Level restrictions hotfixed into Wintergrasp

The Wintergrasp PvP zone now has two level restrictions in place:
- You must be level 70 or higher to count towards the tenacity tally, obtain the tenacity buff, and get credit for a victory or defeat.
- You must be level 50 or higher to be able to use the portal of Wintergrasp.
For the majority of us however, this change won't have any real effect. Interesting nonetheless. Don't forget that there are several upcoming changes to Wintergrasp in Patch 3.1; including a world wide timer and a new raid boss.

Honestly, it's a little weird to me that 50s can use the portal, but you have to be 70 to matter. Meh. I wasn't aware of a lowbie problem in the first place, but I suppose this was a needed change.

"...and get credit for a victory of defeat."
okay...

seriously? your nitpicking because he accidentally put an "of" instead of "or"?
Feldy Mar 16th 2009 5:45PM
Lol you have to be kidding me none of you have seen this happen.... lol I know of a rouge in particluar who has been in wintergrasp collecting badges since level 41. He has the legs trinket and helm as soon as he dinged 80. my dk is 77 but i have been collecting badges since about 68. you cant do a lot and you dont get the quests but you do get 3 badges if we win and the one if we still loose. lol

It's spelled LOSE
L O S E
WG should be level 70+ period.

I think there may be another reason for this that you are missing.
People have been taking alts on the opposite faction into Wintergrasp and then leaving them there AFK to count towards their opposition's Tenacity count and making it easier for their faction to gain or hold control of the Keep. This change means that you have to actually work to get an alt to 70 to cheat.
Makes things better I think.

While they're at it I wish they'd fix the bug where if you log out at a workshop just before the game ends while ranked up, and then relog once a new match has started, you'll keep your rank.
I've not done this myself but have read about it and seen the horde do it often enough - I've played plenty of 5AM matches where there's only 6 or 7 players each side, and the horde have siege engines within 2 or 3 minutes.
Allegedly it's a known issue but there's nothing that can be done about it at the moment.
Drocket Mar 16th 2009 7:13PM
I wasn't aware of that bug, but gaining the rank necessary for siege engines is quite easy when you're outnumbered. Once you're up to 10 ranks of tenacity, it seems to only require one kill to do - and that includes the NPC guards fighting in the zone. Even if that bug exists, its still EXTREMELY easy to get the rank necessary anyway.

Hmm, interesting. And about the cheating: THat seems a little silly. Unless you dual-box (and even then, it's a stretch), I doubt that one person on the other team will help the cause for losing much, if at all.
I guess low levels farming the marks and honor is bad though, yeah. Makes sense. The portal being level 50 still confuses me though.

I have seen lowbies in our WG, I guessed they was leaching....but how much did they buff tenacity I wonder, cos all I see now is a crapload of red and insta-death....

VICTOLY OF DEFEAT!!
Pyrolina Mar 18th 2009 9:42PM
Bach, this foils my idea of having my whole guild make lvl one allys and fill WG with us, therefore giving horde a major tenacity >:P
Sabotage FTW
Melody Mar 16th 2009 6:42PM
GOOD! I get tired of lowbies joining the group for the sole purpose of getting honor. Leacher suck!
Durango Mar 16th 2009 10:32PM
yes because we all know that lowbie's raid spot could of been replaced by some 80 who's not even in the zone.

I think you should also be level 70+ to even get into wintergrasp, I can't count the amount of times iv seen a random guildless lvl 55 hunter going around farming all the mines and herbs there using their pets as meat shields its ridiculous, bloody gold farmers :P

I once saw a level 19 twink in Wintergrasp.
That was fairly amusing.

I have a screen shot of a level 2 character in Wintergrasp who was on the raid team. He went through the portal with is in Dalaron and did his best to contribute to the raid. He had lots of tenacity and was safe as long as he was in a vehicle. Otherwise he died a lot. We think someone portaled him to Dalaron and he made level 2 by discovering areas in the city. His nick was Imabankalt. He was a well geared fighter so someone took their bank all there knowing what they were doing.
Also...thanks for the info about the fast getting of tanks in WG. I was wondering how they were doing that. Now I have a clue.

Muradin has a guild of level 6 and belows going in there and manning the vehicles. The following link is a thread protesting one of the "Mini's" from being forced to leave WG

I leave my lvl 65 herbalist/scribe in WG to gather herbs. She can avoid most of the mobs and outrun those she can't, but occasionally I end up gathering during a battle, and I'm always surprised to get the occasional achievement and mark while I'm at the southern edge picking a Frozen Herb. I think the changes are great...if you're high enough to gather without dying you can get in, but if you're too low to be useful you don't change tenacity or get credit for work you haven't done.

I used to bring my lowbie into wintergrasp when we were defending so i could sit in the cannons and gain level 80s ish honor on my 60. I certainly wouldn't consider it leeching as I'm hitting for massive amounts per hit, sometimes getting as much as 50k damage per 2 seconds if I'm in the right place at the right time. As those cannons are often doing the most damage in the entire of WG, level is completely irrelevant to contribution.
