New mounts for Horde, Fishers in 3.1

Some Horde are still not satisfied, saying that at least one of those mounts should be Epic to truly equalize numbers, but for now, there's at least more easy mounts to get toward the Red Dragonhawk (Which is honestly a lot cooler looking than the silly blue one Alliance get, seriously).
Rumors have also been persisting over the past few days that the Horde will finally be getting an Un'goro Ravasaur as a counterpart to the Winterspring Frostsaber for Alliance. This has been compounded by the discovery of a Venomhide Ravasaur mount and a Ravasaur related quest in the 3.1 PTR files. However, Mor'vek himself seems to be unaccessible, and Zarhym has recently gone on record as saying there will not be a Ravasaur Mount in 3.1. It seems, though, that they're at least working toward the idea. Maybe we'll see one in 3.2.
Here's one more bonus to accompany that whole mounts can swim thing in 3.1: An actual swimming mount. In 3.1, Fishers will be able to fish up a new mount from Northrend fishing schools. As to the identity of the mount, a Coralsheel Turtle mount has been spotted in the 3.1 PTR files, and Zarhym has confirmed that it's the real deal. Between this and the aforementioned fishing dailies, it is a very nice time to be a fisher in 3.1.
If nothing else, between this and the tournament, it looks like we'll be seeing a few more Dragonhawks flying around. Good luck, mount collectors!

There is nothing "silly" about the blue dragonhawk mount, It's every bit as good looking as the red one, maybe more since the red one looks like all the ones flying around in the Blood Elf starting area.

Opinions. Everyone has them. Including blog writers. Get used to it.
Prot Mar 14th 2009 5:45PM
They are adding a black wolf for Horde eh? Uh, don't we already have a black wolf that we can get from PvP tokens? I will be very upset if we get a wolf that I already have added to the game.
AyaJulia Mar 14th 2009 6:04PM
Egh.... Read the text on your PvP mount. It doesn't say Black Wolf. It says Black War Wolf.
Balius Mar 15th 2009 12:06AM
The new black wolf is a level 30 60% bonus mount. It's not armored, and it's not fast.

/shrug
I find the added mounts a little....lackluster. A different kodo is welcome though, on my druid I usually use travel form even if it is slower than mounted, just because those mounts are so godawful UGLY. (She has both and a macro for a 'surprise' as to which color she summons). Can the white kodo please actually be white? Like...albino? :D Not just a lighter gray then the gray in-game please. xP
idk, I like the idea of the ravasaur mount, though from that quest text..../shudder. Seems like it'll be a pain to get. More mindless grinding? No thanks, blizz.
Swimming mount only available for fishing? Doesn't seem fair, but it makes sense. Might give me some reason to level fishing beyond 126. Hehe.
Balius Mar 15th 2009 12:06AM
Why isn't it fair? EVERYONE can have fishing without any penalty.
Artemes - Onyxia Mar 15th 2009 1:00AM
True, but not everyone has the time to sit and level it. :P
Blizz has shown that they don't want to make secondary professions mandatory, and if aquatic mounts are going to be a big thing, I personally don't think they'd make it so only people who fish can get 'em.
Hoggersbud Mar 15th 2009 10:46AM
One aquatic mount available only through fishing doesn't mean all such mounts will only be available through fishing.

Fishing is one of the most easy-to-lvl professions in the game. Really.
Turn on your sound, figure out where you should be fishing at your lvl, buy a stack of the best lures you can get your hands on, and grab something to do in real life while you're fishing.
Read a book, hand-write some homework, knit if that's your thing, pull out another computer if you've got one and play solitaire or something, play some of your favorite music in the background but not too loud to hear the "Splash" of the lure.
I cast, put my mouse over the lure, and go back to what I was doing. Personally, I read while fishing, but that may not be your thing. When I hear the splash, I click. My mouse is already in the right spot. I look up, recast, and put my mouse over the new lure. Easy.
No running around looking for nodes except in a few cases. No trying to find expensive mats. Just sit, fish, and hope nobody from the opposite faction wants to kill you while you aren't paying attention!

As a budding mount collector, I certainly appreciate more mounts, although I wish they were adding more epic ones. All these new ones, I'm pretty much just gonna buy and never ride because I have the faster ones.
Balius Mar 15th 2009 12:04AM
The whole point of the three horde mounts was to even out the racial numbers some, to literally just add numbers. At least they're evening things out, which they hadn't done up till now.
Letting Horde get the faerie dragon is nice, too. It's always been more than a little annoying that there was no Horde equivalent...even though we have to grind for it from mobs used by lowbies for a quest.
Dekota Mar 14th 2009 8:24PM
Dammit I don't want another stupid Raptor mount! Instead of making a whole new quest line just make the Winterspring quest open to both Horde and Alliance so we can have kitties too!
Fyve & Boomstick Mar 15th 2009 2:23PM
That would just be wrong, on so many levels, especially lore. If you want to ride a cat, roll alliance!
Gemini Mar 22nd 2009 5:38AM
Or farm ZG.
Dekota Mar 14th 2009 8:31PM
P.S.
I'm glad that these mounts are low level. Not only use that make it easier for those working on the achievement, but It gives the low levels a new mount to choose from. If it were a swift mount, chances are it would be a mount that's almost impossible to get like most of the mounts that was released with Lich King. I'm really starting to get tired of flying mounts. I wouldn't mind something new to use in Org :P
Oxtoby Mar 15th 2009 10:30AM
I hope that the turtle mounts come free for warlocks.
We can do underwater breaths, you know.. Give tools to those worthy of them.
Juliah Mar 16th 2009 11:08AM
Daniel, I totally agree with you that the red dragonhawk mount is better looking than the blue one. In fact, it's the reason I'm not going for the mount achievement. I wanted a red one for my wee gnome fire mage, but there's no point in bothering now.
evankimori Mar 16th 2009 12:54PM
Mmm. Turtle mount.
Question is: can we eat it? :D
Seeing my excessive luck with the RNG as of late with catching Mr. Pinchy and the Sewer Rat - let's see if the RNG plays nicely with me one more round. Druid on a turtle!
