and he hasn't existed since pre vanilla beta. so we don't know if he's hostile
scilk Mar 15th 2009 5:34AM
So am I! I love it!
Does anyone know if mounts can be mounted while underwater yet? I know you don't dismount anymore, but I was wondering if there was still that restriction or not.
If not does anyone know if this one be able to be (considering it has a fast swim speed)?

BTW, this isn't an equivalent to the Winterspring mount: Alliance get the raptor too :-/

Mor'vek is hostile to Alliance.

I wonder how common it will be? I remember when they first announced the weather beaten journal that you fished up to track fish schools, I was prepared for some loooong fishing sessions. Took me 5 minutes to fish that up. I hope this mount is a bit more rare, though not as rare as that damn rat I'm still trying to fish up.....
Lemons Mar 14th 2009 4:41PM
A mount you get from fishing? I think it's gunna be hella hard to get, much harder than a sewer rat.
As a general rule if something isn't particularly difficult (i.e. sitting around and fishing) then it's going to be insanely time consuming to make up for that fact.
That mount is probably going to mean "Hey! I fished for 13 consecutive days and almost ODed on Red Bull, but I got it!" I hope they introduce a northrend version of the STV fishing contest with that mount as a reward, that would be much more fitting.
Jamesisgreat Mar 14th 2009 4:54PM
Aggh no! Don't get me started on the STV - as a former Brit that now lives in the US (and still plays on a EU server) I would have to get up at 5 am to enter the STV. A little to much like real life fishing for me!
Balius Mar 14th 2009 6:24PM
It's supposedly coming from the fishing dailies, rarely, and I wouldn't expect a drop rate higher than the crocolisk pets (which come from a daily I've done every day it's been available and still haven't gotten any of the four).

3.1 is here on a Saturday?
Ace Mar 14th 2009 4:48PM
Much more fitting how? Having an event that takes place once a week at the same time means those of us that are at work during that time, never get to participate. I'd rather have it take a bazillion casts than never have a chance at all.
Lemons Mar 14th 2009 4:55PM
If u were really teh hardcorez u'd skip work :P
Amaxe Mar 14th 2009 11:22PM
If he skipped work, he couldn't pay for WoW...

Coolio, turtles for the win. Say how hard are the mount achievements would you say? I have no idea, recently got the idea in my head that it could be fun. I've always been a fan of completion, with the thought of all the mounts that exist in this game I fancy the idea of having every single one. Not that it's possible and at any rate RNG limits the possibility further. But 100 is a nice goal. Like I said I like completion/collecting but I've always been too lazy to go to great lengths to do so.
However I finally have more energy in my life and I play casually, so it's a good time for this. That said there's so much to complete in WoW, and collect, a obsessive person like me wants to complete everything fully, so how do I choose which things to do and in what priority? Usually I get so frustrated from the thought of everything that I haven't completed, and in turn end up doing none of the things. Anyway I find mounts as a nice thing to collect, so why not start with that.
This leads me to my question, should I go for it? How difficult, how time consuming, how costly will it actually be? I have 8 mounts only, but I haven't given collecting a thought until now, and I have roughly 4000g and no problems earning more easily. 1000g needs to go for Dual spec though.
Any need-to-knows, tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. ^^

You're going to need a lot of patience and a lot of gold. I know you said the latter wouldn't be a problem, but it's going to be even more cash than you think, most likely.
I'm halfheartedly working toward this myself, but here's the deal: You're going to need to grind every base faction, Alliance or Horde, that you can get to Exalted, except your own (but you'll probably hit it along the way). Then you'll have to have enough gold to buy all the mounts, slow and swift, and that's just for ground mounts. You'll need to find people willing to grind ZG with you if you can't solo it, and run Stratholme over and over. You'll need to wait in hours-long AV queues so you can get enough tokens for both all the PVP mounts (30 for each one = 150) and your AV faction mount (50). Not to mention grinding the other battlegrounds.
And that's just vanilla.
You'll need to grind rep like a madman in outlands. Netherwing, Cenarion Expedition, Shatari Skyguard, Mag'har/Kurenai. You may also need to pay off a friend of the opposite faction to sit in Halaa for you for hours while you bomb the crap out of them. (This is what Death Knights are for, am I right?) And flying mounts cost a lot of cash. The Netherwing drakes run about 200g apiece, but the Cenarion hippogryff is 1600 (iirc, I haven't gotten this one yet). Then there's the drops from Kael'thas -- good luck with those, though you could probably find other people willing to run them with you since they're popular. And make sure you buy all the regular flying mounts from your faction vendor.
Northrend is a bit kinder than Outlands, but the deadline on a couple of mounts is ticking. If you want the Black or Plagued Proto-Drake, you'd better get on the achievements for them fast. A lot of the others are luck -- Time-Lost Proto Drake, Green Proto-drake, etc. And others are grinding. Run H-COT-Strat a thousand times, H-UP a thousand times ... oh, and wear your Wyrmrest tabard while you're at it, so you can buy the red drake. And make sure to buy mounts from the vendor in Dalaran, and save your stone keeper's shards for a black mammoth.
Then there's all the holiday mounts...
If you're a Paladin or a Warlock, you'll have a bit of a bonus, since their class mounts count toward the total.
I'm only up to 41 myself, but like I said, I'm just doing this halfheartedly. I've gotten all the Horde faction mounts and a few Netherwing drakes, a couple PVP mounts, and a couple miscellaneous drops. It just takes patience, mostly.
Amaxe Mar 14th 2009 11:35PM
Some things that help to get the mounts you need:
Exalted in all your faction cities
Exalted with the Netherwing
Exalted with the Kurenai
Exalted with Shatari
300 Riding Skill (to buy all the mounts)
Buy *all* their mounts, including the slow ones.
Buy all the flying mounts from Shadowmoon Valley (including the slow ones
Buy the vendor mounts in Dalaran
BG tokens
After this it is effort vs desired award
These can get you some more mounts
Exalted with Cenarion Expedition
Exalted with Hodir
Exalted with Wyrmrest Accord
Mount Achievements (slaughter the other factions leaders, etc)
This will get you a good part of the way
After that a lot of it is the rare stuff. It requires grinding instances, raids and some quests.I was very surprised to get the white bear mount as fast as I did.
I haven't hit Netherwing, CE, Wyrmrest exalted yet and can't afford the multi-passenger mammoths from Dalaran and Hodir. Nor have I bothered with Frostsaber rep.
There's a lot of work in it of course. Most of my exalteds came from BC in the QD 70 phase when I was bored. I'm revered in CE and Neutral with Netherwing so those mounts are not too likely.

Dez, the 100 mount achievment is one of the truly hardcore ones, and will require huge amounts of time, gold, patience and RNG luck. The 50 mount achievment on the other hand is much more possible, and rewards and albino drake, cooler imo than the dragonhawk. Others have explained some of the various methods, but I'll narrow it down for the 50 mount one (and you really should aim for this first just to make it more achievable).
First, grind to exalted with all of your factions. If you're a dranei or belf, congratulations, your job just got easier. If not, these 2 factions are harder to get exalted, but not impossible. There are some decent posts on wowinsider explaining how. Basically you'll want to do *all* low lvl starting area q's for *all* factions, as these give loads of rep. Then move up in areas, most lvl1-30 q's will reward rep, and some afterwards. Start stacking up on runecloth for the ones you just can't seem to get. Now buy all of the faction mounts, slow and fast, and in all colours.
Next start grinding outland rep. The two quickest are mag'har/kurenai (horde/alliance) and netherwing. The dailies from netherwing should give you some much needed gold to buy mounts, while the lower lvl ogre mobs you grind for kurenai rep also drop runecloth if you haven't got all faction reps exalted yet. Again, buy all mounts from these guys, and also pick up all flying ones from SMV, slow and fast.
If you're allie, congrats, you should now be at 50 mounts! If you're horde, you might be short 1 or 2 (changing in 3.1). For these either pick up some of the northrend ones if you have the money, or grind some BG tokens to pick up a pvp mount. Now head to your nearest mailbox and marvel at how the managed to fit an entire albino drake in there.
This can be done in 1-2 weeks, depending on how fast you manage the netherwing grind. The 100 mount achievment really is a lot harder and a lot more expensive, so if you really want to, start planning how, and good luck.

The statement about running H CoT a lot is somewhat misleading... just get a good group to run it 5 days in a row.
Ling Mar 14th 2009 5:12PM
Remember, they're also lowering the cast time for fishing :)
Once 3.1 hits, this is going to be one of my primary goals.
